I am using the dual tail spring from Airdale witht the wide Matco 8" dual fork TW and it has been a great set up.  The original Avid spring bent immediately.  I bought a single spring from AC Spruce and stacked it with the Avid spring and it finally broke.  The TW becomes a wrecking ball on your rudder as  the fusalage drags along in the gravel.  I bought the Airdale spring when I was still flying my MKIV and then switched it to my Avid+ and it has been great.  On the 3 spring unit, the weight on the tail would not be a issue but it seems like it would be pretty stiff unless they are much lighter springs.  All that get transmitted back into your airframe.  Just something to consider.  If you can land without ever touching your TW until you are stopped; that should not be a problem though.

It would be a pain for me to use my plane if theTW did not swivel.  I have never had it disconnect unexpectedly on me; I don't land on pavement much though so maybe it is more of a problem on pavement.

I looked at this for a while at OSH, even came back to look a second time. I liked it but just used their pricing guide online and over $42k for the basic quick build kit with 912uls FWF. No engine, instruments, paint or extras. Wow. What's the Kitfox 7 QB kit go for these days?

I'd say similar. Figure $20k fwb, $30k fwf with motor, $20k paint, radios, instruments, etc. for a new Kitfox SS kit.

Lots of stuff was cheaper in the very early 80s, Ed. That would be the last time you would ever see a complete kit for anywhere near $10-15k.

Then you could buy a nice house for $25k. (Twice the cost of a kit) Now you need to spend $150k for a similar nice house. Ironically about twice the cost of this kit, still.

A good job then paid $15k per year. Now a similar Good job is $60-75k? See the pattern?

    Everything is relative.

I've updated two iPhones and two iPads to IOS7.  It's the smoothest upgrade yet for me.  One iPhone was done through iTunes (needed to upgrade that first).  The others were done "over the air" (OTA).  All went smoothly but took some time.

The only battery life issue I had was some apps were set up to update in the background which I didn't need them to be doing.  After I disabled this in the settings, all is good.

One minor bug I've noticed is while muted, the keyboard still makes some key click noises.

All in all, I really like the upgrade.  Most important, Foreflight runs well with it.

Only one thing makes me humble - my bank account! These birds started out at about $10K, engine and everything included, but no "Quick-Builds" - and that was about twice what you could build one from plans - but that was about the time I retired.

A whole lotta fun to be had right here for 40K!! I'd love to have something like this in addition to my Avid. Best of both worlds!

Let me know - I've got a cheap-start for a model 1, or it can be modified to model 3, or 4 Gw, and lots of the parts are already made. Just bring some cash and a pickup or trailer......

Now, back to Hermans original thought about elimanting the centering cam or not?

If you are talking about taking off the cam-plate that unlocks a Maul tailwheel, I would highly recommend this for at least the first 50-100 hours of your operations...

    Chase,

I've got a Kitfox 2 bump cowl sitting here - If you want to come over and bring your cowl, you are welcome to compare them to see if an earlier cowl would fit - Mine is with the Kitfox 1 clone that I have for sale - so I'm not selling it separately.

I also have a smooth cowl, but it may not be the same as yours.

I don't honestly think that the earlier bump cowls will fit the 912?

SAD NEWS: I talked to RANS today about their plastic wing tanks, both in 9 gal and 12 gal - Sorry to say that they wont fit in our Avid-Foxes because their wing is about 48 inches between spars, and the tanks take up most of that space, where our spars are 25 inches apart.

    Well, I tried....

BTW - Their new S20 Highwing, SxS seating for 2, is on the internet, and looks like another winner with 1320 gross weight.

The update went fine for me, I did it on the lappy with a high speed Ethernet connection then flashed the phone. I've tried other updates via WiFi to a device directly and had issues. Seems something always goes bad, not to mention takes a whole lot more time. The overall scheme in iOS 7 utilizes a lot of thin black lines and/or letter fonts on a white background. Not cartoon-ish, but supposedly a 'cleaner' less 'busy' look but I find it harder for my eyes to quickly acquire info now. I much preferred the heavier white font on a black background. Ex., on the start splash page the date and time are in thin white font now which washes out against the light sky on my Kitfox pic splash page. Hey, I like my splash page and would appreciate a choice of schemes or font colors at the least. I did notice a B-I-G battery life difference and disabled several of the new auto features (particularly games which I never use), and I could care less if 99% of my apps auto update in the background. I always shut apps after using them to preserve the already short (IMHO) battery life anyways. Before the update I had to charge at least once daily given my typical usage, jury's still out but well see how it goes in real life. IIRC, poor battery life issues were quickly resolved with a revision after the iOS 6 update.

DITTO THAT. I prefer the previous version.

The only think I like is an up swipe on the homescreen displays quick access to settings, flashlight and a calculator amongst some other things.

I would not go dual.  Three leafs is the only way.  SIngles break, duals go flat.

This shop will talk to you about the spring you need officially for your "go cart".  If you explain that you need one of the 1-1/2" wide springs they have made for the airplane guy in Rhinelander, he will understand.

I think you will have $50 with shipping...

I guess I did a good job of totally hijacking Hermans post. Thanks for bringing the topic up Herman.

I got an email back from Wassau and indeed, they said send in your old one and "I'll build a new one".

So, it appears the concensus is that single and double leaf springs are not the way to go period and to build a 3-leaf spring.
