Ed, yeh they are the tall radiators which don't fit worth a sh!t! I used aluminum and silicone to baffle them off. Lawenceberg is about another 35 miles southwest of me. Stop on by when your down this way! Bryce

If your rads are long like some I saw on ebay recently, looks like a lot of the air has to turn downward to go thru the lower portion - would some aluminum fins \\\ in the nose openings help redirect the air to the lower portion, or maybe I dont have a clue on this if you have a different cowl than what I am thinking of - Avid didnt make any round cowls like early Kitfox, I dont think. How about some extra holes in the front of cowl?
How about the outbound air - does it have a good escape?
Moonshine worked for a lot of things - why not try it? I would go with aluminum tube - lighter and better.
Lawrenceberg, or Lawrence County, Airport? - Fleeman Aviation. Ancestors of my several different families came from there and Giles County to Missouri after Mr. Lincoln's Invasion of Privacy.

From what I have heard, the belly rads work when the cheek rads dont...My one belly rad was hung at 45 degrees inside the back of the cowl by an angle bracket coming off of the firewall, with baffles to keep the air from going around it......

Hey Ed, I'm about 35 miles southwest of Nashville. What airport is your cousin?

I just baffled off the rest of the radiators last fall. However, as I was changing out the straight watertube anti-freeze and water mixture I realized there's not much coolant in the system. I was not able to try that last year in the hot weather though. I want to keep the cheek radiators, I don't like the idea of having the radiators hanging off the belly of the airplane. I had thought about adding coolant reservoir or some copper lines back behind the radiators to increase the Capacity, Ala moonshine style! Bryce

Thanks for the replies guys. Some time ago, I saw something here about some issues like this but thought it was resolved. I was curious why it was still happening on my PC. I don't mind just telling it to ignore and I get right in but this friend of mine told me his Chrome browser just wouldn't let him so I thought I'd ask quick. (Before heading off to the aeroplane factory last night.

I do some web site (set up and hosting) and will look to see if I can find anything out to help resolve this. This is too good of a site and people to have this BS hampering.

Ed, I'll try your suggestion. Once I get in, it does not come up again until a reboot or next day. Not sure. King O ahy? Don't get me going on that one. Goggles somewhat left of kookoo?

The telephone was a most welcomed addition to our house - until some salesperson woke us up early in the morning or late at night, and you couldnt leave it off of the hook - then it became a pain to have.
Fortunately, with the new celphones, you can silence them when you want peace and quiet.
There is always some idiot who screws up a good thing - we either live with that, and enjoy the convenience,
or find a way to stop them.

Dale, I also have started this conversion see here the right cable stays on right side and left on left. I mounted my cable brackets a little to low on the flapperon sides and had to adjust the angle of the horns not to big a deal. also had to rebuild the flap handle. I would like to see some pictures of your system, maybe I could steal some thoughts.

I think I saw in another post that Randys cable cross TWICE to the get the left back to the left and the right back to the right.

I have seen the MK IV radiators work very well, but I think the key is to use baffles in the cowl so all the air is forced to go through the radiators and not around them.

With that being said, if you buys in the hotter climates are having issues and need the belly radiator instead, I would trade a belly mount for the MK IV setup to ya in a heartbeat. I want to get rid of the belly mount so I can build a big cargo pod under the belly.

I am not sutre what I can do to fix it. I have paid to have the forum cleaned up and the service provider assures me there are no bugs on the site. Google listed it due to a bug on the forum over 100 days ago, but after repeated attempts by me to get them to verify the site again, it has not happened. When I follow the links on google it says there has not been a reported attack from this site for over 100 days, yet it still wont drop the warnings.

I am learning to hate the damn internet these days

Chris, I will check the length when I get home tonight and get back with you tomorrow, I believe they are 5" stop to stop. I wouldn't worry to much about them breaking or binding as long as there are no abrupt bends in them as other designs have used this same system, I think the belite is using it now and I have never heard of an aircraft going down because of a broken cable. Its just like flying behind a 2 stroke you get used to it and never give it a second thought. just fly and enjoy.

Once you get your plane done, you could get your dual in it with my old instructor, Glen Morthrop. Cool guy with lots of hours, in a lot of different planes, and some experience in my Kitfox. He's a brave soul, he kept flying with me, even after a couple mishaps, and he is not afraid of 2 stroke motors. I need to go up with him again soon anyway, and that would let him refresh himself in the airplane. He lives in Eagle River, so it would be convenient to start your adventure at Birchwood. Send me an e-mail, and I'll give you his number.

    Chris, dholly, and Ed

Ok...that was what I needed. I had read through the thread before, but was just wondering if views had changed.
Unfortunately I have purchased the Caswell stuff already, but fortunately I haven't used it yet!

I plan on using straight Av gas until they don't make it anymore! That being said, sounds like not coating is my best option.

I did look into the other tanks, but I already have the fiberglass tanks installed, wrapped and not leaking! I just figured I would coat it before covering the wing if that is what you all are doing.

Chris, I did see the pics of your tank repair, great idea and craftsmanship! I copied those pics for future problems.

So, to clarify...I'm not going to coat my fiberglass tanks.

    Thanks again guys!

    Hi Bryce,
My Kitfox III, 582 has the original belly mount rad. System capacity is the same 2 qts you have. It cools well.

Just ran out to the garage and shot these pics of a radiator that came off of a Kitfox 3/ 582 project I once had. I'm sure it was supplied by Kitfox. My latest MK IV has foam around the standard Avid MK IV radiatiors that seals them to the cowl so as to force all the air though the radiators, and it seems to cool better than some other Avids I've seen. Take care, Jim Chuk

i will check out the sites you posted....will this help me read road signs too? Not much to navigate here - you either see trees, rivers, or roads....I dont like trees - too hard to land in them...cant swim either...so only thing left is IFR!

You will probably get better answers - I dont think my belly rad for the 532 would hold that much - but havent measured - wonder what manuals say? Guessing that this rad is about 6 inches high by 24+? inches wide. My Soob rad (think it is a VW rabbit rad) is 2 times as high and little wider.
Are you South of Nashville? Where? I have a cousin at Lawrence County who was making a living as A&P and covering experimentals. Need to fly over there someday.

    Kitfox Belly Radiator?
    Hey Guys,
What is the capacity of the cooling system with a belly mounted radiator? I have the original 2 cheek radiator system and it has a capacity of about 2 quarts or half a gallon. I'm wondering if the issue is a lack of capacity/overworked coolant. Bryce

I am clearly not informed as to the political stance of Google - But think may sit just to the left of King O?
Once we start giving political views and gun rights comments on here, we will be a target of the left.
I asked Leni a while back about seeing Google signed in - He gave me an OK, (I guess?), because he was speaking some alien language to me in his explanation, which I accepted since I dont know beans about puters.

Thanks Doug What you describe sounds about right on the rib interference and we were thinking on doing as you mention. Little extra reinforcement/gusseting, etc.

That may well have been your pictures with the crossed cables. I thought I saw it a couple places but time does things with ones memory. So now your cables do not cross?

    Thanks again.
