I second that welcome - Liked the video - 2 other things I saw besides the interesting cowl, was the rudder and no numbers on the fuselage. I wish I had your landing strip, but I live in a town.EdMO

Give me a few days so see what the price will need to be. I have agreed to that price to Dimitri and will honor that one. And yes it will include all four parts. We rigged up today and got started on the build and completed half a set. I should be able to post a photo by tomorrow evening. I plan to sell these as low priced as possible, not really looking to make a business out of this just hoping others will take an interest in making other parts so we can support these planes through a community effort.

is that price including the 2 new arms and the 2 new linkage rods   Just making sure that all 4 components are thought of not just the 2 new "bell cranks"

    Leni, and Joey too,
Many THANKS for setting up the site where even an old dinosauer like me can put in 2 cents worth.
I have enjoyed the site and the members, and have gotten a lot more from it than I can possibly put in.
We have a considerate group here - lets hope it stays that way.

    Vance,

Welcome to the dark side!  I hope you find useful information here and have a good time here while learning about these great airplanes!

Joey runs the amsoil 100:1... I cant bring myself to do that due to some of the snowmachines I have seen that were running it.  If you run premix, normal oil, then you run 50:1 all the time.  With oil injection, its closer to 70:1 at idle, then it comes up to 50:1 at WOT.  For me, I like the oil injection, it takes the guess work out of mixing at the pump or at the remote areas I sometimes fill up at.

    Mark,

Thanks for the cudos.  This is the same forum software that was used on one of the snowmachine forums I hang out on so when I got booted off the Matronix site, I put this one up and used the same software I was used to using.  I am embarrassed to say that I have not spent the time I should on learning all I can do with the software, setting up the headers etc. but I spend too much time dealing with hackers and building / flying the planes   One day I will have time to finish the site the way I wanted to originally.

There is only one rule here that I try to enforce.. no direct attacks on other members, unless of course, they desperately deserve it.  If ya act like a jackass, be prepared to be called and treated like a jackass

The funny thing about the site with virtually no rules and full freedom... I have NEVER had to moderate a post or ban a member here.  The only post moderation EVER done here was to move a subject to a proper thread. other than that, no posts have been moderated or deleted.  I find that pretty significant as EVERY other kitfox or avid related forum, list or group I have been on had some heavy handed moderating going on

Glad you like the site, hope I can keep it up to your standards

    Good site.
Admins, Mods, all you rock stars who keep this site going:
I wanted to ask you where you came up with the format for this forum. I find it extremely easy to navigate, it has a great mobile version, and something about the blue and the fonts and the layout is just inviting.  Fun happy place.

I've used yahoo groups for a while, it sucked.  Then yahoo decided to change it and now it's worse.  Team kitfox is confusing as hell and always has been.  Google groups looks like something out of the 80s.  Some of the automotive ones are just plain scary.  Basically, they're NOT inviting.  For a newcomer, they say "go away, we're above you, you wouldn't understand, oh, btw you violated rule 5b of section II chapter 5.3 of our members agreement"   Oops, Joey, you might wanna move this over to the "hardcore" section.

Only things I noticed about this site are minor - Lots of categories, so they tend to overlap, the "rotax" one shows up in two places.

But overall, Bravo friends!  How did you do it??

Not to argue with you Joey, but here is what I've done.  I crank the engine a few revolutions without prime first of all, then prime and start it.  Here is why.  If the engine has sat for a while since it last ran, oily fuel will often fill the sparkplugs. (Pull the plugs some time and see) Those first few revolutions will hopefully blast that oily fuel out, so when I prime and go to start it, it is less likely to foul the plugs.  Jim Chuk

thank you all for the kinds words; I`m trying to get everyone in Sweden involve in some sort of activity, I only know one person here.... I will search for ULF in the EAA website.

hahahaahaha!!!  HOW can you see I`m using the pain in the @$$ mechanical cart brakes.....  those brakes are driving me crazy....but like I say before I haven´t done any of the upgrades you guys made, youtube is choosing random, that video is not my favorite video either.

I´ve spend the past 2 years working in the cowling and fixing the electrical problems, I broke 3 radiators within 30 min of operation, so I decided to work the whole thing from scratch, the original cowling was close to 10 kg in weight, many careless polyurethane reparation on it  from previous owner, now it weight around  3 Kg.

ignition, drove me almost mad, until John Miller point me on the right direction a drop of oil in a felt tip on the rider will keep the old 532 ignition point breakers working....worked like a charm... no more engine problems.

I`m with my cowling like you are with your landing gear, any time I see a picture of you, you have either different tires or different gear legs.

I was using a GSC 3 blade propeller, and turn out the engine doesn´t like it, despite is the same many other 532 engine, the lighter 2 blade prop works well; I even gain 8kt in cruise.

you have a little cushion pad for your left knee ......

    Regards

Starting an inverted engine requires some careful priming or you'll flood it. Not a big deal just takes a few tries to figure out the technique. I give mine one shot of the primer and then I crank it and hit with another shot and that works most times.

Here's how I ditched my mechanical brakes. Requires quite a few parts but they are out there.

Thanks to all that answered. Adding premix to the fuel is what I am fimiliar with. I have heard of failures but they are far and few between. I like the idea of an oil injector and see some benifits but since I'm running the engine inverted anyways the extra oil at start up is a bonus for me. The 503 is mounted very close to the fire wall to the point I was considering cutting the firewall and installing a bowl to give the fan adequate airflow into the cooling fan.

This plane has a hand actuated brake mounted on the floor at the pilots feet on the left side. It has differential handles for each brake which actuate drum style brakes. They don't work well. I have access to some Zenith 701 foot peddles with toe brake set up with hydraulic cylinders. What are you guys using for brakes on the main grear?

Joey you mentioned starting the inverted engines cold. What info do you have on this subject?

That's all for now. Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm also building a Zenith 701 with long wings. I just love building airplanes.

There's just something about the lines of an Avid/Kitfox that I really like...long before I ever even flew one I really liked them. After I flew one for a while I was totally in love. There's a reason my wife calls my Avid "The Diva (Avid backwards if you haven't had your coffee yet) A lot of times after landing a cool off airport strip I catch myself turning around looking at her as I'm walking away. Thank goodness were only about 3 weeks away from being reunited. I hope she understands why I had to leave her sit all summer and doesn't give me too much grief.

Dimi3 your video on Youtube is creeping up towards mine. I think your number 3 or 4 now on the list when you type in Avid Flyer. Two of mine are still the number one search results and they are crappy vids IMO...hahahaha. I watched your video last night and was curious if you could elaborate on your radiator/cowl set up a little bit. The front of your plane looks different than any other Avid I've seen which means you've been innovative and that always get's my attention. I noticed you still have the old crappy mechanical Go-kart brakes too. Here is a thread of how I totally transformed my plane but installing a set a Kitfox gear legs, Douglas ATV wheels, Matco Brakes, and custom Mike Schuetz brake pedals. By far the best mod I did so far!!

I would say to fly it a while using premix before worrying about retro fitting an oil injection pump.  It will be very expensive to retro fit with new parts.  Now, I did retro fit an oil injection pump on my 503 but felt comfortable deciding what snowmobile/used etc. parts I could use.  I suspect if you ask Rotax Rick to put an injection pump on while he has it he will try to talk you out of doing it.

I have never flown the Avid, but the owners on here say that the inverted engine give you better visibility over the nose than my Kitfox.
One of the flyers on here has about a Zillion hours (maybe a little less) on the 503, and he loves it.
    Welcome to the group.

I just sold some landing gear parts to "Snowpaw" Ulf in Sweden for his Kitfox - Maybe the two of you can get together someday.
Congratulations on your flights and your English.

Either C or F, much too cold for beer - I got a little more educated last night after you posted the temp, and I went and checked my dual thermometer - I knew that F temps above 0 went up faster than C temps - What I had not realized, was that C temps go down faster than F temps below 0 - and -28C is about the same as -20F - guess never too old to learn something -
Now, if I could just think in sillymeters instead of English!

well... you must not be talking about the fellers 'round these parts.. supportive, yep for the most part     Nicest about that!    But your right.  Bang for the buck, for what we normally do, its pretty tough to beat the Avid or KF.

Vance welcome to Avid Fox Flyers. Check your spam or junk mail folder for any emails from the forum. I had to manually verify you.

Here is a link to the Avid Builders manual and AD's from our Files and Forums section

    http://www.avidfoxflyers.com/index.php?/topic/1927-avid-builders-manual-and-ads/

The inverted engine has a few tricks you need to know when cold starting it but other than that there's no real difference with it being inverted.

Oil injection is an ongoing debate.  I choose to premix because I run 100:1 full synthetic oil and the injector doesn't allow for that option. Thousands of them out there flying with injection too.

Here's a thread on Flaperon Hanger repair http://www.avidfoxflyers.com/index.php?/topic/1061-broken-flaperon-pivot-point/?hl=%2Bflaperon+%2Brepair#entry6198

Don't be afraid to ask questions that's what this place is here for! Spend some time looking around and typing things into the search box. There's gobs of great Avid info buried here and there on the forum and if you can't find it I usually can.

    New Avid Owner Idaho
Hi group, thank you Joey for the invite. My father and I purchased a Avid Flyer A model last week from an estate sale. Its a good looking little plane with low hours. It needs some work because the last owner left the plane in an open hangar and did not fly it for 4 years. The rib ends where the ailerons attach have lost there varnish and are very weathered. The fuel system is shot and full of varnished fuel. It has a new 503 with less than 10 hours. The cowl tank looks rough and will need pulled, cleaned and inspected. The engine will be sent to Rotax Rick for a complete inspection and seal kit. The prop was covered but they left the hub area unprotected and ruined the prop. I have a new warp drive prop for it.

I would like to hear about any AD's I might need to look at while putting this planes back in service.

Did they make a bed mount for this plane? The engine is inverted which depending on who you talk to is met with good and bad stories. I'd like to hear anyone's experience with the inverted Rotax.

To oil inject or not? My instuctor swears by oil injection but cautions they need to be installed correctly.

Has anyone ran into issues with the rib end aileron mounts and how was it addressed.

I think I have asked enough questions for this post. Thank you in advance for any information you my provide.

    Thank you
