  1. This was a fairly old thread.  But it shows why the forums are so much better than facebook.  An old thread with it's information can be pulled up real easily with a quick search.  As I understand it, those lugs get cut off with no problem.  I had the one of the old style starters on my new Kitfox build and the motor mount is further forward, so I didn't have a issue when I used the old type starter.  Here are pictures of my firewall on the rebuilt Kitfox.  In the one with the engine mounted, you can see the starter and how it fits with the depression in the firewall.  Especially if you zoom in on the picture.  After I was done, I thought that I may have been able to hammer out the depression on the firewall, and not add a second piece.  It would have been nicer if it worked, but stood a chance of ruining the whole firewall if it didn't.  JImChuk

  2. I thought the same thing Leni.  If he got knocked out with the prop blade, that would have been all she wrote.  But at the same time, the blade doesn't look like it hit anything very solid either.  Guess they will sort it out.  I don't think there is much worry with the NR props and 912 Rotaxes at least.  I flew behind mine today and all was good.  JImChuk

  3. I finally measured mine this evening, and they are about 2 1/4" loop to loop.  3/8" diameter, and .035" wire.  JImChuk

  4. Sorry Tommy,  I meant to measure mine today when I went flying.  Forgot.  So just now I went out to the garage to measure and get some pictures of the ones for my new Kitfox.  Couldn't find them....  From memory, they are about 3/8" in diameter, and pretty fine wire.  About .035" or so.  They have to be short enough so they don't want to come unhooked when that pedal is pushed all the way in.   Mostly I think their main function it to keep the rudder cables tight.  I'll try to remember tomorrow....  JImChuk

  5. Was just looking at weight of the Continental engine, and this is what I found on Wikipedia.    That means a Jabiru 4 cylinder would be just a little less weight on the nose.  Hmmmm.  I see the plane's paperwork is still up to date as well, no airworthiness certificate yet though???  Wonder if the plane was ever flown?

  6. Odd in a way,  I think it's kind of rare for a Kitfox to burn.  Also, it looked like a pretty open area that would have been conducive for an emergency landing.  Not sure if there is a skid trail, or it was windy and burnt stuff got blown in one direction.   At any rate, sad to see it happen.  JImChuk

  7. yep, it's a tricycle gear.  With your gear, you see the wheel is centered between the upper mounting points.  The taildragger gear has the wheel slightly ahead of the front attachment point.  Notice this picture.  JImChuk

  8. If it's a sling seat, it should fit.  I was measuring a Kitfox seat and Avid fiberglass seats recently, and it seemed like the back part of the Kitfox was 1" longer.  I do have a spare Kitfox fiberglass seat from a Kitfox 2.  Depending on what motor you were using in the Kitfox, the Avid cowl may work.  582 is spark plugs up in a Kitfox and inverted in the Avid, so for that the Kitfox cowl is a lot taller.  With a 912 though, it would be a lot closer.  I was actually going to use an Avid cowl on my Kitfox 4 with 912 build.  I have since sourced a Kitfox smooth cowl and will go with it.  If you meant elevator and horizontal stabilizer, it could probably be made to work with some modification, the MK IV elevator had a built in trim tab and I seem to remember the elevator is larger than earlier Avids.  This is my Kitfox 4 with Avid MK IV cowl.  It looks short because I have a modified longer motor mount.  The standard Kitfox 4 912 mount puts the engine about 4" further back.  JImChuk

  9. I traced out a rib on 5 pieces of copier paper that were taped to a table,  Also will try to post a few pictures showing the exact length of the rib.  That way if you copy and print off the sketches and tape them back together, you can double check if yours are the right length.  If your printer isn't printing full scale, it could be wrong size.  JImChuk

PS  not sure if this will work if you copy the images and then print them out.  If someone tries, let me know how it worked.

  10. Good idea Nick.  I'll see if I can do it.  Only problem may be if some one prints it out and their printer is not printing exactly to same size/scale.  I did measure the rib for an end to end length, I'll see if I can post the pictures I took as well.  JImChuk

PS  I did post them in the files and forms,  not sure it will work if you copy the images, and then print them out.  If some one tries, please let me know if it worked.

  11. Just a few days ago, I traced out a rib on 5 sheets of printer paper taped down on a table.  Scanned the sheets and sent them to some one on facebook.  They could print them out, tape them back together and have a rib pattern.  Private message me your email and I'll send them to you.  JImChuk

  12. Hi all,  a flying  friend of mine passed away and I am helping his widow sell off some stuff.  I have a bunch of more pictures of each item, but will just post one of each for now.

2 Skycom ANR headsets with cell phone or music connection.  Aircraft spruce sells them for $240 each.  They appear to have never been used.  $140 each

2 Sigtronics S 1M headsets, also appear to be unused.  $100 each.

Garmin GPS Map 295 with extra mounts, antennas and case.  Manuals. Works good.  $225

Bendix King KX 99 hand held radio. Spare rechargeable battery, battery pack for AA batteries, charger, headset patch cord, case, manual.  Works good.  $125

Private message me and we can connect.  Thanks,  JImChuk

  13. There was an interesting video on youtube where a guy does pull tests on aluminum.  Amazing how much more it took to pull out the helicoil threads compared to just taped threads.  JImChuk

  14. Sad for sure.  Always difficult for the family to get rid of stuff as well.  And not get robbed in the process.  Just yesterday I was at a friends place to figure out what he had and to help his widow dispose of it.  Nearly finished Murphy Rebel that he put years into.  At least he enjoyed working on it.  JImChuk
