I have some clear plastic, maybe about 20 mil thickness. I cut some pieces of it about 6" x 24" and laid them over the finishing tapes that needed to be ironed down. Useing the plastic, the iron didn't stick to the poly brush but the heat transferred thru the plastic. Used 3or4 pieces of plastic, by the time I ironed the last piece of plastic down, the first piece was cooled and would pop off the surface of the fabric. Worked way better than ironing right onto the fabric. Jim Chuk

Make me an offer on all the parts. I don't have the fund to rebuild and have run into a road block on ever getting it back in the air. I may post up more information on that later but for now I don't feel like talking about it.

Iron down all the pinked edges if they are raised, or they will show through the final color.

You forgot to add health care to your nonsense ! pesky private company's , do some research and find out who has forced the most small company's to close their doors. I will give you a clue ( because you don't have one) Obama , rember the famous quote when your boy was claiming that the government built this country? Is the fog lifting yet ? If not you can vote for Hillary next time.

The edges come out cleaner with a little bit of heat. If you don't already have one get a model airplane iron they come in really handy for the tight spots. The 21st century one is really nice.

Yes I do the aileron linkage and the part the control sticks hook to are already out of the plane. The mixer is still in the fuse. It does not have the F7A bell cranks.

Finishing Tapes, any ironing other than shaping?
I am ready to install the finishing tapes on the ribs of my tail feathers (using the Stewart System).

After gluing (2" tapes), is there anything else required?  Any final ironing over the tapes or maybe just in local spots for a better lay down?

Dan try lifting the tail of the plane so the air that is trapped in the back of the motor can escape. You may have to raise and lower the tail a few time to get all the air out of the system. Hope this helps

I've got one that I took out of my MK-IV. I would guess that it would be pretty compact to ship, but I'd have to take a look at it again. Do you need the pushrods too?

sometimes I have to burp my cooling system after draining it. You get a bubble that just won't come out.Take the radiator cap off and lift the tail as high as you can. might help or not, but it doesn't cost any thing.

Well, here she is.  Mangy no more.  (But the name has stuck forever!)

For the record, I had the airframe, h-stab, elevator and both door frames media blasted and powder coated.  The total on the invoice with tax was $260.

Yes.  Incredible.  See the link above to call for your own appointment to have it done.

I would guess that this would reduce your roll rate at least some and I don't think you would notice much difference with short flaps if they are separated from the wing like an Avid. Your best bet would be to work out some sort of flapperon mixer but it should be tested very carefully. The Avids can have issues with control reversal if one of the flapperons were to stall with too much angle.

    Merlin GT
Hi,  I am curious about resolving a problem with my Merlin GT.  IT does not have a flap control.  I was thinking about splitting the ailerons a couple bays on the inboard side and making those flaps.  The ailerons are currently set up just like an avid with the exception that the mixer control is simpler because there are no flaps.  I also considered getting an avid MIXER control and putting it in the merlin.

    Thanks

I would guess it had to do with the large and very hot exhaust expansions for the 2 stroke engines which the 4 strokes don't have. My hangar mate did fiberglass work to add a motorcycle radiator just below and behind the propeller on his Avid. It works well for him but requires a good size opening. Not sure if that would work on a Kitfox but it might be an option to look at.

Rotax 582 getting air in the cooling system
    Hi all,

I have recently installed a used 582 to replace the 532 that was on my Avid. I have had cooling problems since. The last several test runs of the engine on the ground with cowling off show it running fine and temps on the gauge are in the safe range but when I shut the engine down I get a long stream of air bubbles from the steam return line from the water pump back to the coolant header tank/cap. I have tried carefully removing all air from the system when filling it. I have run it briefly with the cap off and topped off with coolant to make sure any extra trapped air could escape. I never had these issues with the 532 which used the same radiator. I just changed the cylinder o-rings in the head in case I had a compression leak there into the water jacket but that made no difference. The rotary valve oil remains clean and at a constant level so no leaks there. There were no visible cracks in the cylinder head. Has the 582 ever had issues with cracks? I don't have any external leaks. Is there anything else that could be bringing air into my cooling system?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am grounded until I can figure this out.

    Thanks,
    Dan LaFon

You shouldn't have any nose heavy problem with the engine that close to the firewall.  Heres a picture of a Model IV for comparison.

Nice looking cowling.  Just a heads-up, key an eye on the routing for the PTO side oil injection line.  My cross over plug wire was routed too tight and pinched off the line.  Luckily caught before engine start.

Tried putting glue on the tube that gets the overall wrap and that worked fine.  All set now.
