Snaps has lots of 670 time on float planes.

Do you know the serial number?  Mine is #841, and was sold as a 'C', the build manual says 'D', and it has all the Mk IV upgrades. It originally had the square rudder, but after a ground loop, the original builders replaced the busted square rudder with the round one.

the streamline covers do make a big difference but the gap in performance is to big and it is underpowered .I thought someone on this forum had good luck with the 670.
ed .full lotus are heavy and not very pointy but they are the only float for me cause theyre tough and as much fun as they are in the summer ,even more fun in the winter.they beat straight skis off the snow.i was landing in three feet of powder this winter and they stay on top of it.

WOW! INFLATION IS RAMPANT!I like the newer, flat one better than the old round header. You can also get a low-fuel warning to go in it.

Ha not yet ed, I thought $1125 was enough to spend on fuel tanks for 1 month, Ill save the header tank another month or.

    TJay,
Did you get a header tanks with those wing tanks? Kitfox says, "Never leave home without it".

Try changing the angle, move the front of the dash up or down,( it's mounted on little rubber thinges ) it will change the cruve of the windscreen.

Also if anybody has pictures of the glare shield, and windshield where they all come together up front would be nice too, That way I know how to do my kitfox 1 when I get there. I eliminated my front fuel tank so I can have a nice big instrument panel similar to the kitfox 3 and 4 setup, really just not sure if the windshield attaches to the glare shield or how they come together. Hopping pictures will help me and Bill.

Hi Jim thanks for the response. I may have a model c with all mk4 upgrades but the rudder. Do you know if the model c and mk4 use the same dashboard? Just trying to figure out why mine is so far off? I'll try and post some pics of the problem tomorrow.

    Thanks

    Ed,

My full lotus floats actually cruise and climb better than the EDO floats.  I know I cruise faster on the full lotus than I do with the skis on my Avid.

Yes, the cub he has been using is N6455S  He even managed to put it through the ice in 2008 at anderson lake

He better be the center of a big investigation that strips him of his planes and guiding / hunting license forever up here.

If you could put points on the front of those big floaty thingys, that should add 50 mph to your cruise!

I've known several people who have done 618 and 670 Rotax snowmobile conversions in airplanes (Avids and Kitfoxes), from Rick and others.

None of them were successful.  Poor reliability being the main reason, impossible tuning and uncontrollable peaky power bands being more reasons cited.  No one trusted them very far from the pattern at the airport.

There's a guy on TeamKitfox with one (in a model III, I believe).  When pressed, he will finally admit to only having a few hours on the plane, but sings the praises of incredible power and performance.  I say, if it's so incredible, why so few hours on the plane.  There is a reason not being stated.  I believe that reason to be what the people I have know have stated (above).

I cant open it, but totally agree with Leni - it makes us all look bad.
Where is Alaska Fish & Game? They could add to their fleet of confiscated planes, if the FAA is not going to enforce their rules.

Using an experimental cub to guide hunting clients??
So I think we all agree that you can't make a dime using an experimental aircraft, yet there is some dip shit up here who lives in Colorado that has been using his experimental cub for years to fly out clients on whats suppose to be a guided hunt.  The horror stories are stacking up about how this guy treats his clients once out in the field, but the big issue for me is using an experimental plane to fly out and move clients around in the field.  Am I the only one that see's this as an issue the feds should be tossing the book at him for?

Here are a couple links to some of the horror stories

This one pisses me off.  We look stupid enough to the world now with the dumb ass shows they are putting out about Alaska.

This guy is very UN-professional making big money using an experimental plane and is just another example of an out of state guide raping the resources and doing it illegally at that.  The wanton waste this guy has caused would be enough for me to loose my plane, gun, gear and hunting privileges here, yet he seems to get away with it year after year.

    OK rant over.

What made it a -14? The -12 had starter and generator.Piper went to Lycosaurus engines sometime after the J3 - Some one better educated in Piper history will need to figure out if they had any Continental engines with starters. I wouldn't know a PA-4 from a PA-99 except for the PA-20/22, which btw, I think, also had the Lyc. 320 engine, or was that an option, or STC, from the 290? And, of course, the PA-18 SuperCub.
I flew an Apache once, but was too busy with 2 of everything to worry about what PA number it was!

    My new Tail
Well this was Saturdays work this weekend, I made some tail formers and glued them in place. I know extra weight in the tail, but I think it will look nice. I haven't done the elevator yet because I think I will stretch it out a couple inches.

  24. akflyer added a post in a topic Stringers Question

weld them on.. its going to get drug through brush etc and wood stand offs will get moved around.  I'm glad mine is welded tubing as I had a buddy helping do a float swap this summer and he decided to get under the plane and put his back to the stringer and lift up with his legs to help get a bolt aligned.. I was able to get 90% of the bend out of the tube by putting a couple small holes in the fabric and putting a rope around the tube and pulling it back down, then a couple seaplane grommets and it looks like it was meant to be that way.

Thanks Guys I am going to put some standoffs under her, there will be a small percentage of people that will see it but I like it that way. Now all I need to decide is if I want to weld on some standoffs or make them out of wood.
