    Hello T -

I saw that ad a few days ago and was going to call the owner to get the history on this one. It does not look like an Avid+ fuselage to me, and does not have a balanced rudder or tall vertical stabilizer. The tubing stringers don't follow the same shape as all other Avid+, whether full kit or upgrade fuse either IMO. Not really sure what's going on there, perhaps a very early Avid+ prototype? Let me know what you find out please.

If you dont get an answer on this, its probably because the right people have not noticed it here = go to AvidFoxFlyers General Hanger, and post on the Airdale post - You will get a response, or at least see the new phone numbers for Airdale - Bret, who has moved.
We have members flying this model, and 2 or 3 of us are flying Soobs.

    Avid plus specs
    Hello everyone

I'm new to the board and currently thinking about looking at an avid plus in my local area. Is there anywhere to obtain specs for this model? The one I'm looking at has an ea81 Subaru on it. Thanks

I have owned my own business before and I will be the first to say that things do come up but its just good business practice to let the customer know when they do so at least we are not lost in the dark. and I in no way am meaning to put down Brett I have spoken with him on several occasions and he is a great guy and I would really like to see his business grow. On the up side I got a call last night from Rod his tank builder and was able to meet up with him in Boise this morning and pick up my nice new tanks. Top notch quality and I really like the flush fill caps no more sticking up above the tank, they also have a sump fitting on the bottom.

Thats a good deal. I paid 250 for mine loaded with the AK maps for the areas I fly, but it was well used and did not have any of the accessories! I would buy it if I didnt already have one that does the job. I dont need the fancy stuff here cause the XM does not work anyway.

A woman was playing golf when she took a big swing and fell.

The party waiting behind her was a group from the White House that included Obama.

Obama quickly stepped forward and helped her to her feet.

She thanked him and started to leave, when he said,

"I'm President Obama and I hope you'll vote for me this November."

She laughed and quickly said, "I fell on my ass, not my head!"

Nancy Reagan regarding John Hinckley's release: We could all learn so much from this elegant and gracious lady.

You might recall that John Hinckley was a seriously deranged young man who shot President Reagan in the early 1980's. Hinckley was absolutely obsessed with movie star Jodie Foster, and, in his twisted mind, loved Jodie to the point that to make himself well known to her, he attempted to assassinate President Reagan.
There is speculation Hinckley may soon be released as having been rehabilitated. Consequently, you will appreciate the following letter from Nancy Reagan to John Hinckley:

    To: John Hinckley
    From: Mrs. Nancy Reagan

My family and I wanted to drop you a short note to tell you how pleased we are with the great strides you are making in your recovery. In our country's spirit of understanding and forgiveness, we want you to know that we bear no grudge against you for shooting Ronnie.

We are fully aware that mental stress and pain could have driven you to such an act of desperation. We're confident that you will soon make a complete recovery and return to your family to join the world again as a healthy and productive man. Best wishes, Nancy Reagan & Family

P.S. While you have been incarcerated, Barack Obama has been banging Jodie Foster like a screen door in a tornado. You might want to look into that.

Not being able to meet a deadline happens, some times its thier fault, sometimes its not. a month ago I ordered a powerhead rebuild kit for my outboard. I had a promised delivery date of the 26th of last month. I paid 100 extra to get the kit shipped overnight to my house as I has guys from work flying in to spend a few days halibut fishing with me. The date came and went and it was just yesterday that I got ahold of the place. Kit has not yet shipped... Seems the guy taking orders had suddenly left the company the day after I placed my order and due to what ever reason, the owner had no way of knowing what kits had shipped etc. He was in the unfortunate position to have to just wait for customers to call and bitch about the items not being delivered before he could send out the orders. It cost him alot of time and money, and was not really his fault. I understand that shit does sometimes happen, but this seems to be a long on going issue

Brett, please atleast hire some temp answering service in the area so we can atleast get a warm fuzzy from talking to a person, not the answering machine that obviously eats the messages and never gives them to you.

QUESTION: My flying friend has another brand of land-use GPS and he says it wont work in his plane.
I have a Garmin Nuvi and fly lots of roads - will it work, or does it need an antenna in a plane?
I like to have it to get around on the ground. Havent tried it yet in a plane.

The 196 uses a serial port and is no longer supported by Garmin for updates. I just traded mine in on a 396 recently. My database was 2 years old and worked just fine. Some airport info changes occasionally but if your depending solely on your GPS for that kind of info your wrong in my opinion. In an emergency it'll still show you the field and in that case who cares what you call it or the frequency if there pavement available. I flew with that 196 for 7 years plugged into a cig lighter with zero issues. Granted it's pretty dated now but I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if your budget doesn't allow for a newer model.

I realize he is busy with Oshkosh but he is not the one making the tanks they are made here in Idaho about 1 1/2 hrs from me and I did order them a month ago. I guess I just expect someone to meet their deadlines or else let me know they will not and when they expect to be done.

Don't expect to hear much from Larry or Brett until Oshkosh is over. It's in their backyard and is a huge event for them. I know you guys are frustrated but please be patient. Up until a year ago Airdale didnt really exist and ZERO parts were available. At least we have something now.

Yes I know its an old post but things still seem to be a problem. My last order for parts took over 3 months. Now I've been waiting for two wing tanks that were going to be ready for local pickup by July 10th I am stuck and cannot go any further without them. I have left several messages on Brett's business phone and cell. he has yet to return my calls. I hate to complain but I took time off work this week because my wife is out of state and I have lots of time to work uninterruptedly and here I sit without parts. grrr. I know some of you know Brett if you happen to speak with him maybe you could put in a word for me. I would at least like to know what the hold up is and how much longer i should expect to twiddle my thumbs.
sorry for the rant, I will get off my soap box now.

Yeah Joey, I get the impression that the factory crowd can be more than a little 'cliquey'. I don't much care to visit as I don't play well with a 'my-shit-don't-stink' crowd. Based on the comments re: the TKF post, neither do many others, lol.

While my personal interactions with John have been mixed as noted earlier, I am still appreciative of what support Kitfox does give to existing owners (similar parallels to the 'new' Airdale). My experience is that they are still supporting the KF4 and up models fairly well. At least they did have everything I needed and that's what I read, which makes sense because they did produce a run of KF4 Classic kits recently. I'm much more disappointed that they chose to simply sell off the earlier KF 1-3 parts inventory acquired from Skystar and manufacture only a few compatible, expensive and high margin items like wing tanks, etc. With 5000+ kits sold, there is a lot of demand for replacement parts in that KF 1-3 / Avid A-D community and my experience parting out my KF3 proved that. I got parts of that plane in more than a dozen states and three countries!

Anyhow, I suppose we can second-guess their decision to abandon support of models they don't produce to focus on S7 kit and S-LSA sales, but I'm sure they have a better grasp on the industry segments and related profit potential than we do. And, I suspect, limited resources to re-start and run their new company in both a tough industry and very challenging economy. I may not like that from the aircraft owner's side of the fence, but as the business owner investing my assets I most certainly would go where the highest probability of return on investment was. Reality is, they'd rather produce and sell one S7 kit than a bazillion separate, individual parts for the same profit margin. It appears to be paying off, judging by the kit manufacturer rankings and a several month lead time tossed about recently (assuming it's accurate). I do think they are having a hard time in their pursuit of S-LSA sales.

Again, I am not condoning anyone's gruff take-it-or-leave-it business practices or -in the story given- John's too quick to chastise attitude. Remember too, there are always two sides to each story. Perhaps John's reply sounded a bit tepid because the guy minimized his own bad behavior and John was hesitant to give him a public forum tongue-lashing in hopes of salvaging a sale. Who knows? Simply saying I personally would neither have the patience to step into those shoes nor much appreciate anyone "touching my junk" so to speak. And I suspect most here would not be terribly patient if someone disregarded their 'Do Not Touch' signs either.

It's all just piss 'n vinegar to me, no biggie. I know we have a pretty good collection of head strong personalities here too...

If you are just using it for basic navigation the terrain really dont change much. If you are using all the other functions and you are getting your airport info etc off the GPS then you may want it updated. I dont think I have updated my 295 is 6 yrs or so, but I only use it for ETA info etc. I still pull out my sectionals for airport info if I am going into a strange one.

    Updating Garmin 196
Have been looking for a used Garmin 196 and have seen several advertized. Most I think need software updates. About how often are updates needed on those and how old is too old for your last update?
