It might also have something to do with US GovCorp printing billions in the last few years diluting the value of the dollar. I don't know.

I think it might be pretty heavy requiring weight in the tail to bring it into balance. Useful load will be compromised.

Ron Turner and I are hoping to fly there from Washington State this year. Last time we flew in was pre Covid.

Yes it was interesting. I'm not as familiar with the kitfox variants as the Avids, but I found the loss of control difference between the two types puzzling. The Avids all have a ton of dihedral and washout. I haven't seen as many kitfoxes, but I don't remember as much dihedral and washout on kitfoxes. If the kitfox design doesn't have as much of wither of those characteristics, do you think that could contribute to the greater number of loss of control incidents?

Make your own. I know I have posted how to do it on here somewhere. It costs almost nothing to build. I don't think I spent a thing. Just used stuff out of the junk box. I'll see if I can find the thread and link to it. I flew behind my home made mixture control for hundreds and hundreds of hours and several folks made my version and had very good results.

Something not related to structure but plan for a lot of through fabric access points in the wings and fuselage (back by the tailwheel) so it is easy to access tough to get to fasteners and inspect where you need to.

Clever. What is that jack originally for? What is its original purpose and where do you get them?

I think you are going to love the 27 inch Dessers. I have the 22 850s and they are amazing. SO much softer, smoother and lighter that the standard 850 ribbed. Not even close! And they are holding up incredibly well! The price is right too.

  16. ChrisBolkan added a post in a topic Looking for a Kitfox nose wheel kit

i bought a rans S-6 nosewheel and fit it to my Fat Avid. It turned out real well (I think) and allows an 800 size tire. It took a bit of DIY to make it work but all in all it was well worth the effort. I have many hundreds of hours on it without a single problem. here is a link to give you the idea.

AVEO position lights. Work good no complaints. I've had them a long time. There might be less expensive options that are just as good.
ACK-04 ELT. A big old school sized box but the least expensive 406 I could find and it has GPS input if you want to do that.

That looks like it will be a real ripper! That's a lot of radiator, which I assume comes needing to get rid of a lot of heat, which I assume comes from a lot of horsepower. :-)

What is the difference between advanced and basic ultralight? How would it affect your flying? I am not familiar with Transport Canada rules.

Yeah that 1/2 "seat" really wasn't a seat, but it was a great baggage area!

A friend and I finished this little guy last year. I flew it for about 40 hours before we sold it. I did not want to sell but external circumstances sort of forced us to. It was one of those 1 1/2 place ridge runners and it was a joy to fly. Looks almost identical to your bird. We did a pull start 503 and even though it didn't meet UL weight, I never feared flying it anywhere even if FAA would have been around. All they would have had to do was watch me struggle to pull start it and I doubt there would have been a conversation even started about if it met weight. :-)
It could takeoff in half the distance of my fat Avid and land in the same. And the stall speed was REALLY low! If I did anything resembling a STOL landing it would hit tailwheel first.

  24. ChrisBolkan added a post in a topic IVO Prop IFA brush mount??

When I had the IVO IFA prop on my plane I used a little device that was in some of our products at work so it didn't cost me anything and it worked fantastic. It was called a Mercotac mercury wetted rotary slipring. It fit right into the hollow prop shaft. Worth looking at. Very reliable.

There are also other manufacturers of similar devices

  25. ChrisBolkan added a post in a topic Cabin Heater Info

My MKIV had the heater pick off on the other radiator. The hose came right by the air cleaners and straight into the cockpit. That allowed it to avoid being routed by the exhaust, which could be bad with exhaust possibly damaging the tubing and a more complex routing, but probably good it terms of minimal heat loss.
