Kffan, you gotta remember we have a lot of the older crowd in here with the attention span of my wife... or maybe my 19 month old daughter we are easily amused and we never, ever, EVER pass up an opportunity to flip Ed some shit about his training wheel.. I think it's on page 2 of the guy code

Yes. There are a couple of tail dragger conversion STCs, I believe. Bill is attempting to offer a better mouse trap.

    Float recall 912
If anyone has an engine built since 2012 or if you have replaced your floats the new floats are defective. They absorb fuel and then cause the engine to run rich/rough on the low end. On mine one bank was worse than the other causing the engine to run very rough and shake at idle but this happened over time. You can order new replacement floats (currently back ordered ) and return the defective ones for credit.

cruise at 150 to 200 knots and stall at 35 knots? sounds almost to good to be true.

I have some friends here in Sweden that are building a new aircraft and as far as I heard; wing tips are only a tangible advantage; when you are flying more than 200kt or 10000ft and above; somewhere there can´t recall the exact numbers, basically top end airplanes and airliners are really making use of these advantage. Rest is just cosmetic.

Their original design didn´t have wing tips because it wasn´t necessary, but they got hold of a Rotax turbo engine 150Hp and the airplane performs just within that range, now the plane is suited with wing tips.

Thanks for the discussion.  I like the look of the stock Avid tips so at this point plan to use them on my new wings.  The Avid tips are better than 12" addition to the length of the wing each side.  I plan to use 1/2" washout like the later KF and Magnums.  Wondering if the added length of the Avid tip vs a short Hoerner or flat end makes any difference with the lessened washout???

This is not a great picture but what is that on the end?  I figured there must already be an STC to convert a 172 to a TD.

    Hey Leni,

I'm bummed we didn't get together the last turn around; let me know the next oneThe weather is geting kind of crazy warm now.  Not sure when you get back home again but have someone keep an eye on the lake if it is very long.  I landed on some of the lakes around Big Lake and the snow was still hard so wheels were fine.  I heard that Fish Lakes was even OK for wheels last weekend.

Are you planning to put the 30's on the new wheels?  Jack picked up a set of the new model AK Bushwheel Airstreaks in 26" so I had a chance to fly it with the 26" Goodyears and the 26" Airstreaks.  Even on the gravel and grass, the Airstreaks are a lot smoother.

Probably will cost about the same: To make an adapter, or, to order a new hub from IVO or Warp.
    Thanks,

    Hi Ed,
Wanted to let you know early 912 bolt patterns or drive lugs are slightly different than newer versions. I found both patterns on the net
When I needed them. BTW. Powerfin doesn't make a hub for early 912 engines.

When you take it to your welder,if it's stainless, make sure he can purge the inside with argon while welding. Or he can use a shielding "flux" inside the tube to prevent sugaring. If you don't the outside will look nice but the inside looks like crap and will likely break. My 2 cents

Lots of good info can be found on product manufacturer's websites. For example, check out the Technical Resources FAQ's at Curbell Plastics: http://www.curbellplastics.com/technical-resources/literature-technical-documents.html

My buddy called me this morning asking about sealer for Lexan - All I could tell him was that Spruce or Wicks has a "sealer for plexiglass", and RTV#732 in clear, white or Black, for sale. I don't know what sealers are safe to use with Lexan, but have heard that you should not use certain ones. Maybe not the ones that smell like vinegar?
    Anyone have info on this?

@TJay that looks great! Good idea using the roller.
@Travis, thanks I was using those interchangeably and they really aren't
@ Doug, that is a great idea using shop lights! They do get really hot and pretty evenly.
@ Ed, I was told that if you cold bend polycarbonate it causes small fractures that eventually will turn into large cracks after heated and cooled in the weather. He told me that, after looking at my 20 year old polycarbonate cold bent doors that didn't have one crack showing, so take that with a grain of salt! I think it is all a bunch of whooeee! Bend it...as long as you don't crack it or break it, whatever works for you. It's not like these are critical structures in our planes! As long as I don't have a crack going right through my line of site, I'll call it good...

Does anyone have a drawing, with dimensions, bolt circle radius, threads, boss, etc., of a 912 crank adapter?

AND, I guess this is different than the 582 prop hub?

We cold-bent Lexan to 90 degrees in Aviation school - probably about 1/4" radius, took a lot of pressure.
I used a heat gun to bend some for my boat windsheilds, and got some small bubbles in one bends - guess it was too hot? Didn't ruin it tho.
I was told that after Lexan is heated, that it will crack like Plexi if you try to cold-bend - I cant verify this as I have never tried that.

Sorry we couldn't make the Pueblo trip Doug - I have been there.
We have been wanting an all-expense-paid Colorado vacation, but getting too old for a trip in a rented U-Haul truck. My wife still has nightmares about the last two trips from Alaska pulling a trailer.
And our Grand-Hotel bill would have given you heart failure!

Once he had two offers for rib patterns, it seemed boring I guess, so we pick on each other?

Couldn't arrange shipping and I sure as hell didn't feel like driving 3500mi./50hrs to go get it. No to mention my schedule just wouldn't allow it. I tried to bribe EDMO and a couple others who live between me and Pueblo to go grab and hold it till Airventure for me. Diverting to pick it up from them on the way to/from OSH would have cut the trip in half and made it feasible. Really would have like to score that kit, good deals like that are far and few between east of the Mississippi.
