Any special about the axes you are using? Look to be about 2" longer than stock?

Did the CG work out o.k. for you with the extra fin area?

One last task I need to accomplish on this bird is the prop spinner install (this is the large aluminum Kitfox spinner that comes with the 3 bade GSC prop).
Question is, other than cosmetic, does adding it effect performance at all for this configuration? If so, what changes would be often realized?
Would be great to hear from anyone who might have tried this with and without on a Kitfox (to include the cowl effects from the round cowl).

Great stuff. Thanks for the replies all.

Have any of you had a problem with the flaps retracting slowly during approach? Surprised at how much restoring force there is (aerodynamic to retract the flaps).
Have tightened the friction washer for the second time. Hopefully this will be it. But... anyone use detents or similar?

Such tragic news. Hope he has a fast and full recovery.

Fabulous feedback all. Thanks for posting.

Had my first snow landing yesterday. Having a difficult time gauging height above the ground at landing (which I heard is not uncommon). Luckily I had trees nearby on the side of the runway so used that as a guide. On an open lake, what do you do? Any words of wisdom in this regard?

Thanks for the suggestions Flyn ,the slides are all the way down and the cables are all seated properly and operate smoothly.
Just worth confirming... make sure the slide are bottomed against the individual idle adjustment screws (should "clunk" when you lower them as they make contact). Another item that can cause this would be an air leak in your pulse line (behaves similar to a bad crankcase seal).

I wish there was a course (other than a full A&P course curriculum) which allowed a sport pilot to inspect and sign off an annual on a bird that meets the requirement of LSA that is registered as EAB. Sure think it would make the buy and sell process much easier.

Hope you can make them work. Look great that way.

I am looking to obtain a nice set of ski's (roll through if able). I see Airdale used to offer a nice set, but sounds like they are no longer doing business?
Any other good vendor options out there? If not, anyone have a set of plans they would share?

By chance did you obtain the ski's Smitty had with that bird? If so, any idea how they worked?

Thanks for sharing. I hate thermal activity as well. I have made the Skew-T charts my friend, and that has helped a great deal (at least with knowing what to expect on a given day).

In case it hasnt yet been mentioned, doing initial work on grass might help a great deal.

What a great way to unwind after a deployment! Looks like fun.

Just some follow-up in this problem in case anyone is interested. The good news is that the vibration is now gone.
Upon further inspection I noticed that the left, aft, upper side engine mount bolt had been making intermittent contact with the upper Lord mount topper washer (the fender type washer on top of the mount). I relieved the washer and also installed a new set of plugs. Took it up this AM and all is well again.
Not sure which item fixed the problem (I suspect the bolt head/washer issue, maybe a combo of both), but... we are back in business now.

Great ideas! Thanks.

My wife would like to utilize a tailwheel dolly (for pushing the plane out of the hanger and pulling it in).
Are there any concerns with this on these planes (concern more during the push)?
I move it in and out using the grab handle, so the loads wouldn't be very high.
Any success or failures/concerns in this regard?

By chance is it a direct replacement for the Rotax (with regard to bolt mount patterns etc.)? Or did you need to fab a custom motor mount (due to HP or bolt pattern?
Best of luck getting her back in the air. That has to be an impressive amount of HP for that bird.

Running a high needle position, due to an errant high EGT indication (turned out to be a bad EGT instrument, verified by a air/fuel ratio sensor I installed and the new EGT instrument). Running around 1050 now at full power and 1125 at part throttle (and that is when its cold outside). Plugs look very rich as well. Will swap out with new ones and see what happens.

When setting up for a short field landing, and suggestions on techniques? Do deploying flaps help much? Slips a better alternative?
Tried a 50% flap landing tonight and I got down a bit faster however did float a bit more (though I may have been a bit fast given flap use).
Think a 1,000 strip with trees at both ends as a scenario.

Glad you were able to connect. And that's about as bright as it gets out there this time of year (2nd to last pic)?
