My biggest trouble is hot feet - sweat easy and then freeze - Had -90F Sorrels in Alaska and had to go out in the cold before putting them on - I hear that the battery boot socks work good too - think I will just keep the heater in the truck and one in the plane to keep the frost off of the WS. Don't usually have that much cold down here.

    For us cold weather flyers
I received enough gift cards for Gander Mt this Christmas to buy a set of Heated ThermaCell boot inserts. Holy cow do they work good. With the temps at 15 degrees today I decided to try out the boot heaters. I put them inside my leather shoes and headed for the airport. With a wireless control I turned them on high. Its the first time I did not have cold feet flying in the winter. They are not cheap but sure work good. Should work great for sitting in a deer stand during cold weather also.

My catalog says $995 - Have prices doubled, or, are you looking at tailfeathers mod too - If the parts that Leni thinks will do the job will work, then they are only a small part of your beer budget....

OK, I've got it now, thanks!   At $2,195, unless it can magically turn my KFIII into a IV, I think I'll continue to use my feet.

  9. EDMO added a post in a topic Ventral fin wanted for KF Classic IV (float ops)

    Keith,
I send him a PM about a week ago - have not heard from him since his early posts - Maybe he is on a trip or something - Look in "files and forms" for the photo and dimensions, and, in the posts he and I put on this spot or somewhere.
Let me know in another week or later on if you are still interested - If I haven't heard from him, then we can talk about it. It is about 38 x 11 and the front bracket is about 9.5 wide between 1" ears, the rear bracket bolts to the tailspring tabs. I can post the photo again here if you cant find it.

    Ed,
If you haven't made a deal with Mr. turboturner I would be interested in the ventral fin. I bought a KF IV for my son but he is rethinkingthe purchase so I may end up keeping it for myself. I like the idea of having a floatplane with foldable wings. I \ have a set of Full Lotus Floats that I may eventually install on the KF. I bought them to put on a RANS S7 but KF might be a much better plane to have floats on due to the folding wings. If he is buying it, could I bother you to get a copy of the demesions of it before it is shipped? It doesn't look like it would be too hard to make.
    Thank you,
    Keith

smoken deal on blue head gone wrong
Well my smoken deal turned into just a regular old deal again, Funny how that works, started stripping it down and found this nice crack, yup she froze solid, Luckily only got 1 cylinder and the previous owned said just send me a bill, I just told him,  you buy me a new cylinder and Ill cover the rest, that way I wont feel so guilty re ringing it at the same time.  Its probably good it happened, this way I know what I have when all said and done

The mod4 upgrade changes the mixer entirely. The model 1 kf is a direct copy of the avid a model. I'm pretty certain that we put the f7a arms on bobs mod 1, I will check when I go over there today.

The original mixer gives 2:1 more down flaperon than up.. this is what causes the drag / adverse yaw. The f7a mixer arms gets you more up than down action on the roll input and removes most of the adverse yaw. It's still easy to control with just using your feet in the stock configuration.

I think you would notice the $1000 missing from your money! Without it, you just have to do a little more work with your controls - I am a firm believer that anything can be modified - You just have to know how - I checked my catalog, and it does say "Model 3"? Havent looked at the other book yet. The big difference in "widths" was mostly at the elbows, or shoulders, I think.

As far as I know, the first 4 models were same floor width - I couldn't click to the site you said - I have hard copies of catalog, and Ed Downs' book - Will check - You could call Kitfox tomorrow.

I know little about the kit - even less about the Avid controls - Don't think they are alike - Let me check my catalog, but sure they fit model 1,2,3 - model 4 was when the modification came with kit.
I know the later model 5 and up had a completely different looking mixer. I think my memory is getting old...

I would bet the f7a arms from avid would fit the mod.1. One if the members here was making them, not sure if he still is though. Do a search for f7a.

Ed, What is this kit you mention?  I just rechecked their catalog and found nada.  Would it be applicable to just Model I, or any Model I - III?
