I don't know about the people being dead yet but I've always figured it was some sort of hijacking event. I just don't get why yet. Without any sign of a crash site, debris, etc. I don't think it went down. Couple that with the low flying aircraft over the Maldives on the day it went missing and you have a nice conspiracy to think about for a while!

I'm sure eventually it will show up, probably painted to look like something else. I'm just lacking on even a idea as to why a 777 other than maybe that's what they could get at the time?

I can tell you I will never be one of those that abandon the springs all together, at least not on this plane. I've flown others that I would okay with them being that way. This is not one of them. Since the brakes on these planes aren't the greatest to start with and the fact that I'm running 8.00x6 tires they are okay for steering on the ground but I don't want to have to rely on them when encountering a good crosswind as my only way to steer during landings. Just my opinion, I suppose those that want to put on a show and loose a couple ounces off the tail of their plane are free to do so!

Just checking in to see if we ever came up with the consensus on where the best bang for the buck is on radiators. Im looking to buy one soon as I'm planning to finally be in the air in the next couple months

Some folks are abandoning the tailwheel chains and springs altogether. They are running larger tires that would shimmy if easily steerable and are adding enough friction to stop shimmy and calling it good. The tailwheel just steers by brute force of braking and back stick pressure.

What happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight 370?
Clearly, this is a very disturbing event with so many innocent souls unaccounted for. But what about the lack of crash debris, unaccounted for Boeing 777, deviated flight path and actions of the flight crew? The information that has been cobbled together by the various investigative partners leads me to think those people were murdered and plane stolen for malicious intent. What say you?

I was just wondering about this the other day. I tightened up the springs so that they have a little compression to them and realized that the tailwheel doesn't go to full castoring as easily now. I think for the time being I like them a little tighter since it's better controllability on the ground, but I did like it going to full castor to turn around easier. I think I just need to make sure I don't have to turn around. Our field has the only taxiway exit/entrance to the runway right at about the midway point. That means I just have to be able to land in about 1200' and I'm good.

My tail ski has had a pretty rough life.   It has hit some really hard ice and frozen snow drifts; I even caught the plowed snowberm on the taxiway with it once when I was coming in to land; just a little too close coming over it.  It bent at the stop bolt early on like Leni said but I decided not to straighten it since I figured it would probably crack and it works fine with the bend in the arm and hasn't bent any further.  I had to reweld the saddle piece that rests againse the TW arm because it didn't get good weld penetraqtion there but that was no big deal and I noticed it before I lost anything.  I really like it for the performance and it keeps from burying your tail up to the HS in soft snow.  Well worth it in my opinion.

    Full scimitar prop.
Dean was fitting the spinner to the prop on his latest project today, so I shot a few pictures. With only a 40 horse cont. he is doing everything to maximize the performance that he can. For those who are not knowlegeble (including me), the idea is, as the thrust load increases the trailing tips decrease the pitch, then at cruise settings it reverts back to cruise pitch. As Dean says. This is 'experimental' is'nt it?

Ah, my mistake. I somehow thought you might have had an extra. I'm a bit leary of fleaBay though, I know some folks who received bad transponders over the years.

The spot-lights I am talking about for landing lights are the ones that Chris mentioned from VisionX, but at $119 each, I better wait for a sale!  The crazedpilot lights are only for recognition.

    Thanks Luke,
I have been to that site - bought their wigwag lights - didn't know they sold the light Leni mentioned.  Thought maybe you were talking about the hand-held spotlights.

    Leni,
I have spotted coons in neighbors yard with my million CP handheld light - about 300 or more feet, but it wasn't fully charged - If that little LED can spot at 400 feet, then I'm going to buy one to spotlight coons too!

Found it - Leni didn't post that - it Was ChrisB

I had a funny coincidence today. I saw a VERY nice looking KF parked on the ramp, and went over to check it out. I found the owner, and got to talking with him. It turns out he is Brendan, the guy that owns the company that sells these lights. Very nice guy.

I tried to find info on this for the benefit from a safety standpoint in hopes of preventing a like tragety.  Hopefully we will have the benefit of report in the near future  Appears he was a fairly new pilot and had purchased this Avid last Nov. Yes, true, seems he was a really great guy. Sad how these things are in life. I think all of us know of someone or have lost a loved one.  It causes me to wonder, gee, they were so young, contributed so much and had so much more to give. Now they are gone and you just can't get over it but you are grateful that you had them in your life's journey and try to accept that its not to you to judge how long a life should be lived. My condolences.

Ed, we think a lot alike. This is where my search started was with high intensity handheld spot lights. I found one I really like but have an issue taking a $70 light that's brand new and pulling it apart. Trust me it's crossed my mind and I might still go that route. I'm sure I could do fine with just one light that way too.

I know the advantage of having a full alternator are great for lighting and other energy, but I still want to keep it very light weight.

One thought I was contemplating is making my own focused lens out of fiberglass with a good quality chrome paint as the reflector. That way I could make it shaped like I want, deep and very focused out the front and still put in the really high intensity LED lights so that it doesn't weigh hardly anything and also won't burn out bulbs. That's one of my main considerations for the LED as well as weight. I know typical landing light longevity is not real good, the vibration from the airframe when they are on really wears on them quickly.

Doug, Ed is correct. This ad was posted as a wanted ad to start with. I just ended up having one I used instead of having to buy one. Good luck with your search. If I run across one I'll let you know. Any idea what you're looking for?
