best excuse to the boss for missing work
I ran across this video while looking at some of the Doubliners vids on youtube.  They did a lot of great Irish folk songs/ ballads starting in the early sixties.  Song is from a time when most work was done by hand (and without OSHA in existence LOL)  If you move forward on the video  to 28:40, you should find the song.  It's about 3 minutes long and I thought well worth the time it took to hear it.  Here is the link (I hope)    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyBZl5qwQ_Q   enjoy,  Jim Chuk

Well I have the last 4 down pat   I hope to one day retire.  I don't mind flying wheelbarrows as long as I get to fly.

a band saw and sanding block would make them in short order.  Make a plywood template then cut them out and a quick final sanding and you should be good to go in an hour or so.

Starting to rebuild.Took apart the really bent flaperon. Is there a source for the styrofoam ribs and leading edge. Setting up a hot wire and cutting them with a template sounds like a lot of fooling around. Thanks.

use squeezed rivets.  The pop rivets would be sweet little scalp slicers when you least expect it.

I have obtained a Fat Avid top cowl section, a Fat Avid dash cap and a MKIV cowl bottom and am attempting to fit it all together as a two piece setup like the original MKIV, not as a boot cowl setup. Has anyone set their fat avid up like this? If so would you take a few pics and share? I seem to be having some fit issues with the dash cap, windscreen and cowl top.

Got some measurements back from the buyer today and it sounds like these are about 2-3" shorter top and bottom than a Kitfox 2. And yes Larry were talking about plexiglass doors those thingies that keep you from falling out when you do a wickedly awesome forward slip!

Okay.  Doors.  I thought we were talking Wings.  Or is that a British dialect or something?

One big difference is the bottom of the door.  On the 1, the bottom is about a foot or so long before it angles up in the back.  The later ones are flat on the bottom at least double of the Kitfox 1.   Nice picture of a Kitfox 1 that shows the door on ebay.  If you search ebay moters soon using Kitfox, the top add is the Kitfox 1, and the tenth add is a Kitfox 3.  Easy to see the difference in the doors in these two pictures.  The Kitfox 1 has an early cowl, what Kitfox used before the round cowl.  I think it looked way better than the later round cowl.  Jim Chuk

PS  Just reread my post, and what you actually asked, and in my earlier post, I meant to say kitfox doors...  I read your question as Kitfox 1 doors also.   Well my dad ended up with alzhimers, but it didn't show up till he was 85,  I'm only 63, but maybe it's showing up early...........

I was working on my plane today and noticed the wing spar to fuselage attach bolts stick down past the bottom profile of the wing.  These make an easy place to put my smart level to measure the incidence of the spars at the root end.  I put the level on them and it measured 0.2 degrees down.  I think it is no coincidence this is the same angle of incidence I measured on the bottom of the wing.

These measurements probably have some margin of error.  Probably a couple tenths of a degree.  It has me thinking the incidence of the wing may be zero.

    Bill,
I'm not an Avid expert - Know more about Kitfoxes - On all of the Avids / Foxes except the Avid Magnum, the fuselage butt ribs are just a modified wing rib - The Magnum uses a fiberglass undercambered butt rib.   The rib has to be cut away so that the rear spar can swing and fold.   On most I have seen, the space between this rib and the rear spar crosstube is closed in with the same fabric as on the plane.
Although some instructions say to rivet the windshield / skylight, some have decided that 8-32 bolts with a rubber or nylon washer under the head may cause less cracking - the bolt holes should be drilled oversize by 1/8" to allow for expansion / contraction of the Lexan.   IMO, it is better to make the WS and Skylight in two separate pieces - I also like a dark tinted skylight for the sun and heat here in Missouri summers.
I am sure that dHolly (Doug) (A+ shows in Red on his posts) has a copy of the instruction for most planes - and you might find it in some of the Avid or Kitfox manuals on here or in Files and Forms section.
I might be able to post  a page of the Kitfox manual on here if you cant find what you need.
        Hope this helps.

  24. Luked added a post in a topic Does a Kitfox wing fit on an Avid mk4 ???

    Hi Martin,

I am in the process of making changes to my MK IV to accept KF4 wings. From the information I have found, the wings are different as Jim mentioned, and the fuselage is also different. The spar carry throughs are 1" x .035" wall (larger on KF5/6). I don't remember the increase the strut carry through, but I could look that up.

Struts are also different, and attached at a different point.

Kitfoxes use a .065" wall thickness on their spars.  Avid Heavy Hauler used an .083" wall thickness.  Of course  the spar stiffeners used help to give the wing strength as well.  I would wonder if the extra gross weight for the Kitfox is due to differences in the fuselages.  Jim Chuk
