hershey bar wingsGood Afternoon,
I just damaged my fiberglass wing tip on the original Avid C wing. I want to square the wing tips and install an air dam. Wondering if you guys know of any pre-made kits for that? How should I go about this? Also what is the maximum safe length I can extend from existing wing spar.
Thanks

Yes that's my next plan. I just tow it to the airport 3 miles away at 35 mph. However I do intend to haul it to Valdez so the gust locks are a good idea.

Yes that's my next step. Also need to put something smooth under and in front of wheels because the grating will wear a hole in tire. Do you have a picture of your strap setup?

Avid TrailerI put my hand to first big welding job. Turned out pretty good. Bought a Jon boat trailer with 1000 lb capacity at Sportsmans warehouse and customized to fit my Avid. Pretty simple to do but time consuming.

Those are very rare at this point. You may need to get one manufactured.

26" Ultralight BushwheelMorning Friends,
I am considering purchasing the 26" ultralight bushwheel for my Avid C. they weigh 9.5 lbs less (each tire) than my existing 26" Alaskan bushwheel. So my total weight savings would be 19 lbs. Do any of you have feedback on this particular tire? Below is a link with more information about tire.

It seems like financial powers are consolidating for something. Definitely need to be watchful to protect our freedom before we become like the European union.

I have an Avid C with the 912 ULS. The best option is to use the Rotax ring mount. The mount from firewall to ring mount will need to be custom made. Leni on this forum can make a mount for or somebody local. Kitfox has the isolator mount. In all your probably looking a 2k or more. So In summary there are three different mounts involved. 1. the mount from firewall to isolator mount. 2. the isolator mount that comes from Kitfox and 3. the ring mount for engine. You'll want to hold mount 1 as close to firewall as possible because if its to long you will get CG issues with the short avid c fuselage But you want it long enough so the air filters clear the firewall.
Best of Luck.

Lake George Ice Cave TripLast week has been fantastic flying weather. Virtuallly calm all over Mat-su Valley. Took advantage and flew three trips to lake George. During the summer, part of the glacier broke off and floated in the lake. Winter came and froze it in place and waaa laaa an ice cave.

Take off AngleRandy Tyler got his new rotax 912 uls with Zipper kit 115hp installed. Shortened his takeoff distance to a quarter of what it was. I have the same engine setup in my AVID C. Below are some pictures that show take off angle. I can hold the AVID C at that angle with 50 mph climb until my nerves give up. Randys take off climb is greatly improved. I think he dropped 64 lbs by going with Rotax instead of Subaru.

2018 7.0 Alaska Earthquake Damage Vine RoadI took the Avid for a stroll on Sunday to video tape the Vine road damage. My house was hit hard with nothing left on shelves. Amazingly stuff was flying over my airplane in garage but it was not damaged. Fast forward to 1:38 to see vine road damage.

Behind the power curveI never thought a engine could break off so easy until I watched this video. Fast forward to 3:30. Actually if you look carefully the whole firewall and dash came out. Wow.

Another thing to consider when installing heat is a defrost fan. The hoses that run into the cabin can run right under the dash. I mounted another cpu fan to blow warm air from under dash to windshield.

LOL that's a pretty good savings. My next project is to improve the lame flap handle in the picture that is hard to find because its so small. Got any ideas? Pictures?

I finished the installation of the heater core and cpu fan. Total cost might be $60.00 bucks. With outside temp at 24 degrees and water temp at 174 the heater core puts out lots of heat. Will make for nicer flying this winter.

I just laid the cpu fan on top of the radiator and zip tied all the way around. Its a great solution until I customize something.

I’m curious how to install a heater core. Do I tee off the radiator line and then tee back in or does all the radiator fluid route through the radiator and then to engine?
