Classic IV Restoration

It is the model IV-1200 spring, but was extended 2" on each side.

I wanted the extention in order to run the larger Matco pneumatic tailwheel.

I have the 22 inch tall "Taildragger" Grove Spring gear on my nosedragger.

1.  My plane started out as a taildragger

2.  I got a good deal on the KF5 gear for my "Fat, Heavy, Foxy".

3.  6 more inches height and 8" wider is always better!   But 7 or 10 extra pounds is not...

The nosedragger gear is only 16" to axle, and that didn't leave enough room for my 600-6 nosewheel .

I will post photos of mine someday, after I can finish my wing mods and new struts.

Right now we are watching your bird get finished.

Looking Good.

Looking good Larry.  I love that tall gear. of course you will have to get some real tires once you get done with those toy tires. :)

Also as noted elsewhere, I have ordered a wiring harness to be built from ACS.  Wiring all that expen$ive electronics had me worried.  I hope to have that in the next week or two.

Also something else coming.  Stay tuned for the big reveal on that one...

95 in the hangar today. I plumbed my brakes to the peddles and installed the tailwheel chains.

Played a little more with fitting items on and around the firewall.

Also have the lift strut pvc covers on and fabric covered. Tail feathers painted.

I didn't know that pvc strut covers had to be covered with fabric ??   Guess you cant paint them without it?

Again,  nice paint job.

Probably back in the earlier part of the thread, but how many inches did you add to the horizontal stabilizer? It looks w-i-d-e !!

Yes, you can.  But I didn't put them together as Kitfox wanted.  (Naturally not the easy way)

The additional width is in the elevator.  Basically in the balances.

Anything less than 102" is trailerable in most states - maybe depending on the road.

EdMO

Larry,

Are you going to put a step on the Grove legs?  I have a couple of Cessna 150 pads I think I will use.

The elevator is about 9' wide.  Towing and trailering is not a priority for this plane.

It will retain the wing fold but after it makes the trip to the airport it will probably never get folded again.

The elevator is obvious, but from the space between the balances it looked like the HS was widened as well. Optical illusion I guess...

Just camped with HAL this weekend. His S7 doesn't even sound like a 912. It sounds GOOOOOD! At 9000 DA he was still climbing straight up.

Progress is still happening. I've been working on wiring and slowly things are coming alive. Nothing to photograph, though. Wiring is definitely a big project when you are trying to install one of these glass boxes. I just need to keep doing a little more every day and it will come together.

I caught Dave staring at my wing tips the other day with that "look" on his face again. So I'm sure that one of these days I'll stop over and he'll have redone them...
