WingX is a beautiful program. It's very fast and user friendly and I think it blows foreflight out of the water overall. I fly with another pilot that has foreflight and hes amazed at the speed and simplicity as well as the functions wingX has. I just added the Geo Reference and it opens up a whole new world of awareness.

Joey are you using anything as far as studying for the written or have you finished that?

I'm about the same, about 10 hrs. under the hood with a safety pilot but no true IMC. I've been working through the king school IFR program and its a wealth of info. I'm hoping to get everything finished up this summer in my cherokee. The required 50 mile cross countrys make the time fly by.

Ok fellas I still need a pic or two showing how others have ran the gas line from the wing into the cabin. I've got the wings on for good now (hopefully) and running the line from the wing inside is one of the last things I need to do.

Here's a pic of the inside of the plane during construction. You can see the raised skylight and turtledeck

no, if I pull the front tight I dont fit in the plane. I'm 6'2 and I fit fine if I tie the back lower part of the seat back and keep the front back a couple inches but without holding the rear of the seat back I'm on the tubes.

I tried that and I end up sitting on the tubes even when the back of the seat is laced up as tight as it will go.

Glad you chimed in Paul, I better rethink this if it wasn't working well for you.

Ed this takes preheated air from the radiator, sends it around the exhaust and is used for carb and cabin heat.

Avid 912 Radiator scoop/shroud info needed
Anyone have one of these laying around for sale or have the dimensions so one can be made? I've contacted Ron Smith and he may have the mold to make one but a couple close up pics. would really help so he's not making the wrong part.

Thanks to Paul for one of the pics.

Wow, those are strong words. How many of these Avid setups with the oil tank mounted like this have you seen or heard of that have failed?

This is the first time I've heard of a failure as you describe and I know of at least a handfull of 912 Avids that are setup like this and some have several thousand hours on them with no problems.

Bryce, the tank is mounted under the baggage compartment.

If you have the baggage locker that was part of the wing tank why not just do some fiberglassing and make the locker portion able to hold gas?

The requirements for experimental record keeping cant get much clearer than this.     http://www.eaavideo.org/video.aspx?v=95716958001

  17. birddog486 added a post in a topic fuel vent line

Thanks for the replys, I thought about going this route and I may also but, A couple of the forced landings I've read about over the last couple years were due to this arrangement.

What I took from those reports was: if there is a valve on both wing tanks and they are hooked to there own connection at the header without a specific vent line attached and one tank was allowed to introduce air into the line either from running to low on gas or maybe steep turns, the air trapped in the line wasnt able to force its way back up to the gas tank because of the ram air into that tank. If the other tank valve was opened it had the same result, the gas couldnt overcome the air bubble trying to escape and it stopped the flow. I'm not sure I believe all that but I guess its possible.

Ed, the Avids didnt have sight gauges either. These tanks have two outlets on the bottom only.

Depending on the serial number of your plane the horizontal stab is probably not square either. I was surprised while I was taking the offset out of my vertical stab how far off the horizontal was(almost 2")

Guys, this is on a c model avid and the wing tanks butt against the butt ribs. There are no connections to the top of the tank.

    fuel vent line
Anyone have pics of how there vent line is run? I have two wing tanks that I was thinking about teeing together with a valve on each and using the other header outlet for the vent but where does the vent line end so fuel doesnt siphon.

    Bungee's
I need to get a new set of bungees for the Avid to replace the 23 year old set I have but I need some Ideas.

Spruce sells cord but how difficult is it to wire loops on and what length?

I found a post on the yahoo site that talked about 106" bungees and, the set I have are 90-93" long.

Kitfox and Highwing sell cords that are only 60" and have small crimped ends.

  22. birddog486 added a post in a topic Looking for 7/8 struts & castoring nose wheel

Thanks for the pics Jim. That setup looks like I'd need to do alot of mods to my fuse to make it work. I just finished painting my bird so I really want to avoid any major mods now if I can help it.

I'm not sure I understand how that nose gear was attached. I'd really like to find that style nose gear that will slip into the original nose gear weldment that I have. I know Airdale was making them for awhile but there not doing that anymore.

Do you have any pics how that was installed?

Ed, I used the grey ekofill, then topcoated that with the Insignia white and a plain jane red stripe painted over the white.

Thanks Jim, Im talking to John about his struts. If that nose wheel was mounted to an Avid I'm interested in it.

I was told that the kitfox nosewheel mount was different and a kitfox nose gear wouldn't work on the Avid.

I'm looking for both struts and the jurys for 7/8. I've got a pair of 3/4" jury struts and a pair of wing struts that I changed from 3/4 to 7/8 but I'm not sure I trust the way I welded them up.
