Here is an estimate I recieved 8/11/14 for replacement gear Item #1021-3, associated mounting hardware and shipping costs. Be aware, Grove tries to keep a few of the more popular springs in inventory, however, if you call them when the shelves are bare, it will take up to 4-6 weeks depending on their batch heat treating schedule.

I'm looking for a couple of F2 Flaperon U-Joints for an Avid Flyer Mark IV. I have the plans to make them, but perhaps someone has one or two they could sell me.

Also had a precover inspection by my A&P so he know what's what when we do the condition inspection later this summer.

Final assembly underway! Baggage compartment getting carpet and installed.
Here's the new aluminum header tank.

Run and secure it before covering. My plane looks like a spilled bowl of spaghetti right now.
If it's really absolute that there needs to be a joint, you'll have to use something like a bellcrank or something to terminate one cable and start the next...

Kitfox wants that much for the Grove gear or for the wing parts - If I wasn't so deep in my project, I would come and get it - maybe if I was younger? If I had room to store it, I would get it anyway.EDMO
Thanks Ed. It's a good deal even if it had standard gear. The grove gear makes this a steal. Should make somebody a great head start.
Best regards

Ron you can cold bend lexan to make new pieces without having to connect them with aluminum. this stuff bends real easily and nicely if you don't have access to a break some carefully positioned straight edges clamped into position and you can bend it by hand. experiment with the bad stuff first you shouldn't have any trouble with it. good luck with your bath keep us posted

Ok...I went to Home Depot to buy Goo Gone @ about $5 a small spray bottle. I love the stuff, it saved my truck after my wife drove it down a freshly tared road! However, I knew it would work very slowly on this paper and it would take a lot of it.
So, I saw some Zep Heavy Duty Citrus Cleaner @ $10 for a gallon with a spray bottle too! I poured about half of the gallon in the bath tub and added an inch of water. I threw two pieces of plexi in and after about 5 minutes the paper was saturated and peeled off, but it left the sticky layer behind. I have checked it every hour for the last 4 hours and each time some is coming off, but not enough to say that this is a winner.
I'm going to leave them soaking overnight, if they are sticky free in the morning I will keep at it, but if they are still covered I will look for other options.
The Magnum came with three of the pieces having creases in them...the doors, and the turtle deck. It would be nice to have them like that, but I guess I could always use angle aluminum to connect two pieces of plexi. Oh well...I'll let you know what happens in the morning.
Thanks,
Ron

To make tail assembly easier and to keep from running cable outside of elevator and to keep from hiring midget to thread it thru the fuselage?
Once the elevator is covered, there is no way to run the cable housing thru it and clamp it on the inside.

Wicks has 2 sizes of cable housing, and about 4 sizes of wire - I planned to use the same as you.Hi Ed, the trim cable was 7/32" OD, and that is what this cable housing is from Wicks. It also uses the .078 wire. Jim Chuk

Ed, the trim cable ran through a series of short 5/16" tubes welded on through the fuselage. That was standard on a MK IV from the factory. I'll try to get a couple of pics for you. TJay, I'm glad that you got that kit from me. I obviously have to many things on my plate as it is. Luked, it's kind of hard to see, but the wings have a scalloped pattern on the front top and bottom. That scalloping was painted, the stripes down the side was pressure sensitive vinyl that I cut and applied. It was real tough doing the cowl part. The eagle wing was hard to get the backing off and laid out straight, but it came out pretty nice I thought. Jim Chuk

Jim,
If you have any photos of how you ran your cable from front to tab, I would like to see them.
I'm planning on White, Red, and Blue - matching my Cessna wingtips.

Hey Jim, sorry for the thread jack, but I really like your plane. That's very similar to the way I want to paint mine. I like the classic red and white.

No, the plane I'm redoing is the one I had with a Jabiru engine in it. Here is what it looked like the last time I recovered it. Jim Chuk
