    tcj, Nice Bird,
Are those long pins a commercial item? Or, did you just cut the end off of a 5/16 bolt? I have been looking for long eye-bolts with the small eye, but cant find them that long.

Now Leni's torn the wings off the 180 to "paint" it.  He might as well sell the planes and buy a horse, 'cause he's never gonna fly again...

These are 3/4" metal electrical conduit.  You can make two from a 10 foot stick.

I would use the oil line size recommended by Rotax and configure the tank as shown in the rebuild or installation manual for inverted operation. There is a copy of the rebuild manual on this site.

It is very important to bleed all air out as described by others here. I found the easiest way to accomplish this was to loosen the bleed screw but not remove it. Eventually ALL of the air will exit past the threads and oil will very slowly creep around the threads. That way you can do other tasks while the air is bleeding off and it win't make a huge mess. Just place a towl around the bleed screw to collect the small amount of oil that works its way around the threads and starts slowly dripping once all the air is gone.

You might be able to rig the system differently and it work just fine, but I figure the rotax engineers gave it more thought than me and probably took things into account I might not consider.

Nice, bet there is nothing better than landing at your own strip the first time!

My 180 is looking sad.. Pulled the wings off her yesterday morning to start the strip / repaint process.  hoping to have her back in the air in a few months.

    Width of landing gear
I would like a quick answer concerning the width of my Avid mk 4.
I'm building a trailer and need to know the width of both standard and wide gear.
My plane is not in front of me to get the measurements.

My fuselage was built for the 2-cycle Rotax, and after I found the Soob I modified my fuselage to fit it - now I have a choice of either mount fitting the firewall, but I modified my fuselage to make a flat firewall.

Ed, I have a Lyc O320 with dynafocal mount. I have a mount from the Cherokee it came from but the magnum mount design is quite different than just about anything else. There's a guy in the midwest that has a conical mount but he won't get back to me. Oh well, like everything else in the building process I'll just deal with it! I have a couple Magnums in the area to get measurments from plus Ron (member) has forwarded a drawing with dimensions. Still would rather find one built though! Thanks

I think that vent screw was designed with a plugs up engine install in mind.  Also, on the 532 engine, the vent screw is not there.  I'm not saying don't use the screw, but when I tried just using it with the bottle full, I still had air in there.  (with an inverted engine)   Jim Chuk

There is a vent screw of that oil circuit to the side opposite to the oild pump. When you fill the oil circuit you are supposed to loosen this screw and let trapped air escape.  Juan

I don't think I would mess with smaller lines, that gives you a much greater chance on getting an air bubble trapped. When I rebuilt my engine, I bled the heck out of it and still got air trapped in it. 15 minutes into the break in, the brass gear stripped thanks to the air bubble. I would just live with the bigger lines and stock tank. Rotax made it that way for a reason. Cool Temps = thick oil and easy to trap air.

Cripes, I'm gonna have to move out of ak if I want snow... it's been raining and warmer here than in Louisiana.

Great pics Joey, looks like an awesome day of flying!

    Scott,
What engine are you going to use? I found it was easier to use a mount that came with my Soob that was on a Pelican and modify my firewall to bolt up to it - maybe there is a stock mount for your engine that you can use?

    Great morning of flying
Well since half the country is getting snowed on and single digit temps I thought I would post these to let you all know that were still enjoying amazing flying weather out here in Central CA. Spent some time with my buddy in his 170 this morning playing on the edge of a lake. We had about 8 kts of wind off the nose which made for some super short landings. The 170 has a utility interior and the Wing X STOL kit but the engine is stock. I can get out just a little bit shorter than him but he can land just as short or shorter than I can. Rob is an amazing stick and wears his plane...that always helps too.

    Hard Hunted
I have a magazine article on the Avid Flyer from years ago, and the author talks about doing some flying for a low budget action movie titled "Hard Hunted". Well, the film is on youtube, but dubbed into another language. Something tells me that the plot will still be pretty easy to follow.

I haven't watched the whole thing, I just scrolled through on the preview looking for an Avid. It makes an appearance at the 48:13 mark, and again at the 1:02:50 mark. It may be in there elsewhere, but those are the two scenes that I saw.

    Engine mount
Hi guys! Newbie here. Been working on a Magnum kit I aquired a couple years ago. Came with most everything I need except the engine mount. I've read in another thread that Bret does not have the Magnum jigs and tooling. Anyone know where they went or who has access to them? I'm really not looking forward to fabing one myself. Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Scott
