I sent you a PM with a spreadsheet attached that I wrote that will make it easy to do the WB.  And yes the only WB that are of a concern are the loaded numbers because the plane does not fly without pilot and at least some fuel to get airborn.

Good information.  I have the 1/2 inch clearance as required but you know me I like to over engineer.  The two water pipes (belly radiator)  on each side of the firewall that are close to the exhaust I plan to wrap them rather than the exhaust pipes.

On the muffler I can put part of an insulation blanket on the front and back to protect the fiberglass and firewall.  This should work.

    Thanks again for the information.

It doesn't matter what size tire you have on - the weight line is from the center of the axle - only the weight of the tire changes with size.  The only time you are concerned with tires is when you change sizes and the weight changes.
    EDMO
Drop a line from the leading edge of the wing and measure to the center of the axle to get this measurement -
probably, It will be the same as your drawing if this drawing is for the same kind of plane.
Each model of plane has the CG range figured for that particular plane - they are not all the same.

    Wt and Balance help needed
My friend has a Skyraider single place similar to what I have been working at. We have not been able to locate any info on how to correctly balance these planes. He will fly way before I get to. So this is ALL the info we have. Not much good for us. Any help will be greatly appreciated. We have 17" tires so the negative moment is -8.5" from LE datum. We tend to think this is loaded ready for flight measurements for correct CG.

Would this be different than the factor plate (or what I think is an antenna plate)?  I have 2, OEM install, one on top, just aft of the turtle deck and one on the bottom just aft of the cockpit on the pilots side.

One of the electronic gurus advocated putting a copper or aluminum foil of "proper diameter" under the fabric, but this could probably be done with 4 squares of that material making a cross, as long as each is grounded to the mount and antennae.

I agree with what you said Ron - I just suggested a heat shield as an alternative - some have put the aluminum heat shields inside the fiberglass cowling to protect it too.
If this was a 4-cycle, I would mention burned exhaust valves with wrapped headers...

I've researched this on another project and I've talked to Jon about it.
Ed, you are right in that people say it will cause your pipes to break down faster than normal, but there are a couple of things to think about...
How much faster? Well, all I know is that Car guys aren't constantly burning through headers, but they are also not full throttle all the time.
Stainless Steel exhaust vs normal car exhaust steel? We use stainless in aircraft for the extra durability. So wouldn't it breakdown slower?

I don't have any exact information for those questions, but if you are having trouble finding room in your cowling and are risking melting your cowling or vapor lock issues, why not wrap your exhaust? So what if you will have to change the exhaust sooner, it is better than melting a cowling or flaming out...right?

I think the argument will be that if you rig it right you don't need the wrap.
Can anyone tell Jon what the proper clearance should be or give him pics of your exhaust setup?

    Thanks,
    Ron

Looking at your cowl, the holes in the front look a lot smaller than my cowl - think maybe that has something to do with it?  I don't have a photo, but go to Kitfox site and look at some of them.

    Jim,
I thought I had a bargain getting a digital scale from Harbor Freight for $25 - but it works great - 4 AA batteries lasted a long time, and it zeros after I put my mixing cup on it, so don't have to do any math.
I got two engine stands (automotive type) today to use for rotating wings and fuselage when the time comes - paid $49 each as member of inside track club - would have been $59 on sale - so I got $20 saving off of my $30 membership fee back.

I have some that's dated 2009. That's well past it's shelf life. It's kind of grainy, and I didn't think it was any good, but mixed some up for the fun of it, and glued a few sticks together. It seemed to be plenty strong, although I wouldn't use it on a structural part. I also have some 25 year old scotch weld 2216, and it looks as good as new, and I've used it on all sorts of things that didn't really matter a whole lot. I even glued the side rails on to a radiator in a International 4900 truck. Last I knew, it was still holding. I did buy new scotch weld when I started the latest airplane repair. It's a bit cheaper than the hysol, and I liked the way the last stuff lasted so long. It's what Kitfox used to supply with their kits. 2 to 3 mix by volume or 5 to 7 mix by weight, so it's harder to get the right ratio. I bought a small postal scale for about 12 bucks on ebay and it's easy to add the right amounts into a plastic cup on the scale. Jim Chuk

    dried-up 9460 WHITE PART
    dHolly,
I had cans of a small amount of outdated 9460, and the white part was almost solid -
I took your advice and put about 20 grams of it into a glass bowl and heated in microwave for about 10 seconds - the stuff got slightly warm, but not melted.
I mixed it with an equal part of the black and glued some non-aircraft parts with it.
Normally, I do my mixing in a plastic container, and the glue will just peal out of it after it sets for a day or more.
Two days later, I tried to get the rest of the glue out of the glass bowl I had borrowed from my wife - even with breaking the bowl, the glue would not come unstuck, and was really hard.
I would not be afraid to use this in a plane on some non-critical part - and actually think it would be as safe as the new stuff to use on any part.
So - don't throw your 9460 away if the white part is hardened - you can still use it.
         Thanks for the info Doug,

Oh, I see your post now - Just a comment - Not on this particular plane - Sorry,  ED

I love the flown often comment on experimentals. The ad usually goes. First flown in 1997. Flown often so times will change. 122 hrs TT. So often is 7 hrs a year huh... At least they try.
