I've flown on wheels with 4 or 5" of snow. Heavy wet snow would be worse than light fluffy stuff of course. Skinny tires will cut through the snow better than wide ones. Try for three point full stall landings as well. Don't wheel land it.

How deep does snow have to be before putting on the snow skis? Diva has the big Aero Classics on her, but I don’t want to find out the hard way

Jim. I don't think my plane has any of the upgrades you mentioned. I'll try to get a look at it in the next couple days. I know it doesn't have the rudder pedal mods for instance.

I built those skis myself. I have a sketch somewhere that I was making and never completely finished. Some one else was asking about it the other day, and I couldn't find it. Here is a post I started a few years ago. JImChuk

Jim, I'm jealous. Not that I have a lot of use for skis, but I am curious if those are production pieces or did you make them? If you made them are they plans you could share or are they in your brain?

The heavy hauler wing has two ribs between the ribs with the long tailed ribs that the flaperon hinges on. The STOL wing has only one rib between the long tailed ribs.

Unfortunately, this kit came with 3/4" lift struts which I understand lowered the gross weight. If I could find some 7/8" struts (or get better at tig welding), I would substitute them. The ribs are spaced closer than the stol wing.

Thanks for the replies guys. A friend has a three blade hub (Duc) coming and I can give his a try so I guess I’ll see how that goes. He tried the four blade and didn’t care for that so he’ll have an extra blade anyway.

Well if your kit is mostly complete, if you have .083 spars then you should have lift struts that are 7/8 inch in diameter, and this is what is on my heavy hauler plane. The heavy hauler wing and aerobatic speed had more ribs in them then the "lighter" models.

My NR has treated me well, no complaints. The performance is not as good at my 78x48 Prince down low, but better top end.
I've spoken with a couple guys at OSH who love their DUC propellers. One guy had a constant speed version and had nothing but praise for it's performance.

The Bing floats shouldn't weigh over 7 grams for the pair. If they are to heavy, your fuel level will rise in the float bowl.

I was helping a friend of mine order an NR prop, and I had a hard time getting a response from him, so ended up ordering it from Meglin Propellers and fans for everyone - Home (mozello.com) He has it on a Kitfox 4 with 912 ULS. They are the same props as NR sells. He just got a few flights with it, and now is snowed in so he hasn't really had a chance to test it much. I'm running a 2 blade NR on my Kitfox 4 with 80 HP 912, and I like it. Have one on the new Kitfox 4 build as well, but it's not flying yet. JImChuk

My kit originally was an aerobatic speedwing with .083" spar tubes. I am (very slowly) building new wings with .063 tubes and Just Aircraft spar stiffener inserts. I believe they are the same inserts as Kitfox currently uses. The new wings should be plenty strong for a higher gross but my guess is the plane would then be limited by the fuselage construction and struts. would be nice to know the structural differences with the MkIV. Specifically tube diameters and wall thickness in critical areas. I've seen the extra gussets in a few places but can't imagine they are the only changes.

Anybody flying behind a Duc prop? I have the means to purchase one for myself at wholesale but haven’t pulled the trigger, seems like all of the quality props claim super performance but all end up about the same.
Flying behind a Warp Drive with no complaints at present. Price wise NR seems hard to beat just a bit of a hassle with ordering. 2 vs 3 blade thoughts?

As Jim had said start looking over the fuel and electrical. That it sputters with dual ignition on rough ground would imply its not ignition.... but you obviously had the plugs out and the caps off if it has been sitting that long.

Guess I would check the floats and fuel level in the float bowl, and also look at all the ignition wires incase one of them has a crack of something and the bump/vibration seperates things for a second. Just a bit of a guess on both accounts though.

Hey Guys,
Got the Old Avid Diva out flying after a looonnngggg hiatus. All good, however when the girl hits a bump on the field, when the throttle is above half throttle, the engine stumbles/stutters drops rpm’s. Once the field smooths out, the engine runs fine. Runs great all other flight conditions. Any ideas what’s going on? Thanks, Bryce

Next thing to check is the thickness of the aluminum wing spars. This will point you in the direction of what your gross weight will be with the stol rib configuration.

I stand corrected. I had not seen the model letter on anything else. Thanks for the information. Mine was delivered in August of 1990 so obviously would be a C based on that.

The "kit" that went on to become the plane I now have was invoiced and delivered in late january to mid febuary of 1991 with a serial number a bit over 800 and is referenced in all documentation as a "c" model.

Recently I saw someone had made dolly wheels with two wheels and it looked like a good idea to me. My single wheel ones sagged to one side and weren't the best. Made a set of the duel wheel ones and finished them today. Much better. Pull the one 1/4" bolt and they come off. They are a bit wider than needed for these skis, but I may make another set of skis, and they will be a bit wider. JImChuk
PS not sure how this ended up in the close calls and dumb stunts the first time. Moved it now and will try to delete the other post.
