I guess I'll re-post the question I asked earlier today right before the site went down. Could anyone share some real world empty weights? Any additional information that relates to weight would be helpful too (engine, custom features that affect weight, etc.). I searched for this, but didn't come up with a similar thread.

Now that I'm about ready to start building my Avid, I'd like to set a weight goal. I'm guessing that I'll be somewhere between the 912 guys and the Subaru guys. That's assuming similar airframe to my MK-IV (Avid A-IV, or KF I-IV).

    Thanks,

    Luke D.

Sorry guys, but we got hacked this morning and after 6 hrs with tech support we had to restore from a database from yesterday.  As such, we lost the posts from yesterday and today.  If you posted up a burning question, please go back and repost your pictures or questions.

Thanks for hanging in there guys.

I took a good look at the mod to the seat and side webs.  Since my fuselage is bare it should not be much of a problem to add.  Thanks for the heads up.

Brian T (Thebriman) told me that there was a fiberglass belly pod for an Avid but I had never seen it.  For anyone needing additional storage it looks like a good thing to buy.  Making mine was a PITA for sure but it is very light and aerodynamically cleaner than the glass one and it appears it will hold much more - but it has not yet been used in flight!!  Maybe I will look at creating a glass version at some point in the future.

Other ideas I have are to convert the under camber airfoil into a Riblett 415 (ish) and offering a kit for it and a modification to the doors to make them more secure with a separate opening window.  I will be flying with about $8K worth of instruments that I would like to have at the start of each flight.  Anyone consider these ideas here and if so how do I find them?

Oh, by the way, you guys are far more interesting than the guys over on the Yahoo Avid site, but don't tell them!  I like being able to imbed pictures with comments.  It is very convenient.

    Nice job (and welcome)!

I like it but I'm too lazy and time challenged to make my own. I've been looking for one of the old 'large' style Skystar belly pods for my Avid+. Works with bungee gear, not aluminum spring gear. Wonder which would hold more?

Just came across this add on barnstormers and he has the cargo pod you mentioned, If your interested it may be worth a shot seeing if he is willing to sell it separate from the rest of the plane http://www.barnstormers.com/listing_images.php?id=876832&ZOOM=cc2b83d4afe4dbb7cf6dcb67fd3a84c6

Yep its a left turner,im happy as long as it keeps turning,im using the same air filter as the lycombings I think, its sitting right on top of the TBI. I have some baffles inside the straight pipes and its not to bad at all, they say it doesnt sound louder than any other aircraft when im flying over

With the Avid+ I haven't really needed a belly pod either but the nice thing about a belly pod is you can put things in it that you really don't like having in the cabin with you....no, not your wife.  I mean things like gas bags, dead critters, etc.

Thanks Guys, Chris it is a crazy world for as many avid + that are out there and you ended up getting one also, I ended up making the firewall to fit the cowl,it is diffenently wider than what was intended for the avid plus but the upper half of the cowl was pretty close to the right width, the bottom half near the lower door area was a bit wider but it bends in enough to  get sucked in and not be to noticable. The toughest part was the windshield flange, I cut off that area on the kitfox cowl and fiber glassed in a new flange to fit my windsheild. I kinda wish I would of raised the nose a bit more but it does give better visabilty being  lower.

Thanks for the tip Ed. I'll refer back to this when I get to that point. Wouldn't want to get it upside down. I think I have a full scale drawing of the leading edge in the manual I got from Kitfox, so I could probably make the templates myself like you did.

    Luke,

Before you get ready to glue the plastic leading edge in place, you want to make sure you have it right side up - there is a difference.    I copied the drawing out of the book and made some templates to use to get it at the proper location along the wing.

If you will PM your address, I will send you one to use as a pattern to make more - You need about 6 or 8, depending on how particular you are.

Best way I have found is to use these to line up the plastic, and go on the bottom side of the plastic and tape securely all along the bottom - then remove the guides, bend the plastic down a little, and put the glue on - then put the guides back on and tape everything until the 9460 sets up - like next day.

         Hope this helps.
