Birddog, the nose gear attaches to two tabs that were welded onto the seat truss, and the suspension top mount was welded to the cluster of tubes that are about 18" ahead of the seat truss. Mike, I'll have to measure it and get back to you. Jim

Thanks Jim, Im talking to John about his struts. If that nose wheel was mounted to an Avid I'm interested in it.

I was told that the kitfox nosewheel mount was different and a kitfox nose gear wouldn't work on the Avid.

I'm looking for both struts and the jurys for 7/8. I've got a pair of 3/4" jury struts and a pair of wing struts that I changed from 3/4 to 7/8 but I'm not sure I trust the way I welded them up.

Yes Ed you can email it to me or post it. I'll be moving stuff around that get's posted as the goal is to put a large group of things into one thread with hyperlinks so if your looking for something specific rather than search through mountains of old threads it'll all be right there. For example there might be a thread titled Rotax 582. Within that thread will be the owners manual, operators manual, 2-stroke tuning manual, and carb settings all listed right there rather than in 5 different threads. The info is all out there it's just a matter of me finding it again and consolidating it into one place. It's going to take some time and hopefully it will be an evoloving process. You should start to see some things pop up tomorrow when I get some time.

Agreed.  In my KF, I practiced 300' engine out 180's and felt like there was reasonable margin.   Really pushing it below that though.

    Joey,
Guessing that if I posted any, it would be in files or in Technical info?
Sorry, but I seem to forget to take my memory pills lately!

Another great local aviator lost....God speed Fred!
Fred was amazing Chief Master Sergeant, Pilot, Flight Engineer, and Mentor. I went through Flight Engineer school with his son and have known the family since I became stationed at Travis. They were hangared right behind me and I saw him just about everytime I was at the airport. He adminstered over 1000 Flight Engineer checkrides over the years for Airforce guys on Airforce jets so they could get their civilian FE tickets. I was totally shocked to hear about this. He was flying his pipeline route in his own plane as he he had done 1000's of times before. Stay safe out there there guys it can happen to anyone! Damn it this is the one thing I HATE about Aviation!!!

Don't know if you want both struts or just one, but John Larson posted on the Avid yahoo group that he had two 7/8" struts. He did say one was made special about 1/2" shorter or longer (don't remember which right now) because the builder had messed up the attachment location on the wing spar. Don't know which it was though (right or left) I have a nose wheel from an Avid, it's the later Kitfox style as far as I know. Have the Grove main gear as well. Not sure what to ask for them though. I want to work on putting a lot of the great technical information that we have floating around out there into one place where it's easy to find. If you have any documents that are Avid/Kitfox related please post them here or email them to me at kc135joey at hotmail.com so I can begin to compile them here on the forum.

Okay.  I see what you are doing wrong.

The link you are posting is a secondary link from some other source.  I put in the YouTube search window "Avid takeoff and landing" found the same video in the list, went to it and posted that URL.  The coding of that URL is different from the one you posted, (note the "youtu.be" in the beginning of the code you posted).

This is the code I copied:

    http://    www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfT66JlUHL8&feature=youtu.be

I added some spaces after the // so that it wouldn't generate the embedding.

How did you locate that video, Mark?

Been there done that Ed, no such thing as a $2 fix. Fixed the leak the second time by putting  the inserts in, which I should have did the first time around.
Bought them from Stace at Rocky Mt Wings.

I like Stewarts glue process, but think the paint is about 4 times too high!
I will say that the paint is really tough when put on aluminum or FG. Cant scratch it.

Travis, did you use the white primer plus the white finish coat? This is what we did, as recommended for yellow and for red, before the final yellow coats on the J3. I would have left it in white primer over the UV and then the yellow, but my buddy is a perfectionist, and he was paying the bill, and it is his plane. Really looks good for $3K.

I'm curious to hear the cost of the oratex also. I'm just finishing up the painting on a c-model avid and the total cost for the cheap medium covering, tapes and paint using all stewarts is just south of 2k.

This is a white bird with two quarts of red thrown in.

well if you factor in that most guys are PAYING someone else to cover the plane and paint it (not us home builders) then you have a substantial savings in not paying your A&P or local paint shop to paint the plane after covering.

It is nothing for a guy to have 8-10 into a cover and paint job.  I know a guy that just paid 15 to get his 170 painted..

Im looking for a set of 7/8 lift struts and the 7/8 jury struts.

I'm also interested in the RV style castoring nose wheel if anyone has one for sale. I checked with airdale and he no longer makes the nose gear.

Why don't you call Stewarts and ASK?I was told that an IA here topped off his Stewarts glue and UV with Randolphs paint - Don't know if that was regular Randolph or Randthane.
The guy in Alaska talked about the cost of covering a Supercub with Oratex being about $4000 - To me, that is sure as heck NOT 20% less!
There is no topcoat paint with Oratex.
I thought my buddy was too perfectionist, which he is, when he spent $3100 for us to cover and paint the J3 with Stewarts.
I can buy 35 yards of 1.7 for about $250, or 2.7 for $400, and Randolphs for about $75 a gallon - I cant see over $1000 in covering and painting my bird, even if I have to spray it in the yard, make a temporary paint booth, or roll/brush it on.

I think once you factor in a urethane paint top coat, it will be very competitive.

It still doesn't hold a candle to the repairabity, ease if use and durability of Stits/Poly Fiber.

What I would really like to know is if the Stewarts glue and subcoats can be topped with Polytone. I will not use the super carcinogenic Stewarts paint.
