Can anyone give me measurements from main gear center to nose wheel center on either or both the Avid steerable or the Kitfox castoring nosewheels?

Please give make and model with measurements.

    Thanks,

This one has an open thread over on Team Kitfox right now. The consensus (I agree with) is it is overpriced for what it is. Lots of damage there that will be very costly to repair.

A Lite Squared is a stripped down IV Classic-1200 that was sold as a competition to the Avid Mark IV Bandit. It was intended as an Ultralight Trainer, sort of paired with the new (at the time) Kitfox Lite.

You didn't forget to include some fuel and a pilots weight did you?  27 pounds needed on the tail would be pretty unusual.  Empty weight does not have to be within CG limits.

I think you are right on - no plane flies without fuel and pilot - We were loading Cessnas in Alasks so heavy that the pilot had to get in to put the nose wheel back down and bring the tail up!

Just a thought, and I don't claim to know anything about 2cycle exhausts:

What about the flexible strap-type, clamp hangers found in auto parts stores, used to hang tailpipes and mufflers? Any way you could suspend it with one or two of those?

do I have to put +1.5 and -146 in the arm to make it work  I have a mark IV with a VW engine and 297 on left and 297 on right and 55 on the tail thanks randy

The real weight on the tail wheel is 28 the only way I could get the numbers right is to use 55. so I need to add enough ballast in the tail to get it to 55

    Randy,

Any WB calculations have to include the arms times the weight when plane is level - I think Avids are the same as Kitfox and all weights and arms are taken from the leading edge of the wings, with the tail in position to level the floor of the cockpit - hang a plumb bob or a weight from the leading edge and measure from the center of that to the center of your tires - unless you have a nose-dragger all arms should be +. If I remember right, you divide the total (arms times weights) by the total weight to get the CG of that configuration.

Your book should show maximum forward and aft CG in wing measurements from leading edge.

P.S. Doug - I cant read the WB calculator you posted because it requires Office, and I don't have that - is there another way you can post it - pbf / pby? / jek / jet? Whatever they call it. jpg? I know there are others, but cant remember the names. Oh, the one with the red shield and what looks like a 3 blade prop on it?

Randy what are your "arms" for your airplane? Mains, TW, header, baggage also your weight and pass weight.  I ran your weights with my arms and it appears that you will be fine without the added weight but the big caveat : follow the instructions in the manual measuring and weighing everything for yourself and then do your own WB.   If you purchased this plane with a WB do it again yourself. Well that is what I would do.

Also the arms behind the datum will be positive and those ahead of the datum will be negative.

'Camber' refers to the curve of the lower rib airfoil surface. The flat-bottom speed rib airfoil surface has zero camber. Because the lower rib airfoil surface of the HH/STOL rib curves upwards (towards chord line) it is said to be under-cambered. The 'twist' built into a wing as viewed from root to tip is also called 'washout'.Sorry I can not help with speed comparison yet, still building mine.

    Doug,

As the guru of wing info - Is the Avid speedwing rib the same on bottom as the Riblett Kitfox ribs, or is it flatter?

are your spars 12' plus the wing tips? this is normal or is your complete wing root to tip 12' sounds like you may be missing one complete wing bay. might be possible that the builder had aerobat spars and built them with HH ribs not sure why you would want to shorten up the HH wing though. are you sure you don't have flat bottom speed ribs in which case you have an aerobat wing :)  (alum raps about 12") I'm not sure I follow this do you mean that the leading edge is wrapped in alum? I'm sure someone else more knowledgeable than I will help you on this matter. good luck

    -Robert-

my wing spars are .83 and has HH ribs and total wing is 12 ft. and have 10 ribs with 2 false ribs and has alum raps about 12 in.   HH wings are supposed to be 14ft.  has anyone have any experience with this set up?  thanks Randy in tn. also  looking for someone close to dyersburg tn with experience with the avid .cell 731 589 1330   email no1son38@aol.com

Here are some random pictures. I love to kayak by plane. It combines some of my favorite activities. Great fun getting to cool destinations, kayaking when I get there and great fun coming back. Another thing I really enjoy is plane camping with my girlfriend. I had my Magnum set up to carry boat, bike, camping gear, the works. My 582 MKIV could not carry the bike or as much gear, but I could still carry boat and camp solo or camp with my girlfriend dual.
