Getting ready to install all the cam locks in my cowl, Do you guys just rivet the cam lock into the fiberglass or do you rivet through an aluminum strip.

Mine were all done through an aluminum strip but I have seen some done just through the fiberglass.

Sound like the upper round to lower round in the front?  Mine are riveted (female portions) directly through the fiberglass.  No problems to report.

I don't think TJay is using a standard Kitfox cowl.  He is putting a Jabiru engine in his plane, and I know his kit came with an early cowl before they went to the round style.  Jim Chuk

FWIW, my Merlin GT (Avid derivative) has the female part of the camlock riveted directly to the glass, and the male part stuck through a hole in the glass. No added reinforcement. 500 or so hours, no problems that I am aware of.

Both my KF were to fiberglass only. Aeropro has backer strip on receptacle side only.
