WING FOLD CLEARENCE?

Doug,

IN SOME OF YOUR COMMENTS EARLIER - Regarding adding capstrips to clear the wing tank - You said that adding too much at the rear would cause "wing fold interference" - can you explain this?

I thought that when the wings were folded, the root rib capstrip just butted against the rear crossover tube. I have seen where a notch was cut in the capstrip to complete folding - but nothing on the height or thickness of the capstrip interferring. Have I missed something?

On my mod 1 Fox the windshield/skylight overlaps the

root rib when the wings are out.

If the root rib had two cap strips the fus rib would

also have to have two cap strips to raise the skylight.

Or you could just raise up the butt ribs to compensate for the difference

If the HH wing is built to spec using the Avid ribs, interference between the top and bottom (built-up) capstrips of the root rib aft of the rear spar and the tubes just below Mk-IV rear fuse carry thru will result. Normal rib spacing for flaperon hinges on the HH wing is 35.5", and leaving 35" between the root and #4 rib centers is sufficient to remedy the interference. If the root hinge is slightly out, you can carve away end of flaperon to move hinge outboard somewhat.
