Dusty - I have to tell you, All three of the manufacturers of this style "bush" gear have had failures resulting in substantial fuselage damage.  Lowell at Highwing has told me they stopped making this gear due to this problem.  Now if it is working well for you in the type of flying you do, great.  More power to you.

I can say, without exception, that if you land hard or hit something during rollout the spring will bottom out and when it does, something has to give.  That something is usually the longeron truss.

Bottom line is if you choose to fly the bush with this gear, be careful.

I have the highwing bush gear.It works well, seems to have plenty of travel and is well made. Highwing gear uses a spreader bar to share the load ,this is a must have . @Akflyer hit the nail on the head regarding forward placement of the wheels ,further back would be better.A kitfox on smooth tyres can be landed with the wheels locked on grass no problem, but it takes a lot of effort to keep the tail up even at forward cg.

Small, small world, ain't it!?! That's too cool! Yeh, I've found the older I get and the more jalapeño's I eat, the closer I can get to hovering in the "study"!â—

I just finished setting mine,  I clamped a string on the top of the spar ends, at the middle I have 2/3/4"  I found that I liked the looks of that best.

No lithium. Odessey 625 in the ole gal. I'm going to run it through the Rotax regulator so I shouldn't over charge it.

I question why the Aerovee TBI don't work on 2-strokes same as Rotec - you are sucking same air and gas as a 4-stroke - I have Injection books that I have never read -

if your running an lead acid battery you should be good. I wouldn't dare do it with a lithium without a good regulator ha they burn fast

    Wind generator
So the ole Rotax stator quit charging on me so I did a quick Internet search for a wind generator. .. seems the only commercial one is 9 pounds and 750 bones. Another search showed a guy that made one from an 12 volt starter for rc engines. Since I only have a half dozen or so of them laying around I made one as well. Today I played with props on it and settled on a 9x5 prop on it Wichita gives me 14.6 volts at cruise. I just had it hooked up to a volt meter so if the weather is good tomorrow I will hook it to the battery and see how many amps it will charge at. At any rate, looks like I can charge the battery now for less than 30 bucks in parts.

Now that's a sweet little 503! but kind of pricey, not that rotax and bing are cheap to buy from, you would probably have that in 1 bing carb too, new that is.

    Joey,
Would really like to see some photos of your TK struts. Did you go with 4" or 6" stroke? Also please consider Leonard's suggestion of a horizontal tube between the forward gear attach points.

I have them on my Quad city challenger, I dont think they would be a good match for these planes. the challenger uses a 1.25 or 1.50 inch lift strut

You will need to reinforce your longeron section there and the section across the front of the seat, I think. Others can give you more info - I like the steel plates welded in better than the plywood glued in. Larger and thicker longerons would be better too.

Hey Bryce... funny thing, yesterday while sitting in my study room contemplating the intelligence of the jalapeño poppers from the night before I was looking through my stack of reading material and come across an article by mr. J.T.Graham. has a pic of you in the avid in the article nice write up about the PB fly in that your a cofounder of. Sweetness, it made me head down to the hangar n dust off a foamie and do a little hover session in the front yard!

Those are kick ass! We had 3 of down at the probe wrote this year, they were a blast! It's amazing what you can do with that airplane even with full flaps out, it just doesn't make any sense, but it flies great!

5% finished - 5% beer! I probably need to send you some Service bulletins on elevators, which aint big enough - and reinforcement of rudder pedal uprights - maybe others. The vertical and rudder are about a foot too short for that engine, IMO.

BTW: Kitfox has a modification kit for the flaperon controls to give differential deflexion and better turns, if you are interested download the catalog.
