I found that I was unable to get the tailwheel to release during normal operations from the cockpit due to the Avid's limited rudder swing.  This 25 degree plate (cam) solved the issue.  Try it the way it comes and get used to the handling and then decide if you need to make the change.

Great choice, I really like mine.  Several of us have order and are using the other cams that help with the release.

The hangers should be available from Kitfox - or you can make them.

What did you think of the performance difference on wheels?  I actually climb better and cruise faster on the 1320 floats than I do on 30" airstreaks... I know, 30" are a bit of overkill, but I do like the way they soak up the big rocks and soft sand

As I told TJay, I think this plane would be great with a HKS engine in it. Great fuel economy, should be good performance if it's built light. I saw an HKS on ebay with 78 hrs that didn't get any bids with an opening bid of $6500. Jim Chuk

Congrats!  A good buddy has a mod I I have some time in and I have a few hundred hours in a mod II.  I LOVE how light they are on the controls and how they fly, pure fun if your into low and slow.  Do yourself a favor and don't try to mod it into something that its not.  I would make an extended baggage just for a place to toss in the tent and sleeping bag if thats the kind of thing your into, and as you said, perhaps the lower carry through, but other than that, build it light and pure and have countless hours of fun low and slow with it.

I have the Matco WHLT-8W.  It is the wide version of the 8" pneumatic and I really like it for the money.  The dual fork would be nice if your really going to be beating it on big rocks etc. but for normal gravel and sand beaches etc. it works really well.  Night and day from the 6" narrow pneumatic I had on there before, and that one was a 100% improvement over the 6" Maule that it came with.

For 250 bucks, the 8" wide is tough to beat for these planes.

These http://www.extremetacticaldynamics.com/catalog/led-hideaway-p-93.htmlare still a bit pricey but a lot cheaper than the "aircraft" ones. Still looking for pictures of how others have mounted and fared them in

I haven't totally decided on the valve setup for the heater core.  I have a remote cable operated valve that came off the plane, but it's heavy and clunky.  I may replace this with a simple plane valve operated from under the cowl.

The 912 has no OEM prevision for a thermostat in the cooling or oil systems.

I have a water shut-off valve for mine - operated by push-pull cable.   Does the Rotax have its own thermo in addition to the one for the heater?

I'm planning a ball valve also in the right side leg of the heater line, where I have a longer line and room to place it. This will help open the thermostat in the warmer times of the year.

Yes there's a small weep hole in it.

Does the thermostat have a weep hole to give some circulation when it's closed? I'm trying to understand how it will function with the long dead leg to heat in order to open.

Housing and thermostat came from Highwing LLC.  180º.

I have it positioned so that water constantly can go through the heater core, but the thermostat keeps it from the belly radiator.

    Larry,
Where did you get the thermostat housing, and what temperature is it? is it set for the engine or for the heater?

    Welcome TJay,
I've got a fuselage hanging from the ceiling of my shop that looks just like that one.  Building another one tho.  You will definitely want to beef-up that gear attach area, IMO.

Here's some plumbing fab work that got done today.  I'm trying to maximize the amount of hard piping rather than hose in the coolant system.  We pieced several pipes together and also welded in nipples for the heater hoses to the heater core.

Here's the left (pilot) side piping.

A lower view, showing the thermostat housing.

Here's the right side.  I'm not quite done with this one, yet.  I want to shorten the hose to the water pump more...

    scooped up a kitfox 1
Hey guys just wanted to introduce my self and tell you I bought a kitfox 1. It looks to be an untouched kit, just got it in the garage today, I'm excited to start on it. bought it from Jim, nice guy and want to say thanks, not sure how much customizing I will do to this one, thinking about keeping it simple for once. Maybe some small stuff would like to beef up the lower carry thru, I guess, well that's all I got for tonight Ill post progress later.
