  1. I am new to the AVID group and was curious where the best placement would be for the intercomm system that the headphones plug into.

My second question is a wingtip strobe system. Currently the plane has 1 1/4" round strobe housing on the end of each wing tip. The depth of the housing is 1 1/2". There are zenon tubes installed. The CPS strobe driver is so old that it has quit working. Any suggestions for a replacement that can use the three wires already in the wing tip housing?

    Thanks.

  2. Thanks for the replys. Just found out my tach will not work. I just ordered an RV-1 Tach. I also have the Tiny Tach as a back up.

    Thanks

  3. If you are using the Westac #2AT8A-2-6, there is a yellow wire on the back that needs to be cut if reading about 3 time actual rpm.

    Russ.

    Hi Russ,

I have the Westach 2AT8A-2 688 tach. It is hooked to a ducatti dual ignition on a rotax 582. There is a single grey wire from engine through firewall into cock pit. There is a #2 pin and a #5 pin. I do not see a yellow wire. Only the black ground wire from tach to frame ground and the grey wire from magneto housing are going to the tach. I am puzzled about how to make it work correctly.

    THanks

    Jeff

  4. I can't confirm the number but many people are used to Ft/Lbs not IN/Lbs. 240 IN/Lbs is only 20 ft/Lbs maybe this is why it seems so high.

Excellent, I knew I had my info crossed somewhere. Thank you.

  5. Need advice on spark plug torque. I noticed in the 582 manual that it calls for 240 in/lb for the spark plugs. That seems awfully high. Is that setting correct?

    Thanks

  6. Need help with a tachometer issue. I have the rotax 582. The gray wiring coming from the stator is for the tachometer. Hooked it up and the needle flys over to 8000 rpm when the motor is running at 2000 rpm. Any thought on this? Do I need a resistor in the line?

    Thanks

  7. I have an AVID Heavy Hauler with the Rotax 582. Purchased the plane with two new headsets. It did not come with an intercom. Do any of you have a recommendation for an intercom that I can plug the headsets into and talk with a passenger or over the radio and is voice activated.

A link would be great. Not looking for top of the line. Just something that works good.

    Thanks

  8. I have been using the Artic Sparrow mixture control for years. Try to get some pictures this weekend.

How do I adjust them for the initial startup. Clockwise / Counterclockwise how many turns etc.

    Thanks for you help

  9. Wondering if anyone has any photos and descriptions on finishing out the turn cables for the Mike Jacober in flight adjustable carbs. I have them installed on the carbs, just looking for ideas to finish on the panel. What kind of dials should i use and where can I get them etc.

    Thanks

  10. I have the rotax 582 with dual bings and they have the Mike Jacober adjustable needles on them. They are installed on the carb but I am looking for options to finish them on the panel. What should I use for dials, etc. I would assume the dial must be a clicking one so the position cannot change during flight unless I make the adjustment. Can someone help me with ideas and pictures of how they finished it out. I have the AVID Heavy Hauler.

    Thanks

    Jeff

  11. Welcome to the site...most thought it was a good buy

A lot of us saw the plane on craigslist and everyone had commented on the metalized wings

Do you know how long the 582 has been setting?

There are others in Anchorage that can help with project, you are in Anchorage??

Are the whole wings metal or just the leading edge?

The underside of the wing is "undercambered" for greater STOL preformance.

The 582 has sat for 15 years with being fogged every year and hand rotated. No sign of corrision with the naked eye and none of the hoses show any sign of dry rot. That being said, it would be easy enough to crack it open and replace all the internal and external seals. The front leading edge of the wings are the only areas that are metalized. I live in Wasilla. I haft to admit that I am somewhat stumped on the electrical but I will probably be able to figure it out after research. Any input on that issue would be very helpful. The attached picture shows the strip for tying in electrical. This is where I am lost. I am assuming its like wiring a house. The main hot comes in and then all the accessories tie to the strip. The ground is tied to the frame. Also attached a picture of the engine. Looks good on the outside. I hope it is on the inside.

    Thanks

    Jeff

  12. Hi everyone,

I am an Alaska resident and new to the forum and have transitioned from a quicksilver mx to an AVID Heavy Hauler.

Can someone give me a brief run down on this plane i.e. its flight characteristics, etc. Does this plane require annual inspections? I am getting certified sport pilot and then working on the certificate of air worthiness.

    Thanks for your input.
