There is almost a faith-war between nosewheel and tailwheel. BUT the Avid sees as tailwheel simply look better.

And I will learn to flight a tailwheel. So the Avid is the right choice.

Nosewheel really is easier but who wants easy. I any case Fun.

McFarlane makes the best cable on the market these days, IMO.  They aren't cheap, but unlike the rest they are very well made and dependable.

    Cable operated enrichers (choke) 582
Those of you with cable operated enrichers, what cable systems are you using to control them?  I have the enrichers that will accept a swege but I dont want spaghetti in terms of operating them.

    any updates?

I recently had and issue where a slow water leak at a fitting going into the radiator allowed air into the system and an air bubble got stuck, upon taxing up to the runway the temp gauge came up real quick stem started to blow and well lets just say it was an exciting mess and I'm glad it happened before takeoff. long story short I had to pull the small plug that goes into the water pump housing removed the fill cap and after filling as much would go in I picked the tail up in the air as high as I could get it shook it a couple times and set it back down. after doing this process a couple times and starting the engine with the plug and cap still off eventually the air burped out and water started coming out of the water pump port. I plugged it back up filled it once again and all has been good ever since. this plug can be replaced with a small hose barb and plumbed back to the fill neck. If anyone has a part number for that little fitting I would sure love to know what it is. I've seen them installed on a friends Avid but have not been able to find the right barb anywhere.

Thanks guys, I found it in my Leading Edge catalog, and also looked it up online. $80 for the new one. Might put it on the Avid/jabiru when I get it back up and running.... Jim Chuk

I saw a post, somewhere, not long ago about oil coolers and thermostats. I believe it was relavent to a 912 engine. There was mention of the routing path you have described. Hopefully a synapse will fire sooner or later for me....

I have two grandsons. One is 4 and the other just shy of four. I would not take the 4 year old with me. I would take the younger one flying in a heartbeat. He is the oldest of two children in the family. The older one is the 3rd child in the family. It all pivots on maturity and if you can trust them to do/not do as they are told. MHO

    What is this?
Hi all, I bought some stuff on ebay last week, mostly I was after the Jabiru Bing carb in the pile of stuff. Anyway, I was going through the rest of the stuff today, and got looking at this part. I imagine it's an oil cooler thermostat, cause markings on it say supply oil, to oil cooler, from oil cooler, to engine. (or something close to that) Anyways, does anyone recognize it? There are no casting part # or other permanent markings. Thanks, Jim Chuk

I'll take a look at the Mangy motor when I get over to Dave's tomorrow and see about some dimensions.

    912 PROP MOUNTING
Does anyone have a diagram of the 912 Warp Drive Prop flange or adapter?
    Drive Lugs?
    Dimensions?
I know that there was a change at one time - either one will do for now.
Does it use Six 8mm bolts and drive lugs?
How thick is your crank flange? Center boss?

Being a radio operator, we used to run our trucks all night - Nothing better in the middle of the night, than a can of rations that had been sitting on the hot exhaust manifold for a few minutes! Germany 1960-62.
I was a toolmaker/machinist most of my life - Until I finally retired and became an A&P Amateur Builder.
One of the guys I used to work with in St. Louis said that he made dies to stamp out the P38s. I never asked him what company he worked for. We both worked for McDonnell Aircraft which was bought by Boeing. McDonnell had bought out the Curtis Aircraft company that he had worked for here in St. Louis.

I was cleaning out the back porch of my Mother's house last year and ran across my old mess kit.  These would be from the 60s.  Thats the last time I ate a C-rat.

    Hey all -

Some of you know I have been involved with many W.A.S.P. recognition projects. Sad fact is, we are losing the very last of our early war veterans and it is more important than ever to preserve their stories for future generations who benefitted from their service. FYI, there is a similar project in the works to highlight the lives and stories of America's Fighter Aces. I found this blurb on the EAA website and thought I'd share in case you wish to contribute to their Kickstarter campaign HERE

The one at big lake has a 582 in it. I looked it over pretty well when I was up there a few years ago after the helicopter dropped me off and I was waiting for a ride

There is an early model s-7 out at Big Lake with a 2 stroke rotax in it; I did not looked at it close enough to see which motor.  They progressively changed the S-7 over time and this one is noticeably shorter than the new model, and probably much lighter.

I love the minimalist aproach to outfitting these birds but I have to admit that having the electric trim and the ivo prop with the Ray Allen stick grip and all the switches on the grip is sure nice.  You get so you tweak the switches almost subconciously; just little bumps here and there to get it to hands off flight and rpm.  It is sort of like the difference in driving a 1970 all manual pickup vs a newer one with power everything.  Each one has its own charm.

Thanks for starting this Joey.  My grandson is two now and I am trying to figure out about what age is appropriate to take him flying.  I sat him in the plane last night when I got back to the hangar; he wanted to be strapped in and he was having a blast moving the stick around.  Just need to be sure he is old enough to know when not to touch stuff and I want him to enjoy it and not be scared.

$400 to ride on the B25 for an hour at my field. That's about the same as they charge for a short flight on the Aluminum Overcast.
