It is amazing no doubt.  I bet it will be a big hit at any watermelon/pumpkin drop event also!
They've had sessions on it at Oshkosh for the last several years.   A friend of his does the sessions, he doesn't like talking about himself.
I attended one session several years ago, and they talked about him trying to spin the aluminum engine cowlings.  He didn't want to use composite since the originals were aluminum.  Made a rig out of an old tractor, used the rear axle as the spin lathe.  He finally gave up after multiple (expensive - aluminum ain't cheap in that size) attempts.  The radius on the 1/3 scale was just too tight, and they'd split when he was about 3/4 of the way done.

I don't think this has been mentioned here before.  Last word is he is ready for a DAR inspection.  Amazing project!

Great shots!  I took almost 1,000 while I was there.  Still sifting through them to get an album of the good ones.  Digital photography is great because you can just take the picture without worrying about running out of film, but then you have to go through them all later.
The weather was perfect all week this year.  First time I've done the pits, and they were very cool!
Here is one I particularly like of the Blue Angels.  'Sport' mode on the camera lets me hold down the shutter button and it takes 4 pictures a second for a few seconds.  No way to get this kind of shot by timing it.

What connects to these?  That might help the search.

My google-fu is not sufficient today to find the answer.  I've seen those before, but I haven't found the right words for google to locate them.

If your Altimeter and VSI are working correctly, then the issue isn't the static source - even if they are all just open under the panel, they are all using the same static source.  Either your pitot tube is poorly placed, or the instrument itself is just bad.

Precious Metal had a booth there, selling merchandise and raising money to get it back in the air.  Until Voodoo gets some real competition, the unlimited class is kind of boring.  The best racing of the week was the T-6 Gold race.  The winning pass was made between the last pylon on the turn and the finish line.  .015 seconds between 1st and 2nd place.

I missed that one, a friend had showed up and we were walking to the pits when it happened.  While I like the classes that start on the runway, they are more likely to have that kind of accident than the ones that form up in the air.

Is your altimeter also just open to the underside of the panel?  How about the VSI?  If so, are they accurate?  If they are accurate, then the problem isn't the static source, it is either the pitot, or the gauge is just bad.

Interestingly, the Piper Cherokee series all have the Pitot under the rear section of the wing, just about where this one is.  Undisturbed, pressurized air can be found in strange places on different airframes.

The second tube would not be static, pointing into the wind like that it would be pressurized just like the pitot.  The builder may have doubled it up for strength, or the second tube may be a vent for the fuel tank.   Either way it is odd, and the second tube in such close proximity to the pitot could be generating some unexpected pressure variances.

Just got back from the Reno Air races.  Made me feel better about my tailwheel skills.  One ground loop in the Biplane class, and the one taildragger in the sport class bounced all the way down the runway.

The problem with MoGas is you never know what is in it.  Even without ethanol, they can dump any other old thing they have laying around they want to get rid of in the mix as long as it meets the emission standards when they are done.  Buying at the same location isn't a guarantee either, they don't control the mixing before delivery.  It may be fine for years, and then the distributor has some Tuolene that needs to be gotten rid of - into the tank it goes.

    Hangar visitor today
My office is in the back of my hangar.  Walked out of the office this morning to go get more coffe, and stretched out right in front of the door was a nice big snake.  Scared the bejeezus out of me.  After I calmed down enough I verified it was the black snake I'd seen outside a few times, so nothing to worry about.  I killed a pygmy rattlesnake a month or so ago in the yard, so that wasn't my first thought.  Got the broom and swept him out the hangar door, cleaned up the mess on the floor (pretty sure it was spilled coffee).
Fortunately it was me, not my wife.  If it had been my wife, I'd either be talking to the undertaker or a realtor .  Guess I better get some more weatherstripping on the hangar door.

I prefer the foam insulation for water pipes - it is already slit, just slide it on.

Watch 'Flying the Feathered Edge', about of Bob Hoover (The greatest pilot that ever (and will ever) lived).  He probably had more engines quit than any other pilot, ever.  Imagine test flying planes in North Africa in WWII assembled from the shipping crates by Arab workers who couldn't read........

Agreed, but most of those shots were fresh water lakes and 'rivers' .  Florida fresh water isn't all that fresh for the most part.
