    Food For Thought
    Food For Thought

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for being in the country illegally ...you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If the only school curriculum allowed to explain how we got here is evolution, but the government stops a $15 million construction project to keep a rare spider from evolving to extinction ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If you have to show identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor or check out a library book, but not to vote who runs the government ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If the government wants to ban stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines with more than ten rounds, but gives 20 F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If, in the largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not a 24-ounce soda because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman can be stripped searched by the TSA but a woman in a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head searched ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more ...you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If a seven year old boy can be thrown out of school for saying his teacher’s "cute," but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly acceptable ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.
If children are forcibly removed from parents who discipline them with spankings while children of addicts are left in filth and drug infested “homesâ€... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more government intrusion, while not working is rewarded with EBT cards, WIC checks, Medicaid, subsidized housing and free cell phones ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If the government's plan for getting people back to work is to incentivize NOT working with 99 weeks of unemployment checks and no requirement to prove they applied but can’t find work ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If being stripped of the ability to defend yourself makes you more "safe" according to the government ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

    Phone repair
A Kansas farm wife called the local phone company to report her telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few occasions, when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone rang.

The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this psychic dog or senile lady. He climbed a telephone pole, hooked in his test set, and dialed the subscriber's house.

The phone didn't ring right away, but then the dog moaned and the telephone began to ring.

Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found:

1 . The dog was tied to the telephone system's ground wire with a steel chain and collar.

    2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.

    3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number was called.

4.. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate.

    5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to ring.

Which demonstrates that some problems CAN be fixed by pissing and moaning.
    Thought you'd like to know.

  8. akflyerbob added a post in a topic WHAT'S A 618?

The 618 has larger cylinders and also has varable exhaust valves.
Its true, the 618 was not a reliable as a 582 if it was ran like a 582.
Thay had to be ran with different jets per cyl (carb).
I think they were found most common on the Avid Catalina.
I have one but have never ran it. Just got a tractor exhaust for it
this summer. Its supposed to fit a Kitfox round cowl.

  10. akflyerbob added a post in a topic DC-9 WAS THAT THE SUPER CONSTELLATION?

Arguably the most graceful and beautiful airliner ever built, the Lockheed Constellation celebrated its 60th birthday in 2003. Conceived by Howard Hughes in the late 1930’s, the Constellation represented the ultimate in airline performance and luxury during the 1950’s with 856 being built for commercial and military customers. Quickly displaced from frontline service by jet airliners in the 1960’s, there are at least fifty-five “survivors†of the mass scrappings of the 1960’s and 70’s, with only C-121C VH-EAG currently airworthy.

And were powered by Curtiss Wright R-3350

When I started working in the Cook inlet in 1969, Western Airlines was still flying two of them
and I was lucky enough to get to ride on them back and forth to Anchorage.

On my mod 1 Fox the windshield/skylight overlaps the
root rib when the wings are out.
If the root rib had two cap strips the fus rib would
also have to have two cap strips to raise the skylight.

There might be a consern if it were the rear mount
I have a picture of a gusset being welded under the
rear fus attachment because some have cracked/broken
because of trailering without the wing support.
I think Snapp sent me the pic

    Natural Born Citizens
    Subject: Natural Born Citizens

I don't know whether to laugh or cry...

You, who worry about Democrats versus Republicans -- relax, here is
    our real problem.

In a Purdue University classroom, they were discussing the
qualifications to be President of the United States ... It was pretty
simple. The candidate must be a natural born citizen of at least 35
    years of age.

However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how unfair
was the requirement to be a natural born citizen. In short, her
opinion was that this requirement prevented many capable individuals
    from becoming president.

The class was taking it in and letting her rant, and not many jaws
hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument by stating, "What
makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country
    than one born by C-section?"

Yep, these are the same kinds of 18-year-olds that are now voting in
our elections! They breed, and they walk among US...

Lord -- we need more help than we thought we did!

My experience with flat metal stock is that it can be twisted
easly when cold. Now I'm not talking North Slope or Alaska cold.
I guess I should say room temp. Usually the mill scale will flake off
within the twisted area. A little wire brushing and paint.
If the two tools are to close it will tare but spaced right
you will have a nice looking twist.

    Robert
I have the same type latch on my mod 1.
I used 3/16 rod, instead of flat stock, bent out a little so you could grasp it even with gloves.
You should be able to twist yours like you describe if you can remove or
get behind it with the tool.

    Ed
The hydraulic opener is the way to go for keeping the doors open
especially if you fly with the door open. I have them, as others do up here and we all
would install them again. I think I ordered mine from Granger and made the brackets.

  20. akflyerbob added a post in a topic 582 guys how long are your muffler standoffs?

I used the red/orange high temp cilicone "in" each joint, w/springs,
let setup before running the motor.
This motor has +- 60 hrs and is as clean as the day we put it on.
    No fumes or black gupe
I didn't know about the clamps or might have used them.

Welcome to the site...most thought it was a good buy
A lot of us saw the plane on craigslist and everyone had commented on the metalized wings
Do you know how long the 582 has been setting?
There are others in Anchorage that can help with project, you are in Anchorage??
Are the whole wings metal or just the leading edge?
The underside of the wing is "undercambered" for greater STOL preformance.

    Private part Died
    MY PRIVATE PART DIED

An old man, Mr. Wallace, was living in a nursing home.

One day he appeared to be very sad and depressed.

Nurse Tracy asked him if there was anything wrong.

'Yes, Nurse Tracy,' said Mr. Wallace.

'My Private Part died today, and I am very sad.'

Knowing her patients were a little forgetful and sometimes a little crazy, she replied, 'Oh, I'm so sorry, Mr. Wallace. Please accept my condolences.'

The following day, Mr. Wallace was walking down the hall with his Private Part hanging out of his pajamas.

He met Nurse Tracy. 'Mr. Wallace,' she said, 'You shouldn't be walking down the hall like that.

Please put your Private Part back inside your pajamas.'

'But, Nurse Tracy I can't,' replied Mr. Wallace. 'I told you yesterday that my Private Part died.'

'Yes,' said Nurse Tracy, 'you did tell me that, but why is it hanging out of your pajamas?'

'Well,' he replied, 'Today is the viewing.'
