Sorry that no one has answered your trailer question - we don't have many Colorado members.
My veery limited knowledge is S&S Trailers built at Sikeston, Missouri, - PJ Trailers made in Texas, - and one HUGE trailer sales place for new and used trailers of all sorts in Great Falls, Montana.

Oh Yes,  The $3000 new PJ flatbed trailer I bought at Fort St.John, Canada for $6500, and sold it here for $3000 !!!
I would like to have an enclosed trailer, but would rather settle for a cheap modified boat trailer, or used flatbed, and use the money saved to pay hanger rent, or fuel.

    Enclosed trailer for Kitfox
Does anyone have experience with trailers made by Mark Sorenson in Georgia? They are advertised in Barnstormers under 'custom aircraft trailers'. I'm considering buying one and was hoping I could get a good reference regarding materials and construction quality. Thanks ahead of time.

Just saw this, maybe someone is interested.  Don't know anything about it that isn't in the add.   Tried to paste the add here, it doesn't want to show up???  It's an unfinished project, in Canada, $14,000 Jim Chuk

Nice TR.  Looks like a great time and a wide variety of planes!  No sure I am too jealous of the temps and DA though.  I am spoiled at SL and mid 70s

Just my 2 cents on it, but here are my thoughts.  If you shoot it out the bottom, it will take a lot longer for the chute to deploy.  Supposedly a chute can begin to deploy within about 100' of altitude.  Shooting it out the bottom will loose you quite a bit of distance.  I think the chute is at least 30' from the plane when deployed.  If that's the case, shooting it down instead of up will mean 60' lost verses shooting it up.  If it goes up instead of down, it also shouldn't get wrapped around the tail of the plane when it deploys.  Just something to think about.  YMMV.  Jim Chuk

    LarryS,
I still think moving the hanger one hole forward would have solved both of your clearance problems - maybe still have to disconnect to fold?

Interesting thought.  I disconnect the control rods regardless.  Doesnt help with the folding issue. I also remove my aft flaperon hing bolts and rotate the hinge updward which then gives clearance to fold.  Kind of a pain in the shorts and time consuming, but does work (kinda).

That's very interesting. Are they the same I beam as the KF inserts? I'd be interested to see some pictures when you get them. If they're the same, I'll be buying mine from Just.

The outside diameter of the Just inserts are 2.365 since I have .083 spar wall thickness I will probably have to do some vixen filing and sanding to make a nice fit but for $112 bucks to feel 100 times safer I'll spend some time doing what I have to.

    Austin Nevada Fly-in 2015
I copied this from my post over at Backcountrypilot.org. Good times with good people. For those of you who were at Osh you may recognize a couple of these planes.

I have not seen too many pics from the Fly-in or any Fly-in's this summer for that matter so thought I would do a quick TR from Austin last weekend.

I elected to Rent a 172 from the Flight School where I did my Instrument rating last year. 9904V is a 430W equipped M model with Powerflow exhaust and climb prop. It's their best performer on the ramp. Not a speed demon but we had no problem getting up to 10.5 with my wife, 5 year old, and our gear.

We took off out of Nut Tree in Vacaville,CA at about 630am for what I though was going to be about 2 hrs 20 min enroute. After going North around Minden to stay out of the taller stuff and South around the restricted areas and Cold Springs fireTFR it ended up being just over 3 hours and 250NM. Conditions were pretty crummy. I stayed down at 9500 because my wife does not do well with high altitude flying. We were right in the smoke all the way. Between the smoke and the sun in our eyes forward vis was crap. I was up with Radar and despite being in legal VFR conditions I stayed on instruments most of the way. I suspect this deterred a few people from coming. I would not have been comfortable flying in those conditions in my plane with no attitude source. We arrived just before 10 and I got to experience my first landing at 5700 MSL in a Cessna. I kept up my speed up and accepted a long landing on the 6000ft newly paved strip.

Once we arrived I parked between the Wilgabeast and a Lear Jet only to find that the tie down rings on the new ramp are about 40 feet apart and totally unusuable for a normal sized airplane. Joe what's up with that?? I moved our plane over into the dirt off the side of new ramp and tied it down with my own tie downs.

Lots of great activities went on through out the day and it was great to hook up with old friends and visit. The STOL competition and other competitions were a hoot to watch. You guys make that stuff look WAY too easy especially at 5700 MSL with temps pushing 100F. If anyone remembers a good temp they heard from the AWOS sat afternoon post it so I can calculate the actual DA. Just guessing that it was pushing 9K and those guys were still getting off the ground super short.

Lunch was provided by the Lions club and was as awesome as I remember from 2012 and for $10 a plate it was more than worth it for what they fed us. After that I seemed to keep finding myself in line at the little yellow camper for cold beverages. $2 for a Sierra Nevada!!

As the sun went down Pops did the awards ceremony. My favorite went to the couple who got the best Fly-by award. If you look at the pics you can probably figure out which jet....I mean plane won that one. We finished off the night around the campfire.

We got a fairly early start on Sunday as we needed to stop for fuel in Yerington and I had to have the rental back by noon. It sounded like there was Bfast available for those who stuck around. The vis was MUCH better on Sunday and we had a nice cruise home over Lake Tahoe after a quick fuel stop in Yerington. Total flight time was 6.3 hrs. The bill was a little painful but I can't complain considering this was my only big trip of the summer because I've been swamped with DC-10 training since Jan.

I'd like to personally thank Joe Pops Dory and Teresa for opening up their airport for us and also the Austin Lions club and the rest of the volunteers who made this happen. If you have never been I would put it on your list of places to go for sure. Good people, fun flying, great food, and always a memorable trip. Always difficult to pick which pictures to upload to photobucket and post but here's something anyways.

    TJay,
the Kitfox inserts might not fit your spars anyway - have you measured your spar wall thickness/ID?
Hoping you can post some photos and dimensions of the Just inserts when you get them.
I wonder if the Just inserts are the same as what you have?
Although I usually feel that Kitfox parts are overpriced, they may have paid more wholesale than Just for the inserts and have to charge more?   But, That's a huge difference in prices!

Just camped with HAL this weekend. His S7 doesn't even sound like a 912. It sounds GOOOOOD! At 9000 DA he was still climbing straight up.

Ok guys I bit the bullet and ordered the I beam stiffeners today, only not from Kitfox. I Bought them from Just Aircraft, and here is why, kitfox price quote $150 each total $600 bucks Just Aircraft price quote $28 each total $112 bucks, Now I'm all about a business making a profit to keep the lights on but when I have to pay the whole years electric bill, now that just pisses me off. I am for once really disappointed with Kitfox.  That's one point for Just Aircraft.

I don't know about ya'll, but in the event of a catastrophic failure on one of these, such as folding the wing in flight ( it has never happened yet that I know of) It would be me bringing on the wing fold or failure intentionally and in that case I have no need to pull a chute and take a chance on limping away from the crash.... At that point I would want to burn in and make as big of a smoking hole as possible.. Life in a wheelchair does not sound like much fun to me.  The only other time a BRS would be good is in the event of an engine failure over hostile territory and again it would be my fault for flying too low to make something resembling a landing.  I would rather have the added cargo capacity than a BRS in my plane.

My friend just installed a chute in his Rans S-6. It fires out the top. He cut a hole and covered it with that heat shrink model airplane covering. Looks pretty good.

Great stuff guys, and yes I was using the book arms, which do not include the leading edge extension. I need to correct those and re-crunch numbers.

Thanks again for all the feedback and the research some have done here. Very much apprecaited. This 90% done and 90% to go phase is taking much longer than anticipated.

    Lsaupe,

If you are still thinking about adding weight up front, this guy can make what you need.

    http://www.sabermfg.com/extensions.htm
Saber Manufacturing can make you a weight to bolt to your prop hub.
I had them make me one for my Starduster with aft CG problems. Good guy...

    Hey guys,

I know their aren't a lot of guys looking for lycoming acessories on here, but Im selling a Hartzell Prop Governor for $625. It comes with the gear assembly for a lycoming accessory case and the oil tube that routes to the front of the engine.
    it came off a Lycoming IO-360 C1C.
I think the price is right for selling it quickly. It can be sent in as a core for a value of $800.

It is listed on ebay at the link up top.

    Thanks,
    Ron

I think I would cut a hole in the turtledeck and either let the top of the canister stick up thru it, or make a thin patch for the BRS to take out a plug out of the TD - Lexan is a little tougher than plexiglass.
I never had any training of how to ride a plane to a landing supported by a parachute...Hold breath & pray?
