Thanks for the info TJay.  Did you know the guy in the trike that shows up low and left of you at about 4:45 in the video?  Lost him in the trees somehow when you turned.  ;-)  Jim Chuk

Hey Jim mine only has 2 wires, I would say touch the red to positive and black to negative if nothing happens tie the white and red together. the way I read it is the red and black power up the gauge and white can measure the power at a specific location. Say you want to know how much power is being fed to your landing lights only, that's my best guess.

We have an airport and hanger shortage here too - Several of them sold out when STL got the TCA.  The city folks at my last airport have been trying for years to sell it for a strip mall - We now have to go about 60 miles or more to HOPE to get on the hanger list.  Cheaper to just fold wings and trailer it 25 miles each way.

I bought one of those gauges, and it has a black wire, a red wire and a white wire in the back.  How is that supposed to be hooked up?  It didn't come with any instructions.  Jim Chuk

I put in some more quality sawsall time trimming the upper area of the engine mount to make room for a center mounted radiator & one more round of tape tube mock up.  What's the general vibe (pun intended) on radiator mounting rigid or rubber isolation mounted?  I've seen both in practice on other rotax powred aircraft.

  10. Avid90 added a post in a topic Lift Strut Threaded Rod Ends

'Just a little bit more about those AN 490 rod ends:  Yes, the material used is 4130 steel, heat treated to 125.000 psi strength.  But that doesn't tell you the whole story..  To see what the threaded rod will carry, you have to multiply the 125,000 lb/sq in tensile strength by the smallest area (in square inches) of the section taking the load.  In the case of a 1/4 by 28 thread, the minor diameter of the threaded section.
In many cases a fitting or part will carry the intended load but may also have to be "over designed" to take into consideration the sometime rough handling that the part may be exposed to.  A 5/16 inch threaded section is considerably more damage tolerant than a 1/4 inch one.
Remember that those strut ends are a single load path primary structure.  Handle with care.

I didn't.  We might opt for the quick build option when the time comes.  It will be cost effective for me to pick it up, I'm only 6 hours away.

That is a damn good price if they are coming through kitfox. hell if your gonna spend that you may as well go for the $10000 stol wing. Did you ask Mr. John what they would charge you to ship the wings My guess is it would be around $600+

"Tail Low - Way to Go"  That was what my instructor always told me for landings - He didn't mean that the tail had to be on the ground - Just Low, so you don't get any more weight forward - and you can land a little faster and be in control for x-winds.

You will find that wheelies are not the way to go in one of these planes in a cross wind.  Getting a locked tailwheel on the ground asap is the best way to maintain control.
The main wing will be able to fly long after the tail is ineffective to control it.  In order to keep these planes "safe" they were designed with small tail surfaces and control throws which keeps breaking stalls and spins to a minimum.  This also limits drastically their ability to maintain control in a wheel landing scenario.
I've landed in some pretty scary cross winds with my plane.  Things I shouldn't have done.  But always in 3-point.  Always.

Think about it this way:  You saw the plane's behavior in a tail up taxi, now throw a cross wind into that mix.  What's going to happen?

No sir Just a cheap voltage gauge. I put that there because my battery is between my legs, gives me a heads up before it gonna go up in flames. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-Voltmeter-DC-4-5-30V-Digital-Blue-LED-Car-Voltage-Volt-Panel-Meter-Gauge-/271734188653?hash=item3f449eaa6d:m:mNMs_a-YLE0vpoZqCw3yhgw&vxp=mtr

I would try Simple Green first. I put it in spray bottle straight and use it to clean my boat motors (two strokes). If that doesn't cut it....IF I used gas, it would be 100LL.

Great write up JJ. I really appreciate it. It's hard to tell, but I do pull power to idle in this vid right about when I'm finishing up turn dw to base  (last  couple of landings) and always at least during final.
I'm away from the plane while at work. I'm looking forward to this weekend where I can put all this great input into practice!
it will feel good to know how big I can fly the pattern and still make the field engine at idle.

LOL!!! My skin is pretty thick. Yea, I figure that is the reason for the gear widening and the extended fuse mod. One down, one to go. "I think I have it down"... last words...
Seriously, thanks for the advice. I stick to grass which is way more forgiving. I just like a wheel landing better in a cross wind. And the strip behind my house is 45 and 315. So there is always a cross wind.
