Hey Leni I found where I posted the engine section of the build manual. Maybe you can move or add it to the manual you posted.
Ok crap I see that only the first page of each section got posted, I see if I can get it corrected but will get it to you one way or another.

Ok will do a little later today, I think I have the files on my computer at home.  Here are some photos.  Let me know if there is something else that you need I will be out here for a little bit.  These are the old carbon steel tubes on the floor, ordered SS bends to make the new exhaust which I suggest because the carbon did not stand up.

Did the MK IV manual that you posted have the 912 installation pages, if not I can send them to you.  Lots of pictures and drawings that may help.  I think that I posted that section at one time but can't find where they are.

I am using MGL ALT-3 cost a fair amount more but has some nice features including built -in VSI.  Also calcs DA, and more.
That one look like a deal though.

No need to search EBay, all of these instruments come with a free, proper sized hole but the hole must be installed by the buyer. They are very hard to ship and tend to swallow themselves and disappear so I cannot guarantee you will be able to see them upon arrival.

I use the epoxy varnish from PolyFiber on all of the wood.  +1 on Ed's suggestion of Randolph, I think it is all the same company now.  Probably any epoxy product for wood is good but test first and there is no doubt that the two above will stand up to the Polytone.  I found out that is not true of all epoxy paints.

  17. wypaul added a post in a topic Rotax 912 Oil Cooler

I ran mine without an oil cooler for a couple of hundred hours but the oil temps were higher than I liked (upto 260F).   Mine has the tank under the baggage compartment and the exposed oil lines were supposed to act as the oil cooler.  I suggest you install one now while you are doing the install of the 912 don't think you will regret it.

  18. wypaul added a post in a topic Kit bill of sale for registration question

That is basically what I did but the seller had the original Bill of Sale from Avid which I sent in also.  In my case I was also required to send a copy of the death certificate because I bought the kit from his widow.  Once you start the process if they want something more they will let you know. Sending them FAA, an email may save you a few weeks of dinking around.

  19. wypaul added a post in a topic First Flight in Avid / Speeds/ Temps???

I bet we can get a hundred seconds on all of that Joey.  Find an instructor and put in the hours to get the TW indorsement it will save you a bunch of money and some explaining to your local grumpy FAA guy.  Also be cautious about letting an instructor that is not experienced in an Avid or Kitfox fly your airplane.  If you let us know where you live there is probably someone within a couple hours drive that can get you up in their plane and talk you thru what to expect but please get that indorsement first.

Not sure what the p1 and p2 refer to but I do have a right side gear leg if that is what you are looking for that I would be willing to part with.  Send me an IM if that is by chance what you need.

  22. wypaul added a post in a topic Recovering from a bounce

I was taught to hold the stick to the lap and let the plane settle back on.  That works just fine until it doesn't so not wanting to get into that story, I now tend to add power and reset up the landing or go around.  I am not a CFI and can't say that this is the "right" way but that is what I am doing now.
also at 50 mph approach my MK IV is harder to land, not enough energy to stop the decent without adding more power.  For a dead stick I plan on 70mph approach.  Once again not saying this is the right way just what works for me and my plane.  I sure would like to hear what others find for approach speeds with a 650 pound plane.

  23. wypaul added a post in a topic Tail wheel dolly

I would not try tail up taxiing, the change in power setting for fast taxi practice and the change in attitude are the most risky.  Like Ed said get some instruction, as much as you can stand, and then use a 3 point takeoff and landing on your first flights IMHO.

Here are a few photos of the Avid mount, I don't think they will help much because it is so busy around the mount that it is hard to see.
