Obviously a project.  Looks like I would do a complete recover of the fuselage, and widen it while I was at it.  I don't like fuel filters between wing tanks and header tank.  Very easy to plug them as it's just gravity feed at that point. Header tank is meant to catch things that get by the finger strainers in the wing tanks.   Fuel filter forward of header is good though.   Rudder pedals should be reinforced, as that has not been done.   Nothing that money and work can't fix.

Randy,  what is the difference in price if you build the landing gear to use bungees instead of springs?   JImChuk

Glad your getting some flying in.  Surprised speeds aren't better.  If you can overrev straight and level, I would say add some pitch to the prop.  You very well may not loose much climb performance, and gain some cruise.  JImChuk

Glad you got a little bit of flying in, I know the faperons are a good bit stiffer on my Kitfox 4 than the Avid Flyer as well.  I think it's partly the larger flaperons, like you said in the video.  Did you notice any difference  after you went to the new style mixer control, and before you went to the Kitfox 4 wings and flaperons?  JImChuk

I believe Jim Tomash is the guy who was behind Mark, or it seems at least had something to do with it.

In about 2010 Brett Mckinney bought Avid from Jerry Mattison.  (At least that is the Avid who you could order parts from at the time)   Brett got the jigs and such at that time.  I had Brett rebuild a MK IV fuselage for me a couple of years ago, and he still had the fuselage jig then.  I dont believe it's the same jig that the lady you are in contact with has.  I was Brett's first customer with him repairing a different MK IV fuselage, and a guy who was the Avid's welder, was helping Brett get set up and spent a week or two there in Wisconsin while I was there.   The Avid parts were made by a guy in Belgrade, Mt.  He sold the Avid molds to  a guy I know in Mn.  I understand that some of those molds have made their way down to Iowa where the "new  Avid" operation was setting up shop.   It seems this whole thing is a bit of a can of worms, and so my question is,  who really owns Avid, are there really any "rights" to the Avid company?  Right now it seems that there are three sets of jigs floating around.

I'll bet it would do pretty good with a Jabiru engine on the front.  Way lighter than the VW, and a bit more power as well.
PS  looking at this plane a bit more, and it has folding wings and looks to be in good shape.  I would go have a look at it if it was close to me and I was in the market.  Way cheaper and quicker than building one

Looking at the registration on the FAA site, and the registration is expired.  It wasn't cancelled by the owner looks like to me.  It may be possible to get it reinstated.  If the engine was any good, it would be worth that much by itself easy.  The 912 Rotax is not real bad for rusting up internally when it's sat a long time.  Cam and lifters are down low, nicosil cylinders,  If it was real close to me, I would go have a look at it.  Even though I've been saying for the last year, "no more projects"   JImChuk

Allen, I sent your number on to the guy with the minimax.  TJay, I think Team Kitfox is more geared to later model Kitfoxes than what we see here.  Lot of good guys there as well as you said.

Allen, if you private message me your phone number, I can message the guy and ask him to call you.  As far as facebook goes, I really wish it hadn't taken over or maybe say overtaken the forums.  I think of it more of a gossip thing, and less of the real plane building and information.  On these forums, you can do a search and find stuff that was posted 10 yrs ago, and it very well may be relevant to what you were trying to find out.   On fb its hard to find something that is a week old.  Also, lots of key board commandos.  Maybe some screwed up kid in his mom's basement trying to sound like he knows something.  And often enough maybe someone older than a kid with the same desire to sound important.  It especially peeves me when someone posts an add, and the first question some one will ask is "is the price negotiable?"  not how many hours, what engine, ect, ect.....

Hi Allen,  I just saw this on barnstormers.  It's paperwork is expired from the previous owner though.  Kolb is a fun plane.
KOLB TWINSTAR MKII PROJECT • $5,000 • COME AND GET IT • I purchased this Kolb Twinstar MKII 2-place project but I just haven't had time to do anything with it and don't see that changing any time soon. Folding wings and tail for storage and easy transport. Keep it in your garage and save on hangar fees. Rotax 503 SCSI with a 2.58 gearbox. Starts easily and runs smooth. Includes both a wood and Warp drive composite prop with nickel leading edge. Manual, plans, log book. Good wings, new tires. Don't miss out on a very affordable project. • Contact Chad Stenson , Owner - located Oostburg, WI 53070 United States • Telephone: 920-226-4554 • Posted May 13, 2022 • Show all Ads posted by this Advertiser • Recommend This Ad to a Friend • Email Advertiser • Save to Watchlist • Report This Ad • View Larger Images

Hi Kent,  I got those control rod lengths just now, I forgot till I saw your comment again, and ran out to the garage.  Elevator is the short one, flaps are the long one.  The dumb end of the tape in the first picture shows where I measured from.  JImChuk

Lots of stuff hanging in the rafters and such all over the country.  Probably half of the kits never get finished.  Kitfox 4 that I'm working on now is from 1996.  Still not done.  Many others just like it.  Just a matter of finding them, or at least one.  There was one in Michigan last week.  1050 Kitfox 4.  Covered and with poly brush on it.  Been sitting for a bunch of years since.  Was 8000 or 9000

Best bet if that is the sort of plane you want, is try to find an unfinished kit.  Run adds on barnstormers.  J3 kitten, Perceptor pup, Fisher Quala, Himax, lots others as well sitting unfinished in storage I'll bet.
