Saw your plane on the ramp here in Casper and wondered who's it was. Great adventure in a new plane. I agree, these are fine little planes.

Modern jet ski engines are amazing pieces of engineering, well worth a look.
Getting a gearbox to fit and work would be the biggest challenge.
Single ignition wouldn't be an issue, modern electrics appear to be very reliable?
The early 670 engines are currently being used with some success(I am in the process of having one machined for my kf3
I can't wait to get it running!
Someone(possibly this forum) is looking to fit a rotax 800? Engine,
Power to weight would have to be a winner.
I don't know about overhaul parts prices on some but the 670 is very cheap!

Wonderful catalog of your adventure!  Makes me a tad jealous.  Very picturesque flight through the Rockies.

Crossed the US in My Avid Flyer Mk IV
I bought a nice Avid Flyer Mk IV from Jim Peet of Valley Springs, CA, and worked with Joey to get it ready for the trip from CA to Connecticut. The Facebook album tells the story, here is an open link for all, you don't have to be a Facebook member to view it, they say. Let me know if it doesn't work for you.
You Avid pilots are really on to something, that airplane is a pure joy to fly!

Route of flight. O88, O02, 26U, KMAN, KBYI, U56. KBPI, KRKS, KCPR, KCDR, KBUB, KPMV, KICL, KEOK, KDNV, KMNN, KGQQ, 4G4, KSEG, KMMK
2516 Nautical Miles, 2895 statute miles, and about 40 flight hours.

I have a Mark IV, and added a tank in the baggage compartment. The concept would be the same in any model, just finding an acceptable place (behind the seats, to the sides, would work. I plumbed it into the main tank, to avoid contaminating the fuel lines with any bubbles. I transfered fuel after the main tank was down below half, so the normal vents cleaned up the transferred air. Here is the tank and pump:

I tapped into the main tank so the transfer fuel would just add to the main, and not contaminate the fuel system with bubbles. I used a 1/8" NPT to 1/4" hose barb fitting. I drilled a 3/8" hole in the tank, careful not to drop drill tailings into the tank. I used Permatext Epoxy Fuel Tank repair putty, wrapping the fitting threads with it, and screwing the fitting into the hole. It hardened solid and entirely leak-proof.

Speaking German fluently makes this video difficult as I hear the German text, and have to read completely unrelated English text.
Still extremely neat and funny like hell. The FAA doesn't let me fly because of anger management meds.... hahahahaha!

    Thanks for posting this.

    Rotax/Sea Doo
I was "looking" on e-bay this morning (thanks EdMo) and stumbled onto a, currently decently priced and nearby,  jet ski with a 110hp rotax 2 cyl 2 stroke engine.
I've not seen any mention here of anyone using/adapting them for airplane use. I seem to remember, a year or so ago, a forum that had content regarding a guy developing mount adapters for gear drives. Seems he was aiming at the gyro drivers.

Just thinkin'.   I welcome thoughts, ideas, input as well as criticism.

I would have been interested in seeing a picture of the opposite side of the piston as well.  Also, recently some of bings floats didn't float very well.  I imagine you are aware of that though.  Just a heads up if not.  Jim Chuk

Ive been out with the Airforce jet the past week and while I was gone my engine arrived from Rotax Rick. He sent back the Pistons and Rods so thought I'd post some pics. As I mentioned earlier the Mag piston was scuffed some on the intake side but it was far from the worst piston I've seen. Domes were pretty clean and very little under the rods. These parts had 352 hrs on them and were ran with mostly Chevron 92 Octane and Amsoil Saber Professional at 100:1.

Also tonight I rebuilt my carbs using a Bing rebuild kit, and put new rubber mounts on my motor mounts. Finally I opened up my box from Bob and checked out my new exhaust parts he hooked me up with. I think part of my leak problem was with my elbow. It's about 1/2 shorter than a stock Rotax elbow. Hoping this helps out with my alignment issue I've had since day one.

NEW MEMBERS - POST UP- JOIN THE CROWD
Out of more than 1100 members, there are only a handful that do any writing on here -
POST UP what you are flying - We love photos and stories -
We are a varied bunch - some flew with Moses - others are just out of diapers -
Some fly old fashioned taildraggers, and some use modern nose gear engineering -
Some have chainsaw engines, and others have car engines, or Lycosaurus or Contisaurus engines.
Some will kid you - But we are all very serious when it comes to helping others.
POST UP - and let us rest a little and get to know you - We don't bite - at least not too hard!
This is not a site like some others, where you get excommunicated for putting a whizbang on your plane that was not "factory authorized", or say "Your paint job is shitty, and you can't fly with us!"
The flyers and builders on here are "real", and we expect you to be the same!
So - POST UP - Get your 2 Cents worth on here!  Don't just be an outsider!
    Cheers,

WANTED - BRAKE RETURN SPRING LUSCOMB 8A
Looking for this small coil spring that goes on outside of wheel to return lever to neutral for cable brakes -
size of a nickel, about 3 turns of spring, with a 3" ear sticking out on each end, opposite directions.
Most have probably been thrown away or in someone's junk pile.
I put it here so I wouldn't cover up ads for Avid/Kitfox parts.
Luscomb Foundation no help.   Is there no way to post a WANTED ad on ebay?
Would there be another brand of 1940's plane that might have this spring with cable brakes?

    Joey,
If there is that part on my 532, I will take it off and send it to you if you want it.  It wont be new tho.
If so, can you post a photo of it and where it goes?
