You are right about that Larry the Q2 ran a 54" inch prop and flew 160mph but even with flavored lipstick it still was a pig. A fast one but... with the Jabiru it will do 200 and cruises at 175 mph.

Looks like you have some good helpers there, with four of you working on it you should have it flying in no time. I wonder if they were planning on the extended speed wing. One thing I would do if I had a replay would be to reduce the washout to an inch or less. There is a lot of discussion about that on this site. That would be if you are planning on rebuilding the wings.

I didn't have cooling issues with the Revmaster I had in my Q2. I built cooling plenums as T Jay mentioned and built a plenum for the oil cooler also. The big problem with the VW's is the weight to HP ratio. 65 horse weighted 200 lbs with the light weight starter. The Jabiru 3300 that I put in its place weighs under 180 and puts out an honest 100 HP rated at 120. I would not even think of putting another VW in an airplane. Well maybe in a bomb bay for dummy bombing practice

Fantastic Barry! Double check the washout for that heavy wing, that is what we find most often with the Super Cubs.

I would build a stand to get the tail up (or a ramp). You will want something for a stand to ge the weight off of the tail spring any way. We haul ours with the fuselage level and the weight off the spring.

The question I have is what happens if a repair is necessary. PolyFiber is simple to repair. It would seem to me that would not be the case but I have no knowledge of making a fabric patch onto latex paint.

For both my Avid and my friends KF. IV with 912 uls we had to cut off the back if the starter casting that had a bolt hole. To remove the starter will require removal of the engine from the firewall. I will see if I can get pictures of my buddy's KF today but I may not be able to, I think that it is still masked for some painting operations and he is in Israel for an other week so it maybe a while before I can get some pictures.

It does look like my MK IV mount except for the radiator mount is slightly different.

Those are the same style of mount that I used on my gear for the cabane, works great and welding required. Much stronger than the HighWing setup which requires no welding.
