The Rib spacing is 18inches with the leading edge metalized about 1/3 of the way back. Maybe that is sufficient but I don't know.

    Heavy Hauler Wings
I am looking for true Mark 4 wings if anyone has some for sale.  My Avid is a model C that had the Mark IV struts and other items added but my wings are still the model C.
    Thanks

    Rotax 912 Oil Cooler
In researching the rotax 912 I noticed that some have an oil cooler and some do not.  Is the oil cooler a mandatory thing or is it based on air flow to engine?  Does it matter where the oil RESIVOUR (not the cooler) is mounted.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Ed,
Does your 912 have a oil cooler on it?

Knik River / Glacier and Lake George
Had a great trip up the Knik river on Sunday.  Enjoy the videos.  On the last video watch lower right portion of screen at 20 seconds in to see mountain sheep.

Looks great Leni.  In my research I saw a lot of 912 mounts in different aircraft that had steep angles just like that.  Good work.  Your IVO prop awaits.  LOL.

Have any of you squared off the end of AVID wings with any success?  Has it increased STOL performance?  If yes do you have pictures and ideas where to get parts?

Yep,  I am pickup up a hose today.  That was a close call.  Amazing how a little oversight can lead to disaster.

    Near Death Experience
I filled my tanks with gas last night and went flying to Knik Glacier.  Beautiful flight.  Towed my plane home and pulled in the garage like normal.  Went to bed with good memories.  However, I woke up this morning and there was a smell of gas all over the house.  I immediately checked the garage and their was a puddle of gas on the garage floor underneath one wing.
What happened?  Well, the angle of the wing when parked and folded back and the amount of gas in the wing was enough to block the vent and gas was pushed out of the tank and onto the garage floor.  The boiler was kicking on like normal in the garage to heat the house.  Had enough fumes been present the roof could have been blown off the garage.
I now know that if I have to much fuel in my tanks the tail needs to be elevated while parked so the tank can breath.  If the wings are not folded back for towing this is not and issue.

The other key ingredient is low air pressure in tire.  A bush wheel pumped up to tight defeats the purpose.

Very well said Leni and that is not just a bunch of snake oil.

    Rotax 582 Grey Head
I will  have a rotax 582 grey head for sell in about two weeks.  About 120 original hours on it.  Comes with in flight adjustable carbs, muffler, avid model c engine mount, cheek radiators.  Basically everything firewall forward. One exhaust bolt is oversized because original got stripped.  This engine was run inverted.  My asking price is $3,000.
    Will post pictures here tomorrow.

My plan is to get the tubing how it needs to be and then tack weld.  Then I will send to professional to finish welding.  As in Leni.

    4130 Tubing Tool
    Howdy folks,
I am going to try my hand and making my own 4130 tubing for engine mount.  I am wondering what type of tool do I need to bend and form the ends of 4130 in preparation for welding to bushings that bolt to aircraft.
    Thanks

Okay thanks for clarification.  I got that story from Kitfox.

I did not notice any performance issues except that rocks are absorbed a lot better which is easier on landing gear.  Even if you lost a little performance the advantage you gain in off airport takeoff and landings is worth it.

This is an original cargo pod made by AVID.  I was willing to take it to a local fiberglass shop and let them copy but not sure of cost effectiveness.  Its a nice pod that holds a lot of stuff.
I heard Bretts wife died a year ago and he has basically stopped doing anything with AVID.  Our only option is to have this made by a fiberglass shop.

I have always had 100% effectiveness when I just dump the flaps as soon as tires touch.  I have had a couple bouncy landings and on the second bounce dumping the flaps has always worked for me.

Very Good.  Thanks for posting.  Was you able to use the Mark IV cowling as is?  Also can I use the cheek radiators or would that create airflow issues to the motor.

Can you also take a cowling picture?  And a muffler picture as well.  If you have time.

    Thanks for your help.
