Wait... we actually have some appreciable and effective air campaigns going on now, I thought that was against the O-doctrine? Last I heard we we conducting only about a dozen sorties a day in Iraq and Syria, hardly enough to scratch the surface? Maybe that U.S. trained Iraqi force cut-'n-run in Ramadi forced a reassessment by our cockroach-in-chief. I certainly hope so.

We have had our first landing here at my home, Gospel Lake International.

I've been working on the runway as shown before and my buddy Paul dropped in with his mark IV this morning!

    Checking in
Wow the forum has been busy lately! THANK ALL OF YOU who contribute to coversation daily here. Thought I would check in and say hi. I am on another all expenses paid trip to an undisclosed location in SW Asia. At least this time I am directly contributing to dropping warheads on foreheads by air refueling fighters everyday. Long days but very rewarding and on track to break the 5000 hr mark this trip. See ya in a couple months!

PS Randy keep the hunting pics coming because this place is the most scenic depressing place on the planet!!

I read that Avid replaced the 1 1/4" spring with a 1 1/2" spring on the MkIV.

My original two leaf spring top leaf is not full length.  The manual instructions are to take care to round the aft end to a kind of point and smooth that end real good so it can not cause a fracture point on the full length bottom spring.  I have made some hard...actually quite a few real hard when I was learning to fly my kitfox...landings.  Our paved runway here is cracked and real rough, rough enough that it says "Rough" in the facilities directory and it hasn't broke.  But...I keep hearing stories about those springs breaking and causing rudder and other damage so this year I replaced it with the two full length leaves off the three leaf spring that Kitfox sells.

Thanks tcj,That's what I was worried about. I know you cant use a pencil on exhausts because it can cause cracking.
Is MDS (Molybdenum Disulfide) OK on aluminum? I found Nylon impregnated with that stuff too -
From what I read it sounds harmless, and better than plain nylon?
Guessing unless I get a big "No-No" from someone, that is what I will buy.

My kitfox manual says to NOT use a pencil to mark on aluminum spars because it can cause corrosion.

I just checked the RAM site - They will sell you a new 115hp Multi-point Fuel-injected EA-81 for $10K, or a 160hp supercharged one for $5K more - plus reduction unit for $4K or 5K. I only found the flanges for the manifold.

Here is a link to the carb on Revmaster's site. http://revmasteraviation.com/?p=206The fittings on the manifold connect to the two smaller fitting on the side of the water tank in the last picture. Jim Chuk

    Tailwheel Springs
I have seen a few pics where I notice much beefier tailwheel springs than I have on my Model III.  Mine are the original two leaf version.

Any concerns with these smaller springs that I should be aware of?

    Hey Rick,

I get down to Hood River, OR once or twice a year since my brother, sister and I still have the place where we grew up there.  We should get together when I am down there next.  Mark and I have met for coffee a couple of times to catch up on flying and building stuff.  I will be going down at the end of Oct through first part of Nov for a hunt.  Send me a PM with your phone # and I will give you mine and hopefully we will be able to meet and swap some stories.

Danny flew with them partly hanging out the window of his cub but we still had to cut the skull in half.  you can see them hanging out the window in the picture of the cub on the tarmac.  I tied a set on my struts once and it flew fine but cut my cruise by about 7 mph.

And remember to switch it off before you step over it, Hahaha

I know we are very fortunate to be able to fly in such a great place.  I hope many of you guys get a chance to fly in Alaska sometime and be sure to look me up.  I sure enjoyed getting to visit and fly with Bandit when he came up but it was too short a time.  Mark, when are you coming back up?

I was talking to a guy on the phone yesterday, and he asked me to send him an email.
    I said, I'm a Dinosaur on computers at 74, and I don't send emails.
He said, I'm 81, and laughed - But he took my order without an email anyway.

    Have I screwed up?
I spent a good amount of time on answering the questions you generously provided regarding identifying my FLYER and sent a couple of new pictures... hit post and everything disappeared... I thought to the forum... now I'm not so sure because I can't find it or any replies...  did I send it to Avid Fox Flyers or an I now proudly being displayed on "like to meet a sexy grandma in your neighborhood"....  Oh jeeze... I hope my message is floating around here somewhere not there... where ever there is..
