What a cutie! She's lucky to have a papa pilot to take her on big adventures.

That's awesome. I can't wait to have a flying Avid so I can take my kids in something other than a 172. She probably doesn't hurt the takeoff performance much

5 yr olds first off airport adventure
Took my daughter to one of my favorite local mountain strips on Sunday. It's 30 mins away each way. Figured it was a good test run away from the airport in the Avid. She had a blast and so did I.

Red Wing work boots.  Worth every penny for standing on concrete for hours on end.  I've never found better.

I've got one in my Kitfox as a heater core.  If I open the valve to it and run the fans without taping the main radiator on the belly I will drop my coolant temps 50-75º depending on the OAT.

Thanks guys, I actually did get started on rib stitching today. Finished the three ribs behind the tank, and put the rest of the reinforcing tape on the top of the wing. Boy my feet hurt from being on that concrete floor. Got to try different shoes tomorrow. Jim Chuk

Have you looked at places like west marine?  They make different sized boots for outboard engine controls etc. that may work for you.

Look at the varied sizes of "Earls Coolers" that are available through Summit Racing. These plate style heat exchangers are very efficient at transferring heat from liquid to air.

    Aerocet 1100 rear rubber boot
just wondering if anyone knows where to get a new rubber grommet/boot for the water rudder linkage at the back of the floats. Aerocet doesn't have these & Whipline's are too big (need 2" outside diameter, approx). Has anyone replaced theirs with something else because they couldn't find one? Thnx for any info - much appreciated.

Suberavid on here had some aluminum rads made for his that are in cowl like the MKIV rads.  They seem to work great for him and every time I see the plane he has part of the rads taped off so he can get the engine to come up to temp.

    Soob radiator setup
Well I've got the rad and exhaust off to redo on my EA81. The exhaust I'll be using 1-3/4" stainless straight pipes with a crossover tube behind oil pan.
The radiator I have no clue. The avid came with a small but heavy rad mounted underneath like a Mack truck. I also have a vw rabbit rad but am wondering about other options? I'd like to mount under the belly slanted as many do but am curious if other types of rads may work? Or if there's a specific size to aim for?
    Thanks
    Matt

Well, this is encouraging. No fuel gauge for this tank so that won't be a problem. It just has the plastic tubing.

I forgot to grab some photos, but spent the day yesterday painting. No not the fuselage, all the other little bits and pieces that needed it.

Brackets, clamps, control sticks, rudder peddles, etc. I also did the grove gear. I don't like polishing and it was already in a DA sanded finish...

I'm a solo act at work this week, so I doubt anything will get done until next weekend, now.

Might have a scrap of fabric in one of these pics Ed.   I know they were on the floor-still are for that matter.  I tightened the fabric up to 250 degrees before I quit this evening.   (first shrinking) If I don't loaf around to much tomorrow, I might be putting on finish tapes before the day is over. I bought a roll of the 2 mil 8'4" wide plastic today, when I get the tapes on, I'll wrap the wing up to keep it clean and then start the next wing.  Maybe if I worked more than a few hours a day, I might get more done as well.  Had company yesterday and today, and there is then much more sitting and talking than working.  Jim Chuk

PS,  Just after I posted this message, I remembered I'm ribstiching these wings.  Finish tapes will come later.  Well maybe ribstiching before the day is over.........

been off line for a while, looks like I need to get caught up

I've heard arguments both ways so to keep it simple and let the final user do what they want via tweeking the axles I set all my gears straight ahead. In fact when I weld them on I have a piece of tubing going from inside one across and into the other while they are bolted into a jig that holds the legs just as they would be when installed into the plane. I will see if I have any pictures of doing this. then just for kicks they are cross squared before welding. As for my personal gear I have just left it square and have never had any issues with it.

I think there were more problems with the metal 12-gallon tanks than the 6-gallon tanks.

I had a 6gal metal right wing tank in my model 3 that did not leak anywhere other than the fuel gauge. That was an easy fix.
