Hopefully, Lostman will take this fuselage and make a longer, better, bird to fly in.   Maybe better to build a new plane than try to repair the old one.  This one is more the size of the Highlander, but could be lightened up a bit.
I keep wondering how that Teeny Two would look with huge bushtires, and skipping water to land on sandbars!
    Leni,
The news this morning says 200,000 acres now burning there - same old story - too little, too late with responses.

    CONGRATS!

That thing is going to rip! Nice looking bird. Expect 90-100 MPH @ 3.5 GPH burn.

    A couple questions:

Have you installed a doubler in the nose fork tube? Very important with bigger engine! You don't want it to buckle.

What is your empty CG? Did you have to put weight in the tail, the battery or both? Curious how much the plane weighs and how much weight you had to add if you did.

Temperature management may be an issue. If it is, restricting airflow into the two cheek holes will pull more flow through the oil and water radiators. Every 912 install I have seen in an Avid has needed some restriction in the cheek holes. In cold times restriction may be needed in front of the oil/water hole such as placing some tape over a portion of the radiators. I've even seen a very clever cowl flap in front of the radiators.

Would love to see some under cowl photos!

Once you get it dialed in the 912 makes the Avid the perfect plane. You are really going to enjoy it! It's a KEEPER!

Yes, we've got several Kitfoxes, Avids and a Avid C/Kitfox Hybrid - The white plane parked next to mine in the first photo.

Hey guys, those are great pictures. My favorites are the rocks along the rivers. Looks like so much fun. Of course if I tried some of that stuff, I'd probably turn the plane into a ball of scrap Keep the pictures like these coming. I for one really like to see them.

    Thanks,

Nice pictures Larry. Looks like fun. Glad to hear you got everything sorted out. From the first picture, it looks like there are a few Kitfoxes at your chapter.

It was an experiment to see how this would download to Leni's site.

I'll try and see how it downloads to YouTube later...

Ms. Muffet's sure an attractive gal.  I like the short format and the iPhone did a great job.  Kind of a pain to download the file to watch though.  Do you have a button to upload to YouTube?

Fire is almost 200,000 acres. I spent a few days helping move current and ex inlaws stuff from funny river and kasilof. Sterling area is on evacuation alert as of yesterday. Just woke up to light rain so hoping that will help then get it under control. My house is not in danger, and so far, no structures have been lost.

Ed, do you have a story on an avid or a kitfox that has had an inflight wing failure?

    Funny River Fire
    Leni,
Is the fire close to you?   Isnt Funny River North of the Kenai highway?  Big Sky Lodge is at Moose River and Kenai River junction - don't think it is close to there - are they getting it under control?

    Jim,
You really got my attention on that - I always thought the opposite:  That the rear spar carried more weight - and wings have failed in a DOWN direction at the front -
Dang, got to get out the books on this one - back to school again!
Too bad the guy with the torch didn't just hit the glue on the outside - that would have taken a lot less heat than trying to get the tube hot from the inside!    I wouldn't fly it "as is" - an insert or new spar would make me more comfortable.
It is not too hard to replace one spar - just cut chunks of spar tube out between ribs and use a heat gun to melt glue and slide the short pieces out.

If it helps any, I was told that the front spar carries more weight on a plane than the rear one.  Don't take my word for it, but look it up if you can.  If it's true, that might alleviate  some of the worry.  Jim Chuk

I miss flying biplanes! I have around 400 hours in Waco's, very fun machines and there is something so cool about a big round engine up front.

Leni, I'm not sure if it's rebuildable yet. I still need to uncover everything and see what I have left. Basically from what I can tell right now I have a good engine (minus a distributor), maybe a good left wing, good right gear, wing struts are undamaged and tailwheel is okay. Otherwise the instruments are also okay but the panel was even broken when the cabin broke up on impact.

Looks like the motor mount may be okay but I need to strip it clean and inspect it too. Not sure if it was damaged or not. I'm going to be looking seriously at the fuselage Edmo has and see if it's a viable fix or not. Really unsure where I'm at with things.

Thank you so much for writing the story.  I wanted to leave a nice comment, but didn't want to log on another site.
So glad that both of you walked away because of Kenneth's flying skills.
Now - Kenneth - Come and get this fuselage and lets get that NEW bird built.

I don't see the heat being a big issue. If he didn't smoke the glue, only enough to soften it up, I wouldn't loose too much sleep.

Are you going to rebuild it? That would be awesome if it saw the air again one day!

    Kenneth,
Excellent writing, and again, very happy you both are ok. I didn't know your wife was a writer, but her books look like the kind I read most of the time. I'll be buying one shortly!

Another great trip report from you two. Making me very jealous right now as I don't have an Avid to fly....

I need to get the Teenie Two back out of the garage so I can fly and have a place to work on the Avid again too.

The end of the Pursang, an accident account.
I know it's been a while since I've posted much on here. Most of you know at least a little about what happened to my wife and I on our last flight just over a month and a half ago. Here is a good description for those that want to know much more about the "fun" we had. The accident has been a not so gentle reminder that none of us know when it will be our time to leave this earth, or by what means. I've lived through a lot of things in my life, this was my third engine out landing off field in 4.5 years.

My wife is an author and this is on her webpage. Please read it and we'd love for you to read her other books as well. This is a short but comprehensive blog post about the events that day, from her perspective.
