Ok Mr. Bandit.. is there a difference in the taste of the two? Or three? ( I can't tell ya the difference between a musky, wally, or pike.

Thanks mr! I try to keep it easy to use and open... as in no moderating. I'm still amazed that on a site that brags about not moderating anything, our members have self moderated and I have not had to smack a single member around yet.. but other sites are moderating with a heavy hand. Dang, a good heated argument here every once in awhile would be nice.. keeps the heart pumping and the blood flowing

Again guys, thanks for being civil and helping to make this the best site around!

    Hey Leni,

There are several sites I visit that require the external image hosting account. Not only is it a pain, but half the time when you go back to old posts, you find dead images. It's nice that we don't loose images here. Hopefully our contributions will get to the point that we cover those costs for you. I've already gotten a lot of information from this site I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else.

    Thanks again,
    Luke D.

No worries! I do run it out of the goodness of my heart but I'm not Ed.. running it and paying for means something entirely different though I went for years paying for the site with no contributing members. After several hack attacks, server changes, security adds, etc the costs were getting stupid. I went from 6.95 a year for hosting to several hundred bucks just for the hosting in order to give you guys unlimited uploads etc. Other site keep costs down by having you upload pics to a site like photo bucket, then you link those pics to the site. It's a pain in the ass and I would rather pay the costs to be able to upload and store the pics right to this site. Over the last 2 yrs you guys have stepped up and helped to shoulder those costs. It's appreciated that you guys feel you get enough put of the site to help pay the costs. It also gives you a voice on a direction for the site. If you have any gripes or a list of wants drop me a note!

yes we have Pike here too. This is a 37 inch pike that I mounted. A kid caught it in the same river as I caught the walleyes in.set the meat outside of the shop because it smelled like fish slime. My dog grabbed it and took it over to the neighbors and buried it. The neighbors dam dog dug it up and brought it back.

There have been days that I prayed for 1 mile...

My first trip to the lodge I hit a snow storm and I had to stay in the river bed and keep the trees withing 100' of my wing tip to be able to make them out.  That flight tightened me right up.  To land in the river bed with all the pressure ridges was a 99% chance of ripping the gear off and wrecking the plane, the river was too narrow to turn around in and to climb above the trees was a sure bet of loosing sight of the ground and with no AH in the Avid panel I was not about to try and climb above it.  All I could do at that point was to pull in some flaps, pull back on the power and slow down as much as I could hoping to make my arrival in the trees as slow as possible.  I zoomed in the GPS as tight as it would go and kept heading up river till I got the lodge.  The forecast for that day was clear below 10K and a slight possibility of scattered snow showers... The weather guessers got it way wrong that day!

Just a total guess but I'm going to say it has to do with the lack of sim instrument (hood time) required for the Sport Pilot. I'm with Jim... 3 miles sucks...can't fathom 1 mile.

The lowest visability I ever flew in was (I think) 1 1/2 mile. I got caught in some snow, and landed on a frozen lake about 1/2 mile from the airport that was reporting 1 1/2 mile visability. They had 2 paved runways, and no provision for people on skis. I think they had to have fantastic eyesight to see anything 1 1/2 miles away, I didn't think I could see 1/2 mile away. I was on skis at the time, and had picked up a friend from that lake a couple of hours earlier so we could go to a ski flyin. Got caught in the snow on the way back. Anyway, I don't have any problem with the 3 mile visability rule judging from what it looked like when they were reporting 1 1/2 mile visability. Just me though, VMMY. Jim Chuk

When I came home from Germany, I was invited to my Grand Aunt's house for fish dinner - they told me it was Carp. I immediately said that I probably wouldn't like Carp. I was quickly told that I had eaten Carp all the time I was growing up. If you know how to clean them and cook them, they are good.
Probably would have said the same about Pike - but like Walleye!

I don't think it would matter,  if you were to use one long piece of finish tape (that covers top and bottom)  to cover each rib after you  ribstiched.  That way you wouldn't have a possibility of having the front end of the tape coming loose in the wind.  The manual does show doing the span wise tapes (like over ribs) first, then the cross wise tapes afterwards though.  Jim Chuk

Because most of us old codgers are farsighted?
The Private Pilot had to have some Instrument hours?
The ultralight cant go fast, or that far?
If you cant see China, you shouldn't take off?
Guess they just don't trust us?

Go over it again with a brush applied layer of Polybrush thinned to 50/50 over the Polyspray.  This will fill the pinholes and thinned 50/50 will flow out leaving no brush strokes.  You can then spray Polyspray again over it.

I just had a conversation about this today with Dave the covering guru, the genius helping me with my plane.  He told me he has done this several times with great results.  Another thing you absolutely can't do with Stewarts...

Leni, Pike is to snowmobile as Walleye is to snowmachine.   (Which for the record, even Apple spellcheck does't like.)

3 mile vis in Class G airspace (Sport Pilot)
Getting ready for a bi-annual (havent flown in a long time, like 2 years ). I see that the 3 mile vis requirement is still there for Sport Pilots in class G.  Any idea why this is (when ultralight pilots, private pilots have only 1 mile)?

Rib Stitch over Covered Wings with Perimeter Tapes
Can you rib stitch after perimeter tapes have been installed (can this be done without needing to reaccomplish perimeter tapes), or do I buy into adding another layer of perimeter tapes to the wings?

We have a weather reversal going on here.. Its been in the upper 30s and well into the 40s all week at the house.  Raining like hell and no snow left in the yard.  Frickin weird winter for sure!

Have you had pike?  I know they are a close cousin of the walleye, maybe even the difference is like a caribou and a reindeer.. geographic location otherwise they look and taste the same

I think I prefer pike to halibut.  The guy that owns the lodge showed me how to fillet them so you don't get any bones in the fillets and the small strip that ends up with all the bones he pickles and it dissolves them... good damn eating fried, pickled or however else he cooks it.

They got a 45 or 47" out of the lake in front of the lodge last summer.. most of them run 18-30".  My biggest I pulled out of there was 42"  Fun fish on a light trout rod and 6 pound test!

I tried ice-fishing when a teen in Michigan, also rode once in a convertible with the top down at 19 below! Ice don't get thick enough here, but thick enough to keep your boat out of the lake.

And, anything I can put one in, like Kitfox, Ercoupe - Yes, I was trained in the old 150, 172,182, etc. Instructors kept bitching because the runway was not dead-centered behind me on takeoff - the compass don't keep you centered, so I used the mirror a lot! It's also good to watch the hot rod who took off right behind you. Of course, bush flyers don't have that problem!

Ya, these are great eating size fish. The nice thing about it is we can catch them on the river that is only about a half mile from my house. I will agree they are not as good as halibut but, much cheaper per pound though. I might as well fish, its been to cold to fly. Its been about 8 below every night for a week.
