Great thread. Heres my problem on my C HH:

I have the original single leaf and it's toast.

Calls and email to Airdale are going unanswered.

I need to upgrade my leaf spring. Can anyone direct me to a source? I'm not interested in a spendy solution but a simple upgrade to the leaf spring assy (hopefully making it safer and less loop prone) and retain my solid wheel Maule.

    Thanks,
    Paul

Seemed high to me for a used 5 - and the M5 sounded a little cheap - maybe engine needs help?
My plane fund keeps me in the poverty birds!

Andy no worries on the post. Thanks for taking the time to join. It's nice to have the vendors themselves here to avoid second hand information and confusion.

Hey fellas  --  I have a new grip for the stick  --  the Ruger ended up being a little "fatter" around the head, so I've decided to switch to this grip for the stick but will still use the AR15 over on the throttle quadrant.  Feels even better than the AR15 -- enough room to accomodate 2 push buttons and a hat switch.  Added a base to the grip for a hand hold as recommended by a friend.  I appreciate the feedback and any references.

And thanks very much to C5Engineer for the original post  --  If this reply sounds too much like an ad (which I guess it is), please let me know and I will remove and repost where advised  --  have not seen any vendor forum here.

    Thank you!

    too funny :)
Two Hill Billies walk into a restaurant and while having lunch, they talked about their moonshine operation,
Suddenly a woman sitting at a nearby table who was eating a sandwich begins to cough,
after a minute or so it becomes real obvious that she is in distress,
one of the hill billies looks at her and ask's " can ya swallar?" the woman shakes her head no,  then he ask's  "kin ya breathe?"
the woman shakes her head no as she is beginning to turn blue
the Hill billie walks over to the woman , lift's her dress, yanks down her drawer's and quickly gives her right butt cheek a lick with his tongue
the woman is so shocked that she has a violent spasm  and the obstruction flies out of her mouth as she begins to breathe again the
hill billie walks slowly back to his table and sits down,,his partner says " ya know I heerd of that thar hind lick maneuver,..but I aint niver seen nobody do it!

Great design.  I'm sure it will work well for that.  Quite a few notches (7) for the flaps, though?

IMO in order to use a "gated" flap control you need a separate trim system.  I'm adding an electric trim tab to mine.  Does your model V have the jack screw h-stab or do you have a trim tab?

Larry ,..it took me about 30 minutes to make this out of 5052 and some hard wood,I was going to use it for a flap control ,..it has a spring inside of the neck you squeeze the T bars together to adjust

It's worth what ever the market will bear.

    A IV with a 912 is worth $35-40k.
A V or VI is an easy $40-60 depending.
A VII or SS is $60-75.

Fair or not.  That's what the market is right now.  Sorry.

There are a million easy reasons why these are worth more than a bigger, fatter, $ertified plane.

The rubber fuel lines could be the fuel flow problem.  Mill spec was what all kitfox kits came with back then.  Its good for Avgas only.  Car gas eventually causes it to swell inside.

Some builders put a valve in the vent line.  Their theory is that it needs to be open only to vent the bubble out of the header tank when first filling it.  When the header is full they shut the vent line valve.

The wing tank is vented from the tube top of the tank cap so any gravity or fuel pump suction in the system will draw through the main fuel line from the bottom of the fuel tank.  If the header vent is open the theory is the flow in the main line will be less.  Their procedure if they run a tank dry or the tank un ports and the header runs dry, they shut the header vent line valve so the fuel pump can create suction in the main fuel line from header tank to wing tank and start the fuel flowing again.

As you probably have found in the service bulletins, the factory position on fuel systems is no valves or filters in the fuel lines from wing tank to header tank unless its a nose tank you can see the fuel level in.  http://www.kitfoxaircraft.com/support/service_bulletins/sb29.htm

There is a fuel line (rubber) that leaves the fuel tank on a 90 degree fitting, it enters the cabin where there is a clear glass filter, it then mates to another short piece of rubber fuel line before going through the fuel flow meter.  From here it mates to an aluminum line w/ blue anodized AN fittings.  Then the line splits into the manifold between the 2 header tanks behind the seat.

From the right side header tank a rubber VENT line runs along the fuel supply line, halfway up it meets a ball valve.  From there is continues in a rubber line back into the upper portion of the wing tank.  (atleast it looks that way)

I'm not sure why there is a ball valve installed in the vent line but there is for some reason.

The IV fox fuselage must be a foot longer than the Avid MK IV.

Does the Fox call for a vent for the header tanks?

Yes, the wing leading edge is the datum.

What type are the black rubber fuel lines between the wing tank and header?  If they are Mil spec they will swell shut if they ever had alcohol through them.

By the way, a Kitfox must have a header tank.  It keeps the engine running if the wing tank unports during a turn.

I've owned a Maule M4C, and two Kitfoxes - The Maule is the true "Heavy-Fast-Hauler", but you're going to pay more as long as you own it. And, you need to find a longer sandbar than the Kitfox can take off from.
I cant fly a Maule now because I am flying on my driver's license instead of a medical.
Cant believe the KF5 is worth $55K - Sounds like someone is looking for a sucker - But guess this depends on engine, condition, your finances, et. - You can buy Kitfoxes and Avids a whole lot cheaper than that, and they are cheaper to own, and more fun to fly, IMO.
