I thought I had corrected this a long time ago, but if anyone copies this design, make sure you put a stop to limit travel on top and bottom.  It will get your attention if it jambs against the seat truss because you pushed it to far.

This is what I did on my Avid Flyer.  Fortunatly, my Kitfox has a large pipe fitting on the upper side to screw the float switch into, so the little tank wasn't needed.  JImChuk

On my Avid Flyer, I had a factory supplied bowden cable going back to the trim tab.  A short lever in front of the seat truss moved the cable back and forth.  Friction on a leather washer on the lever keeps the lever where you set it.  Only time I had flutter of the trim tab is when the cable broke.  That got my attention I'll tell you.   I'll have to double check, but I think the vernier throttle would lock the cable from moving back or forth when the button is not pushed in.  In my digging around, I found this longer throttle cable for a pretty good price.  It would be nicer perhaps to have it mounted up next to the throttle so you can see better what you are doing when you adjust it.  JImChuk

That has to be a low fuel warning system.  I've built several much like this and have one on my Avid Flyer.  My Kitfox had a 1/2" NPT nipple on the side of the header tank near the top, so I put a low fuel switch in there.  Both of them work well.  JImChuk

Sorry, no.  Not a magnum wing rib.  Standard Avid undercambered rib.  Is there a difference?  JImChuk

I posted this same video on Team Kitfox, and mentioned the flutter comment.  One guy said he had this same system on a different type plane and flew it to 150 MPH and had no problems with flutter.  He said he actually used a throttle cable from a road grader that was 14' long, it used the same mechanism as the vernier.  That reminded me, I have a long new one that came from a big truck.  Maybe it will be long enough by itself as well.  I'm sure that if the tab is to wobbly, flutter could happen.  JImChuk

I wonder why it would be any different from other methods, like the lever Avid used for trim?

    Another neat trim idea
Hi all, it's not my idea, but I like it.  I think I will do it on my next plane.  The elevator is covered and it doesn't have a trim tab built in.  I really like the adjustment feature.  Lot of these vernier cables laying around to.  JImChuk

  15. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic Avid STOL, how slow can an avid land?

My Avid MK IV stalls at 42 MPH at gross weight of 1150.  Suppose touchdown would be about 40 in a full stall landing.  Cub or 701 will be slower, but lots of late model (heavier) Kitfox off field flying with you  tube videos to prove it.  Huge part of the equasion is pilot skill

When I was flying my Himax (wood aircraft) I put it though lots of 'hard' landings.  It stood up to them all.  Actually, Wayne Ison designed the Fisher 303 for Fisher aircraft.  If you compare it to the MiniMax, you see the similarity between the two planes.  Not a cheap price on that Fisher plane though.  Frequently one sees flying MiniMaxs or Himaxes for less.   Take a look at this forum, it's for MiniMaxes and HImaxes.  Maybe something is available there.  Here is a video of my Himax on skis.  JImChuk

You are right.  Why didn't I notice that myself.  suppose because I haven't done anything with one for about 4 or 5 years.  Second I read your post though I remembered.  The lord mounts are on the sides of the aluminum  channel parts that bolt to the engine.  JImChuk

TJay,  You asked about the dual flaperon counterweights.  I don't have a manual handy at the moment, but this is what I remember.  The dual weights were used on the speedster wing, and the flaperon actually had the skin cut throught in the middle??  As I recall, the idea was so the flaperon could twist better and follow what the wing was doing in aggressive maneuvers.  I didn't find if with the later models that became standard practice on all wing types.   I just went and googled Kitfox images, and it seems like quite a few of the later Kitfoxes have dual ones, but not all.  Could maybe dig through some of Trent Palmers videos to see if he has them.  I did see one picture of a Kitfox parked next to his plane, and it had the dual ones, but I couldn't tell if he did or not.  JImChuk

Did you look at these lord mounts at Leading Edge Airfoils catalog?  Look on page two.  They give dimensions of mounts, so you can compare to what you have.  JImChuk

  21. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic WTB 2 Master Cylinders

On my Kitfox 4, I made a remote reservoir out of a short piece of 3/4" copper tube and 2 end caps     .  Think I soldered a penny in the bottom for extra material to thread into for the 1/8" pipe thread.  I'm sure I have a couple of master cylinders but they have the built in reservoirs.  JImChuk

  22. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic Wanted: Avid flaperon counterweights

I can't say for sure, but the kitfox 3 flaperons are the same size as the Avid ones, and hinge the same way.  Probably would work, especially if you follow the flaperon balance directions in the Avid builders manual.  JImChuk

Data plate doesn't mean as much on an experimental as it would on a certified aircraft.  Maybe what you will need to do is get the listed owner to reestablish the registration, and then transfer the registration from current FAA listed owner to your name.  JImChuk

Is it possible to reestablish the original registration.  You wouldn't be able to get the repairman's certificate, but that is really not that big of an issue if you can make friends with an AnP.  JImChuk
