If anyone is looking for a good buy on an airplane other than Avid/Fox check out the Emeraude listed on Barnstormers. I flew this plane yesterday and. If I were in the market for a third airplane this would be the one.

I just took some cordura and stitched up a new black sling, they are simple to make took about an hour including putting in the grommets for the string. about a yard of fabric.

thanks for the comments. We're very excited to see it coming along. the paint booth was a friend of a friends and worked out awesome. really helps to have that kind of lighting, ventilation, and temp control. Colors used were Juneau White and Sport Yellow. we are going to pin stripe everywhere the two come together probably with a nice black to make the yellow pop off the white. It really shines in the sun already.

Mine was dyed but the dye has faded, doesn't look very good anymore.  I like the sling seat pretty good, that being said has anyone had theirs reupholstered?

I had the nasty brown one too.  for about 30 bucks in fabric and foam padding, I talked the ex into making me a new one.  I took it out in favor of the fiberglass seat, but in the spirit of putting the plane on a diet, I am going to put the sling seat back in.

I am not sure on the dye.. it may work, or it may turn into a seat that every time your flying when its hot out and you sweat, your gonna have a black back side.

    Robert,

Not knowing squat about sling seats - Could you just find some nice colored material and cover it?

I would like to dye my ugly brown sling seat black to make it match my paint job. has anyone else done this before that would like to pass along some pointers? I have the original brown C sling seat its still new unused in great shape I just don't like the color even more so now that I have the rest of the plane painted. it just doesn't go well with my chosen colors

Thanks for the input, I'm very pleased with how our paint turned out. the main things I learned for the next guy would be 1. take your time with the prep work clean everything very well and when its all cleaned wipe it down again with alcohol just for good measure. 2. wear a tyvek paint suit and respirator.  3.EkoPoly seems to spray best between 70*-75* any colder and its much easier to get a run. take your time more light coats are better than fewer heavy coats. 4. if you have a run use a wide foam brush to carefully brush it out while its still wet sooner is better than later, if you do this especially if its not on the final coat you will probably not have to do anything to fix it later it will go away with the following coats.  If it is on your final wet coat just brush it away anyways and when it starts to tack up just hit that spot again with another wet coat and it will be gone.

Materials used were - lots of blue shop paper towels I mean lots. Alcohol for pre cleaning (don't even think about touching wet paint with anything other than water it will have a bad chemical reaction and you will be doing lots of sanding trust me. 2 1/2 gal of your base color more if you have a learning curve to deal with I had an extra quart and was glad I did still have a little left.  1/2 gal of your color coat will do most designs. 2 gal eko fill 1 gal eko bond 1 bottle eko clean 1-2 quarts eko prime

Thanks again for you guys' input I hope my experience can help the next guy

I notice that there are no registration numbers on that dangerous object - Unregistered flying objects kill people!

Please call the President and give large donations to make it illegal to sell an unregistered flying object -

make background checks mandatory - and destroy all unregistered flying objects - limit all to only have 7 straws attached,

and a 55 mph speed limit - make seatbelts and airbags mandatory - put red and green and white flashing lights on them.

ONLY your government can protect YOU!

Thats a pretty good way of looking at it!  On my last flight I noted that my VSI is not working.  It bugged me cause there was something in the panel that didnt work, but I have a VSI on my GPS that is damn near as accurate at the old steam gauge in the panel.  I was going to replace it, but now I think I will just huck it.  It would be nice to get the Avid back to bare bones as it is about to be my Sunday flyer and if I am going anywhere that weather will be an issue I will be using the 180.. Which has also gone on a diet (over 40 pounds of old ADF crap and the old HF antenna tuner etc.)  It will be loosing almost 60 pounds of interior as well!

The earthX lithium battery is high on my list.  I can loose 11 pounds right there.

Weight is the enemy of movement. And I'm taking that personally by sheading the last 25 lbs of fat off me😳. My MkIv w582 started off at about 555 and is down to @525 and the difference is amazing in flight. If it's not absolutely for flight (wing spar, tail feather, etc),take it out in the driveway, hold it eye level straight armed for 15 minutes, then ask your self, "Based on had bad my shoulder is on fire, is this worth taking into the air with me?" Needless to say, there was about 30 pounds of shit left out in the driveway! Everything this subject now! Good luck!
