  1. Tailwheel spring has a 3/16" bolt on each side going through that tab with the holes in it.  A piece of strap is under the spring and the bolts go through it.    The windshield is sort of cut to fit.  If I could find the windshield I had in the Kitfox 1, I could trace out a pattern.  Been a few yrs though and it's probably gone now.  Might want to consider a better supported engine I would say.  There is a Kitfox 1 build manual in the files and forms section of this forum.  Feel free to ask questions.  JImChuk

  2. Bummer.  He seemed like a good guy in the experiences I had with him.  This getting old and what comes with it stinks.  Condolences to his friends and family.  JImChuk

  3. Interesting to see the performance changes.  Glad you like the changes.  Have you seen my laser prop adjuster?  I figure in 20' one degree will move the laser 4" on the wall.  I usually get within 1/8".  Funny how you can actually see the laser move as you tighten.  If you tighten one bolt first, it twists the blade one way, tighten other bolt first and it twists the other way. 4. I just looked at your pictures again.  I see it's 1.02 meters wide, not 1.2, so it's about 40" wide.  I'm not sure what you are asking for with the distance between the leading edge pin and the spar pin.  The distance from the front wing attachment point to the rear attachment point is 27 1/2" center to center.  Looks like yours was close to that.  JImChuk

  5. If you look at page 4-67, and 4-69, there are some possible solutions.    If the tube is cracked because it is all rusted away though, better to replace it I would think.   JImChuk

  6. Seems like an odd place for a crack.  Any idea how it came about?  Just a wild guess, but was it being trailered tail first without gust locks on the elevator?  Can't imagine what the elevator controls look like from one end to the other if that is what caused it.... JImChuk

  7. Most things should be the same from the C model to the MK IV.  Stuff like radiator mounting is probably different, but the radiator way back inside the cowl wasn't very effective either from what I've read.  Actually, the cheek radiators have to be sealed pretty good to the cowl or they run a bit warm as well.  Probably going with the Kitfox style belly radiator is a better option.

  8. I'm not sure you will be able to get any help from anyone in the USA, those who have tried to revive Avid aircraft have not been very successful it seems.   If you have the skills and patience, the parts you are missing could be built.  Tailfeathers and lift struts are some of the larger steel parts that come to mind.  The wings are basicly aluminum tubes with stiffening inserts and wood ribs that are made from plywood.  I would imagine you can source the materials you will need to make up these parts in your area.  Also, perhaps you can find a wrecked Avid some where in Europe and get a jump start on a lot of the things you will need.  Sorry I can't be more encouraging, just telling it as I see it.  JImChuk

  9. If you go E- AB, I would look hard at an HKS engine.  About a month ago, I watched a youtube video from a trike dealer having issues with Polini engines.  I hope he is just one guy and not a  trend.  The UL world  really needs a lightweight engine.  JImChuk

  10. I saw that one on barnstormers, and thought, lets see, I have a 503, and then I said no way, to many projects now.  Hope it works out for you.  A buddy of mine up here got a skyraider with an HKS on it last spring, and he likes it a lot.   JImChuk

  11. Avid serial numbers ran sequentially,  and 948 falls within the numbers of C model Avids.  At about 1000, they became MK IV models.  B models are about up to 250.  The serial number is not stamped on the plane.  Jerry Matison lives in western Mn.  Alexandria I think or close to it.  I don't have his contact info though.  JImChuk

  12. Nobody currently is supplying kits.  There never were plans available to the public for the Avid Flyers either.  Are you trying to find a serial number for registration purposes?  If that is the case, you as the builder of the kit can make up your own serial number.  Do you know what model it was (A,B, C, or MK IV)?   Jerry Matison who was an owner of Avid at one point has a listing of who the original kits were sold to.  Of course then you would need the serial number or original owner.   JImChuk

  13. Leading edge of wing is the datum.  Manual shows leveling the rib just inboard of the right wing lift strut attachment.  If you don't have a manual, there is one posted in files and forms sections of this site.  JImChuk

  14. Not really, still have a couple or three waiting in the wings.  If I get this one done, I'll get it out of my hangar.... :-)
