My 1992 MKIV HH w/582 had quite an offset and flew as true as could be. I think Avid switched from offset vert stab to offset engine mount to allow use of engine options that turn opposite the geared 582.

He has been slammed enough here, I will try and reach him again and will let you know if we have come to an agreement, If anyone else is able to do the same let us know, I have not had much luck reaching him so far, but there is no use trying to air it out here, I always had better luck reaching him by email, but have not been able to get this offer to him yet. I will let you know if I can bring Airdale back when I have reached him.

Engine mount not on center line
This is on my Avid Mark IV Heavy Hauler (about 1992 or 93 vintage).  This is a rebuilding project from an unfinished kit.  As I was removing the hardware around the engine to take it off the plane I noticed that it is about one inch off center to the left looking from the prop.  The engine mount came with the kit from Avid and the mount is built asymmetrical to make it off center.  I just did not expect it find an off center mounting.  I talked to a person who works on Rotax engines and he said he has heard of that arrangement. The manual does not address this point.  With the vast knowlede that abounds on this forum I am sure I can get confermation that this is OK.

    Thanks again,

    Eric,
Seems people get the most information out of Brett when talking to him in person.  Would that be an option for you?  I'd be all for it if you took over the jigs.

You have a one off mixer that John came up with. It was the first mixer that gave it differential flaperons with 2:1 up versus down throw. Did you get the model iv flaperons too? Your going to like the Ifa, just don't expect it to be like a constant speed prop.

Did you get the newer style flapperons, too? I don't think your old ones will be a direct bolt on without modification.

I'm not sure if the lift struts are exactly the same either...

I have not but I have not had any time to clean up the airplane and picture it up.  I may have found a place about an hour from here with hangar space next to an Avid.  I think in all honestly I'll probably still sell it though.

I don't think you will have as much nose down force from the wings as the undercambered ones had.
Your cruise should be higher with these wings, and the IFA will increase that even more.
I hope you have read all the threads about how to prevent your IFA from destroying itself.
Best wishes for "Frankie", and let us know what results you get.

    Contemplating Frankenstein
Well, I just put money down on a set of KF 4 wings. Need covering and a few repairs.  Hopefully it is the quickest way to get back in the air....... However, they are going on a KF 3 Fuselage.  Any thoughts about the downside of this monster?  I understand the KF 4 tail feathers are larger, and the mixer is different.  I believe I have a KF4 mixer.. roughly, bu not sure what other consequences might be waiting to bite me in the butt.
Since the prop was "delaminated" in my last mix up, I'll be biting on an IVO IFA.  What do you all expect my cruise will come in at?

    Hey Jon,

I'm building an Avid Magnum and I live in Pueblo West too! Small world! I'd love to see your aircraft. I'll send you a pm with my info.
I have the plastic leading edge on my uncovered wings if you want to see what it looks like. I also have a fiberglass top leading edge that comes back about a foot on my wings, I think it adds a lot of unwanted weight and the fiberglass was a bit wavy too.
I saved a pic of someone else's aluminum flapperon horn covers. I will post it here for you, but I don't know much about it, it just looked like a good idea.

    See ya,
    Ron

I would have no problem running Waterwetter, in fact I have run it in the past with my off road rig. Since we idle in place a lot on some of the nasty trails I run it was nice to have a little extra cooling factor there. I personally didn't see too much difference but I was having engine issues that started just after I started using it. After I finally lost the engine and installed a newer one I also upgraded the radiator and just never used it again since I was staying cool without spending the extra money.
I've heard great things about the product from a good friend of mine that owns a race car business in Cincinnati though. He's the one that got me on it years ago.
I say use whatever works for you, like they say, "different strokes for different folk"!

    Mark,

Thanks, that's all good information. As of now I am not planning to trailer it back from Idaho, I will fly it. But I was hoping to store it in the trailer. Just not sure until I actually get a tape measure on it what the outcome will be.

Thanks everyone, once again the knowledge shared is great!

Like I said I would love to try and Buy the jigs and patterns even at something just above scrap price at least he would make something from them, I don't understand the people that can sit on something useful rather than at least put an Honest price on it so people can attempt to keep it going, I have more time than money, so I might not be able to pay enough, but if he would give a price I could at least try, I have time that is going to waste, but a bad back that keeps me from holding a regular job, volume of business isn't a big factor for me, I can build most parts now, but to make certain they interchange I would like to purchase the jigs, maybe even work out a time payment or percentage, that way we could keep parts available and he would make some money, I hope he will at least talk to me, Even renting the stuff would be worth me while, I would travel a couple of hundred miles to be able to build a Fat Avid/ Airdale Flyer and try to sell some parts to keep it afloat. Either that or to borrow a fuselage to make a copy of the pattern from so I could duplicate the parts.
The wingtanks would take the most money to duplicate, but I built a rotomold oven in college from recycled Ovens and could build tanks with the same type of setup, the cowl would take a mold that could also be made from another persons plane, if I had access to one I could build the molds, The Airdale isn't that complicated as aircraft go, it is just a matter of having access to something more modern than a Model A to make the patterns from.

Ok, that seems to work. Here are two others, plus a model C brochure that says it is 7' 9.5" folded..

    Kenneth,
Be sure to measure the horizontal stabilizer width as well - I didn't, and taking it off and putting it back on was no fun.  I could only get a 8' wide trailer, with a 7'6" opening to bring my Model C home in.  The folded width was 94" as I recall, which was 4" wider than the door opening.  The horizontal stabilizer was the same width as the wings folded.  The left wing has nothing in it but a wingtip light and the pitot tube, so it was easy to take off - I only had to take off one wing to get it to fit.  The tail was much more trouble!  I used carpet strips screwed to the inside wall to hold it during the trip from Northern CA to central Illinois.  My trailer was 20', and it fit in with a few inches in the front, and a few inches in the back. I put a piece of 2" foam insulation on the inside front wall during the trip, both to cushion in the event it shifted and contacted the front wall, and as witness to how hard any impact was. Fortunately nothing shifted and no dents were noted in the foam when I got home.
Maybe I can attach a picture of it in the trailer.....

As an auto mechanic I used to have some information on how much pressure = what boiling temp of a 50/50 mix of coolant and water. Wish I had a clue where that was. It was significant though and obviously a pressurized system has it's downfall and far as blowing things out, but when working properly keeps this from going in directions they aren't supposed to! (rod outside of crankcases etc).
I think I'll still stick with a pressurized system for my own use, thanks!

That's some good information, thanks a ton!
Looks like it would fit in the trailer if I removed one wing. Guess I'm back to having to see if there is a hangar I can rent a corner in. Time to call the airport owner (I fly from a private field that's public use).

Of course I have no idea what the Pursang's measurements are since it's a one off custom and just lead to the Airdale and Avid + designs. Until I have a chance to actually measure it I'm on my own to figure if it will fit. My door is 98" inside to inside the frame, If I remember correctly. I need to get out and measure it again though.

I don't suppose anyone ever really saw the written take off and landing performance that is state did they? 150' is almost as short as my dad's American Eagle ultralight that only weighs 170 pounds! But his doesn't have brakes and that was at 4600' MSL on hot days.
