Avid Interior fabric & Sling Seat
Hi all, I have a complete Avid Interior including the Sling seat (high end SE kit) that's been kept inside a box for 25+ years and I'm considering selling it. I also have some pieces for sale including a baggage compartment carpet.
Send me a PM if your interested. I've been swamped at work so It may take me a few days to reply.

  3. birddog486 added a post in a topic What model were the speed and aerobat wing introduced

Avid added different wing options sometime during the transition from B to C models and several kits ended up with a combination of different wing and fuselage parts. The aerobat wing is built using the same rib spacing as the heavy hauler but with the speedwing ribs (not undercamber ribs) and length, They also used a couple steel drag tubes instead of all aluminum.  Your wing appears to be a standard STOL wing but I'm not sure about the length

That's a perfect example why you recover (level the wings) during a stall with rudder only. You can see in the video as the plane starts to bank to the right the left aileron is up which means the right one is down increasing the angle of attack and drag on the right wing causing the roll.

I covered my struts with Monokote and it seems to hold up just fine at 90mph on my Avid

  7. birddog486 added a post in a topic Tube diameter for 912 mount

I installed the 912 as the first engine in my plane and I had to extend the MK4 cowl to fit the 912. Also some of the 912 engine mounts from way back had the larger right side mount tube attached in the wrong location that interfered with the carb on that side. I believe Av8r3400's buddy had the same issue with his mount that he got from Airdale. The original fix was to add a 1/2" aluminum spacer to move the carb back so there was no interference and that is what I chose to do following the advice from some of the early 912 Avid builders from the Netherlands. You can see the spacer attached between the intake and carb boot.

I've got one of these installed on my 912 also. I have the bypass line feeding the heater core.

Wisconsin's E-free 91 octane Recreational gas only takes a few days to soften the early 90's fiberglass tanks to cause leaks and potentially creating major issues.

just did a matco rebuild a few weeks ago. The new pads had limited effect until getting them heated up. I did their procedure speeding up and slowing down three time and I was really surprised at the difference. I can actually stop now.

Ed, that's where the primer unbounded from the glue because of the leaking gas. once the gas was removed, evaporated and cleaned the glue and fabric had the strength like it was new. The areas where the primer unbounded and blistered I pulled off in sheets.

Yeah, It was pretty bad. That's the Stewarts system. Their paint is really bullet proof, the glue and primer not so much.(against car gas)

The Ethanol free gas(tested to be E-free) in Southern Wisconsin only took a week to cause my tank to leak and cause major damage to the Paint/finish

  22. birddog486 added a post in a topic Extend a wing

I have an extended aerobatic speedwing that was built to plans as far as the washout and I'm not all that impressed with it's capabilities. I didn't extend the flaperons but added an extension tube to move them out 3 feet away from the fuse. I'm sure if the wing was built with less washout it would perform a lot better. This Avid is fairly heavy at 667# 912ULS. VX 65 VY 75 and VS clean 48

I've never flown a STOL wing so I cant compare the two

  23. birddog486 added a post in a topic TRANSPONDERS, MODE C or S needed?

    Ed,
For now it looks like the requirement for ADSB-out is for mode S or a mode C transponder with extended squitter and will be required inside class B or C airspace, above 10,000 ft and above 18,000 which is class A airspace after the 2020 deadline. Pretty much following the Transponder requirements we have now except, the information your sending with the transponder tells them who you are.

For now there's still no requirement on having a transponder below 10K feet in class E airspace which covers most of the Eastern half of the country from 1200 feet AGL and 700 AGL over non towered airports unless there under larger class C or B airport airspace.

Checkout aircraft spruce on the transponder, they sell one that fits in a round hole in the panel and also some remote mounted transponders that can be hidden.

    Avid & Kitfox wings interchange?
Did the Kitfox 1, 2 or 3 use the same liftstrut distance as the Avid? Just wondering if there's a way to use the early Kitfox wing on the Avid.
