o-200.  I saw a Cessna 150 mount and it is pretty light.   I am looking a engine mount plan for a o-200 in a merlin.  It does not specify whether its 4130 or the inside dia.  Just says 3/4 x 035.

    Engine Mount
    Hi,

Is 4130 the typical tube steel used to fabricate a motor mount?  If so what should the inside diameter be if I am going with 3/4.

    Thanks

That has to be a KF-1. Serial #108, and KF1 doors.
Strangest IP and nose tank setup I have ever seen. Looks like they didn't have builder manual!
My model 1 looked more like a "normal" IP, and the tank only showed thru a small vertical slot in the IP that was a visual gage.

WTF is a GK-3? Not only is it a Model 1 it's an early Model 1 based on that serial number. Model 1 went thru #257. Model 3 didnt start till #749. Looking to trade for a tri gear plane with fresh fabric on the wingtip hmmmm. Another groundloop victim perhaps. Wonder if there was fuse damage and a prop strike too? I would not pay more than 10k for a Model 1 with known damage history. I hope any prospective buyers go to Kitfoxes website and look at the history page. Big difference between a 1 and 3 and his price doesn't reflect that.

I ran across a Craigslist ad for a 582 powered Kitfox Model III in Hudson, WI. I have no personal knowledge of this plane or the seller. Looks like it has a little recently repaired wingtip damage on one side.

This tank is off a 1996 Ski Doo Scandic.  I think it holds 2.5 Qts.  I installed it with the outlet level with the pump inlet in 3 point attitude.  When I switched to the 22" King Fox tires the outlet is now about an inch lower than the pump inlet in 3 point.  There is room to move it higher on the fire Wall but I decided there isn't much to gain as the oil left in the tank if near empty is only what's in the sump at the bottom of the tank.

With your big tires and monster gear you may have to sacrifice a few ounces in the bottom of the tank to "Unusable" oil.

If you have a block of steel and a small ball pene hammer, that works, too.

You can also squeeze them with a small "c" clamp.

I have an original brand new Avid Tank. You can see it in the bottom left corner of this pic. Welcome to it if you can use it.

The oil pump has a VERY limited suction on it.  you should be able to install the oil tank up high on the firewall per the plans or use the newer KF oil tank that holds a couple quarts.  My cap just clears the cowling by about a 1/4".

When John Stoner was building the ribs for dakota cub he modified a few pair of vice grips to get into some tight corners.  He ground the teeth off both sides of the jaws, then drilled one side just enough to capture the head of the rivet.  It takes a couple practice rivets to get the vice grips set just perfect for each size your squeezing to get the set perfect.  He also put a jamb nut on the vice grip "lead screw" so once set for that length rivet, he could lock the nut down and squeeze away and never loose the setting when you flip it open.

    Jim,
The best excuse to the boss for being late that I ever heard was from my fellow toolmaker apprentice when we were in our early 20's - He said, "The reason I am late is because I didn't get started in time to finish on time to get dressed and get to work on time." The boss excused him! And, I think his first son was born about 9 months later!!

    Oil injection tank location
hey guys is the oil on a 582 gravity feed like it is on the 503. The reason I am asking when my plane sits on the tail-wheel, I level back to the fire wall to see where the bottom of my tank needs to be while on the ground or in a climb, that does not leave me much room for any size tank. Or am I looking at this wrong and the oil pump has suction?

thats what I was thinking I bet I could grind and file an old vicegrips to make a nice squeeze, what do you think for size on rivets, smallest and shortest I can find.

    TJay,
You may be able to squeeze aluminum rivets with a modified pair of Vicegrip pliers.
If you decide to use pop rivets, use the shortest one possible, and install them with the tails to the top of the flaperon, and file the broken sharp end of the stem on bottom slightly.

I ran across this video while looking at some of the Doubliners vids on youtube.  They did a lot of great Irish folk songs/ ballads starting in the early sixties.  Song is from a time when most work was done by hand (and without OSHA in existence LOL)  If you move forward on the video  to 28:40, you should find the song.  It's about 3 minutes long and I thought well worth the time it took to hear it.  Here is the link (I hope)    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyBZl5qwQ_Q   enjoy,  Jim Chuk
