My old mount is one large aluminum plate with 4 bushing holes in it.  (I think - Havent looked at it for a long time.)

If you look at more of the later model Kitfoxes, I think you will find that they enlarged and thickened the cross tubes - I have a drawing of an enlarged rear spar cutout for the Kitfox 5 that is larger than a Kitfox 1 cutout - a necessary modification for folding the wings-
If I remember right, my little vertical mount tubes were about .380" high from the cross tube, and about 2.125" long. But yours may be higher, since I went to a larger diameter and heavier wall cross tubes. Aiming for 1320 GW, I also am making 1" diameter x .058 wall struts, although Kitfox uses .049 wall.

Most of the comments I have heard from the TD drivers indicate that the Matco 8" tailwheel is most liked - Why don't you compare the cost of a new spring with the cost of a new tailwheel - And again, I don't know if it comes with a spring - I like nose-draggers!

Nothing serious..I hope...with the engine.  It runs like a top and the EGTs are behaving but the rear crank seal is giving signs of leaking.  I noticed a little oil on the bottom of the crankcase a while back.  I wiped it clean and watched for it to return.  It did.  It only has 136 hours on it but its been 14 years sense it had new seals.

Thanks Bandit.  I was wondering about using a bolt instead of the swedge.

Probably not and it would probably never break, I looked over a kitfox 4 1050 a while back and noticed our rear spar carry throu is exactly the same but his front one is way thicker, thought must be a reason for it, now mine is a little smaller tubing but a bit thicker. It figures up to .801 lbs for a 3 foot piece, aint bad, this way when I load her up to 1000 lbs its one less area I need to stair at the whole flight.

I think I have all the things I need. 2 plates of aluminum 1 is about 2 inches wide and one is about 3 inches wide and all the rubber mounts. just dont have any pics or instructions of how it should look in the end.

My question is whether there is any lack or shortage of strength in the original bushine/tube design that justifies the added strength? It looks like a great idea, and will definitely be stronger, but is this fixing some known problem?

Yes the mounting is the same on the 532 as the 582.

Ed and Jim thanks for the info on the brakes I will change them out and modify the pedals. I know these brakes are not that great my dad has a KF2 with the same setup. Also I'm going to order a new tail wheel leaf spring from kitfox they have 2 choices does any advice on which would work best on my mk4 thanks rusty

I think I may have an extra one for sale cheap - If the 532 is same as 582 - but guessing that you must have the same old bottom mount - Didn't know that there was a "side mount".

I am one of those who like the plastic leading edge that Kitfox sells - It protects your spar from bumps - guess it helps streamline a little bit too.

If you do a search using Lee Dubay , you will find a sketch I posted a while back on an aluminum leading edge. Might give some ideas. Jim Chuk

Real important that the rear bushings/tubes are in line with the bottom lift strut attachment.  Otherwise it will bind when you try to fold the wings.  Basicly they act as two hinges to fold the wing. I have to give you another atta boy TJay, you really are moving right along on that plane.  It's good to see.  Take care,  Jim Chuk

PS I was thinking you doubled up both front and back carry thru tubes when I mentioned getting the rear bushings in line with the bottom lift strut attachment... never mind!

    Sweet progress pics!

Tom, looks like a serious condition inspection. Hope your not having any engine issues to bring on an engine off inspection.

Have you measured the little mount tubes? Just make sure that the upper part extends the same on all 4 of them - You may find that the originals are a little long on the bottom end since they were made for .065 spars - after you get the steel inserts into your spars, you can measure the ID and know how long to make the little tubes and grind the bottom ends if need be. Hope this is clear - sometimes I wonder what I am saying!

    Randy -

Thanks for posting this. It will prove helpful at least to me as I wrap up on my nearly finished project.

I find Google a useful tool for searching out particular info on various forums.

Try it if you haven't already. In this topics case for eg. type in the following into the google search block:  site:www.avidfoxflyers.com IVO prop

BTW, I've had good luck using a scanner phone app to copy docs and create pdf files. Jotnot has worked well for me -- essentially creates a pdf file instead of a jpeg which is far more manageable/readable for docs. Even though my iphone 4 is ancient, I've found all sorts of great uses for it such as a copy/scanner.

I had the same trouble with my injection pump. I ran it around 700hrs like that and had nothing but trouble. I cut a AN bolt and used that instead of the swedge. That worked much better, but it still wore through. Welded a washer on each side of the pump arm which did help. The vibration is so bad it kept wearing through.Finaly ended up taking the pump off and started to mix my gas.

cut off old bushings and drilled out, slid in .035 chrome-alley tube glued while sliding it in to stop any chance of small vibration, will drill and weld in new bushings tomorrow. less than 2 hrs of work and double the strength.

I did some more thinking about this and now have the engine out on the bench where I can see the pump better.  I think I may have had CPS make the inner cable too short.   To get enough slack for the marks to line up at Idle I had to set it up with both lock nuts on the cable adjuster on the bottom side of the mounting plate.  At full throttle the cable is pulling sideways on the pump arm instead of vertically.

I also remember thinking the mounting plate was bent so I straightened it out.  Now I think it was supposed to be bent to have a straight pull on the pump lever.  The first two photos show how I had it set up at Idle and full throttle.  The third is how I think it will work better.  I am going to take the engine over to Arlington to have it decarbonized and resealed next week.  I'll ask him about it.  What does anybody think about my theory?

Nice pictures guys. I guess I haven't really contributed too much lately as far as interesting updates. I've been side tracked on some other projects. Hope to get back at it soon. I did a fair amount of welding on my lower spar carry through a few weeks back. I'll try to post some pics of that when I get home.

Thanks Jbird and tcj for sharing!

503 Rotax oil pump cable end wearing
This 503 came from the factory without oil injection.  At 80 hours I installed an injection system.  The engine now has 136 hours so only 56 hours on this cable.  You can see it is worh about 1/4 of the way through the barrel swedge on both ends where it contacts the oil pump lever. I had the cable made by California Power Sports.  I have lubed it with LPS about every 10 hours.  Whats going on?

I really like the convenience of the injection and it is supposed to be better for the engine but this is no good.
